Protect yourself during earthquakes!
If possible, DROP! COVER! HOLD ON!
Using cane, DROP! COVER! HOLD ON!
Using walker, LOCK! COVER! HOLD ON!
Using wheelchair LOCK! COVER! HOLD ON!
Oh, this is good! Very good! Must look into this organization more to see what else they might have.
Earthquake Country Alliance is fantastic! I use this image all the time in my classes as an example of efficacy and accessibility in disaster info. They helped create the Great Shakeout drill as well!
HI!!! As a person who lives in a country shaked by big earthquakes every few years, we have been receiving information on how to properly take cover. The MOST important thing they remind us is that DO NOT GO UNDER FURNITURE! You are supposed to create a "triangle of life"
The reason behind this is that
a) You don't know if the furniture is strong enough to protect you if something falls onto it
b) you can easily be trapped between a wall and something that falls in front of you
So do "Drop, Cover, Hold On" (and cover your neck and head with your hands to protect your upper spine!!) but avoid going UNDER things!!!
This method will also give you more places to take cover, even when the earthquake hits when you're asleep!
Another very important thing is -if you live in an earthquake zone- to keep an emergency earthquake bag within your reach in your room. Most important things are obviously water and food that wouldn't go bad quickly but a whistle, torches, flashlight, first-aid kit, a powerbank, some money and even a copy of your ID can be life changing to have with you at times of need.
Be safe!!
