Other day to day things (frequently used tags etc)
First and foremost: The block button is my buddy and I’ll use it as needed. I'm patient with most things but I have intolerance for hate groups (Terfs/swerfs/radfems, other bigot types)
Secondly: for social issues I will aim to share only non-graphic (as in brutalized bodies etc) forms of support (inasmuch as is possible).
Not because I don’t believe those images matter but because I would rather post ways people can help to avoid the despair spiral that leads to inaction.
On a lighter? note, thirdly: as far as shipping, I’m honestly not invested in shipping beyond passive enjoyment. You’re welcome to chat about it but I probably won’t have much to add 😅

i know things are hella grim in the nsfw/kink art circles especially in the last year --
but I'm hearing there's a NSFW-friendly ko-fi alternative built on atproto that's actively in the works, and being vetted by lawyers right now. as torrent-princess (OP) says, you should be able to swap out payment processors while keeping your account intact. this matters since even if stripe removes support, you'll still have a shop and all of your links intact. (ATproto is an infrastructure that bsky is built on, but is far bigger than bsky with far more opportunities.)
additionally, the Free Speech Coalition is working on a credit union specifically for adult work (including kink art) - here's the link so you can add your interest & support. Since this will be built by sex workers, there'll be far less risk of being debanked for spurious and puritanical reasons.
on a domain TLD level, there's an initiative here for a .furry domain built from the ground up by seasoned furries; it's unclear whether they'll support NSFW, but it's yet another promising turn of events for a group that's been similarly affected by censorship.
there are friends and allies out there helping to build a working parallel infrastructure. keep being vocal, keep supporting these initiatives when it's possible, and keep supporting your nsfw/kink artists. ♥

i love that the series ultimately said yes roxas is his own person but also i do love thinking about the ways in which he is in fact sora, the other side of sora. and i love the whole ventus twist so much but i do wish ultimately roxas’ design was a blend between sora and ventus and not just straight up ventus because it kind of throws a lot of what is incredible about roxas (ie that he developed his own individuality even while kind of looking like sora still) into the woodchipper
or like. that twist would be fine if they’d expand on ventus’ and roxas’ relationship. they barely got to interact in kh3. if we got some words from ventus about some vague thing he remembered feeling while he was asleep- like, he could feel it when sora’s heart was unlocked, if he could feel that death and that split between sora and roxas, if he had any sort of consciousness or even agency at that moment, if part of him had any hand in roxas’ creation, if roxas could bond with him and express some weird form of gratitude- then i’d think it was awesomesauce. oh well there’s still time for him to drop that lore bomb!

how difficult must terra’s ordinary life be post-kh3 on so many levels. soooo many people vaguely recognize his body as that of a man that hurt them across multiple different personas. most people had never known the real him before. to them he is terranort, apprentice xehanort, ansem, xemnas, before he is terra. his body probably does not function at full power after having been possessed and warped and broken again and again. the stress of all that probably has given him more than a few gray hairs of his own, only making him look more like xehanort. i love the hc that he has scars over his mouth and maybe a few other places to make him even more frightening to certain people. it’s probably incredibly difficult for him to forge and maintain friendships, get a job if careers do exist in this universe, earn trust in general. he’s haunted by the shadows of so many people. and these are just the external problems this is before even factoring in all his own personal trauma and grief and self hatred. if other people look at him and their first reflex is to hate and fear him he probably completely understands and even agrees with it. man.
Y’all know that I’m into ancient Roman history and I do a lot of research on it but even though I should be used to it by now sometimes I read an anecdote about how an individual slave was treated and I’m hit with the realization that like a third of the population was living like that and I just need to put my head in my hands for a second
Emperor Hadrian randomly stabbed a slave in the eye in a fit of rage and he was supposedly unusually sympathetic to slaves.
There’s other instances of people randomly punching slaves that they didn’t even know because they got in their way or something. This was just normal behavior.
And slaves didn’t rebel en masse because if even one slave committed an act of violent rebellion it was common practice to kill every slave and former slave in the household.
People only took notice for posterity when these mass executions got into the hundreds of people. One of the few recorded for the history books is of over 400 people being killed because one guy stabbed his enslaver.
Like how many people throughout history were beaten to death because some rich asshole was angry and there was no legal or social consequences for doing so? We don’t know.
When you study ancient history you’re reminded that slavery has never once been kind or justified. It just takes on different forms of evil in every time and place that it infects.
Chattel slavery is an incredibly cruel and dehumanizing system.
So is every other kind of slavery.
This doesn’t diminish the awfulness of what people were forced to endure under chattel slavery.
I just think it’s useful to remember that cruelty is complicated and diverse and just because a cruel system is different doesn’t make it right by any means.
Roman slavery operated differently from slavery in the antebellum American south which operated differently from slavery in the Ottoman Empire which operated differently from modern prisoner chain gangs.
All of these are still slavery. They’re all cruel and unacceptable. Their diversity does not matter. Their willing participants have still committed the crime of taking away the self ownership and personhood of another human being.
My dad is a high school physics teacher, and every year he does an incredibly valuable and deeply uncomfortable exercise with his students to drive home why “the Industrial Revolution” was called that:
In the unit about physical work, he points out that work is, at its core, a measurement of labor, and that labor which isn’t done by a paid laborer had another name before the rise of automation: slavery. He has his students quantify the amount of physical work that you might expect out of a human slave, and then sets them to work calculating what that means for their own standard of living. If you wanted to live like you currently do in the ancient world, how many slaves would you need? Calculate your washing machine in slaves. Calculate your dishwasher in slaves. Calculate your refrigerator and your TV and your HVAC in slaves.
And then he asks them to think about those calculations every time they read about any form of wealth at any point in history prior to the Industrial Revolution, and to ask themselves how many slaves went into creating and supporting that wealth. Sometimes it’s chattel slavery, and sometimes it’s serfs, and sometimes it’s forced marriages, or debt bondage, or penal labor… but scratch the surface of wealth and civilization and leisure time throughout history, and you inevitably find slavery hiding underneath. Sometimes (often) you still find slavery hiding underneath, even in the modern day – but until automation, it’s a virtual guarantee about any culture with a high standard of living at all.
