One of many things that’s striking me about the final episode of Calamity is the quick acceptance of loss and the immediate shift in priorities shortly after everyone was reunited and back on their feet. In the prior three episodes, the Ring of Brass had been fighting under the impression that they would win. They gradually became more and more aware that things were Bad, but they believed enough in their ability to stop the bad things that they still indulged in their own personal quests and allowed themselves to be selfishly motivated. Whatever malicious plots were in motion, the Ring of Brass would stop them and then continue about their lives.

But from the moment Asmodeus left the Arboreal Calix’s chamber, less than a minute after the tree exploded, winning was off the table and they knew it. There was no final push they could make to stop the Calamity in the last minute. That possibility was simply gone. The group, with all their hubris and selfishness, had to come to terms with that so quickly because there was simply no time for further reflection, but they still managed to accept the new reality so readily.

Every hit point lost or gained, every spell cast or weapon swung, every word, every breath past that point was with the knowledge that the deaths couldn’t be stopped, only lessened. But that didn’t stop Laerryn from giving up her life’s work, Nydas from throwing away his wealth, Zerxus from sacrificing his humanity, Patia from letting go of her legacy, Loquatius from turning down his chance to escape, or Cerrit from returning to a fight he didn’t want and couldn’t win. They gave up everything and fought so damn hard with everything they had just to try and save whatever lives they could, knowing that that was all they could do, but also knowing that it was worth it.

God, it destroyed me watching these characters who had been sipping champagne, full of hubris only hours/episodes ago, desperately struggling against impossible odds for every single second they could buy… in order to do nothing more than give life a fighting chance. How they saw their ambitions and futures torn away in an instant and still decided to keep fighting for the sake of everyone else. I had thought the emotions would come from the characters fighting against a fate I knew they couldn’t escape, but it hits so much harder when they know they can’t escape it either, and yet keep on fighting.

At the end of the day one third of Exandria’s population lived because a group of people history will never know gave their lives to say “this may be all we can do, but we won’t allow you to take hope.”

I still can't get over jinx purring. I never knew how happy he was or how much he loves me. he's been purring since I got home, every time I say hi to him. my husband says he's always purring like that, I just never heard it before

yes!! when we came home and I called him downstairs for some food I heard him leap off the bed I think and his excited patters down the stairs

went down to the village river and it was so nice!! the river is pretty low rn because of the lack of rain but when it rains lots I want to go back and see it go fast and hear it

popped my hearing aid on when I woke up and just listened to my husband breathe next to me. he's here, I get to wake up next to my best friend every day. he's alive. he loves me.

then he started snoring very loudly and it was even worse with the amplified sound

when you light a cigarette and you hear a faint crackle as the dried leaves catch fire. very good.

I was hanging my washing outside and I shook out a pillowcase to hang it up and it made a very good whoosh sound with a slightly sharp crack!

im outside in my garden with my easel doing some painting and I was drawing on the easel and it makes a scratchy noise?! the pencil was scratching! it makes a very good sound indeed!!
