Ironically, I feel like the more I get ensconced and feminist theory the less interested I am in hyperbolic "men are trash" rhetoric, not because I've become less convinced that men created and uphold the patriarchy but because I think it's juvenile and useless for changing the material conditions of women

If I tried to go over every single point as to why I don't like this rhetoric, we would be here all day, but one that I keep getting stuck on is the concept of heterosexual or bisexual great feminist thinkers loving and being in relationships with men and how some people treat it like an accusation. Like, at that point we have lost the plot. If we truly want a society without patriarchy, that means that women who are attracted to men can, should, and will be able to seek healthy, fulfilling relationships with the people they are attracted to. Wanting women to be emotionally nourished in their romantic and sexual relationships is a feminist principle, and we should be happy for women who find themselves in these relationships even under patriarchy so long as they don't lose sight of the greater struggle for liberation.

For the record, this extends to (contemporary) radical feminist rhetoric as well. Exterminatory discussions of men are completely myopic at best and fatally pessimistic at worst. There is no possibility of a human society where no men exist, so to suggest that anyone assigned male at birth is doomed to be a violent oppressor (apart from being transmisogynistic) leaves us with virtually no solution to improving the conditions women live under. This kind of fatalism serves absolutely no one, it's just pointless nihilism where we all bang our heads against the wall about how unfair things are while doing nothing to improve it.

what really fucks me up about watching the truman show in 2025 is how it's not fictional. truman is fictional, but the truman show isn't.

there's thousands of truman shows. you find them on youtube, tiktok, instagram... family and mommy vloggers, sad beige moms and now the trend of neglectful moms showing the "reality" of parenting. all of them using their kids for entertainment. each child their own truman; living a life manufactured by their parents, a camera watching their every moment, broadcasted for the entire world to see.
