Until death, all defeat is psychological.
people are being willfully ignorant and xenophobic towards argentines, harassing them and hiding behind the myth perpetuated by the usa that it’s a white country so here i am again trying to bring in actual sources to dispute this claim. nevermind that trying to bring in nuance to a discussion on the internet is like talking to a wall
erika edwards is an academic, the only person from usa that i’ve seen discuss this subject with the respect and the sensibility it deserves. the matter of race in argentina is just as complex as it is anywhere else and deserves to be treated as such.
Something the article fails to mention, I guess due to no ill-intended ignorance, when they address Maradona is that Maradona was, in fact, an Afro-descendant whose Afroargentine side of the family has ties all the way back to the XIX century. Luiz Maradona was an Afroargentine who fought in the independence wars against Spain, got his freedom, and later relocated to the province of Corrientes.
Listen to Afroargentines, especially when they speak about their historical erasure. I’d recommend you all to follow DIAFAR, Red Federal Afroargentina, Agrupación Xangó and Asociación Misibamba, among many other Afroargentine organizations and activists on social media.
I add as a curiosity that the line between racial categories has been blurred at least since the time of the Bourbon monarchy. At the end of the 18th century, the monarchy approved a Real cédula called “gracias al sacar” which established monetary compensation (a payment, so to speak) so that freed black people could acquire the status of “white” and thus access some of the privileges and benefits that this position entailed (it’s important to note that in colonial times, at least here, “white”, “black” or “indian” were legal categories rather than racial, so it was not uncommon to get social promotion, although this was limited and doesn’t mean that acts of discrimination didn’t occur).
In addition to this, we must think that the invisibility of the Afro-descendant population and the indigenous or indigenous descendant population was not only due to State action, but also for self-perception issues, due to the generational trauma that leads to the fact that there are still people who deny their identity to try to fit in in a “white” Argentina (I recognize myself as a descendant of indigenous people, half of my family is morocha, and even so, sometimes I have some problems with my identity). I also dare to question the idea that all immigrants who arrived in the first decades of the 20th century were white. I don’t know if there is any research on this topic but I think that it isn’t too crazy to think about the possibility that the racial spectrum of immigrants could be broader than is thought
“bits to use in everyday conversations”
You can’t Abstain your way to a Better World.
The Burger still gets made, even if you go Vegan. If you don’t buy it, it just winds up in the trash. If you want to do something meaningful about waste, you need legislation: It must become a crime to waste food in those ways.
If you care about Animal Cruelty in Factory Farms, you need to get legislation passed. It must become a crime to mistreat animals in those ways, and when malfeasances occurs, the onus of responsibility for those crimes must fall upon wealthy shoulders. That, also, requires legislation. It requires regulations, and regulators.
The largest source of Microplastics is wear and tear on automobile tires. It doesn’t matter what brand of shampoo you buy. It doesn’t matter which company you support with your dollar. The issue of Public Transit is too large-scale to be handled at anything less than the municipal level.
It’s not enough to just not participate in society
If you want the world to Change, you must leverage the mechanisms of political power.
You need Government.

there's art inside me trying to get out
The only thing that has ever improved my mental health in any measurable capacity is making more friends. That's literally it
The way isolation plays on your psyche, and the way that a solid support system can improve your life is insane. One of the worst things that we did as a society is removing most avenues to find this kind of thing, and the over reliance on the idea of getting better on your own
!!!
I swear that THIS time we will find the immutable and objective way to categorize human beings I swear this time it is actually supported by empirical data and it's not a tool to replicate power structures I swear bro just one more IQ test I swear just let me create one more box one more box to check please
speechless. the pose. the expression. this should be a painting.
i'm no good at painting sorry. i have excessive line work instead

the misunderstood but still cold-blooded devil, and the beautiful but alien and uncanny angel, timeless players in a deadly game as old as life itself
hi, a lot of you need a perspective reset
the average human lifespan globally is 70+ years
taking the threshold of adulthood as 18, you are likely to spend at least 52 years as a fully grown adult
at the age of 30 you have lived less than one quarter of your adult life (12/52 years)
'middle age' is typically considered to be between 45-65
it is extremely common to switch careers, start new relationships, emigrate, go to college for the first or second time, or make other life-changing decisions in middle age
it's wild that I even have to spell it out, but older adults (60+) still have social lives and hobbies and interests.
you can still date when you get old. you can still fuck. you can still learn new skills, be fashionable, be competitive. you can still gossip, you can still travel, you can still read. you can still transition. you can still come out.
young doesn't mean peaked. you're inexperienced in your 20s! you're still learning and practicing! you're developing social skills and muscle memory that will last decades!
there are a million things to do in the world, and they don't vanish overnight because an imaginary number gets too big
it is an incredibly joyous thing to look around at your friends as you're heading into your 40s and everyone is so much more themselves than they were when you were all scared and fragile 20-somethings. we're different genders now, we've gotten out of bad relationships and into good ones, we worked shit jobs and got better ones, we all cook a lot better and we eat better too, we casually pull off the kind of art we could only dream of as kids, we've figured out who we are and we do it on purpose now. the self-harm scars have all faded away and we complain about our bad backs and picky digestions instead.
we still lose at trivia real bad.

Yeah break ups suck but have you ever been giving a passionate speech about how cool humans are and the anthropological evidence we have to support that the most important human trait is community building and that if people engaged in history in a more humanitarian way then they would perhaps realize that caring about each other is how a society thrives only to be interrupted and realize the people you thought were listening weren't even paying attention?
