Y'all, this is not a HIPAA violation. The AI used by doctors in these situations is software intended for medical records keeping and not, like, them just plugging shit into ChatGPT.

HIPAA violations are a real and serious issue, and unfortunately one that patients need to be aware of and monitor for themselves. The medical system in most modern nations is a woefully creaking apparatus trying to keep up with a modern population that is tremendously larger than what it was designed to, and simply has not caught up enough to have the kind of consistent oversight that reliably catches violations as they happen.

But it's also something that medical professionals know about. Actually kind of a big deal that they avoid them, or if you're feeling cynical avoid being obvious enough to sue about them. So the chances that any medical facility went through multiple policy meetings to determine both that they would be using AI assistance for record keeping, and how to notify patients of this, without anyone thinking "oh hey this would be a tremendous HIPAA violation" being what they are, it seems reasonable to guess that the AI they are using is probably not one that would cause HIPAA violations, and therefor does not involve your doctor going to ChatGPT and saying "how do I fix this patient?"

I am pretty sure there is a direct line of descent from "AI is making people dumber, source; trust me I just know" to "clinics are advertising their HIPAA violations with fun little signs and I am the first person to notice that, ahead of an unknown but considerable number of medical professionals". Assume stupidity first, and work backwards from there.

Which, in a bleakly amusing way, results in a lot of people who do not think for a second about the likelihood that their clinic has a sign bragging about their HIPAA violations vs. any other circumstance possible.

i'd like to add that the shadow color isnt necessarily dictated entirely by the primary light source, but the bounce light! so for the example of a sunny environment, the reason the shadows are blue are because of the light from the blue sky reflects across the environment; but, if the character were to be under tree cover, the bounce light would be coming from the leaves and thus the shadow would look greener.

James Gurney is an absolute master and gives really good clarity on colour techniques. Yes, it is traditional paint focused, but the principles are the same. Yes it is informed by the environmental colour but as a painting technique it is achieved this way!

I would also suggest that in digital processing, rather than apply a regular colour layer at a mid opacity, try out the different types of layers, Eg. Screen or Multiply. This can give you at least a starting point to help direct your colour palette.

Layer Blend Modes are so so so important to working in digital art. There's a ton of math that goes into figuring out how the layers should blend together, which is why some of the modes you can pick are literally called Multiply, Add, Divide, and Difference (that's subtraction). The graphics software takes the color values of your base and blend layers and runs a calculation to get your resulting layer appearance. The ones that don't have specifically mathematical sounding names are still doing calculations, but they're more complicated (think linear Algebra and higher). Some of them, like dodge and burn, are named for actual photo editing techniques.

While it's not super important to know about the mathematical side of blend modes, I think it's worth knowing at least enough about how each of the categories of blend modes works and why they do what they do; if for no other reason than having a starting point when you start experimenting with them in your work.

Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University are conducting a research study on the sentiments and effects of generative AI in the labor market of visual arts. This study consists of an anonymous survey and potential for compensated interview (optional). It is open to participants from any country, but participants must be professional artists (see below for what qualifies).

This link at the bottom of this post is a short screener to ensure that you are a professional artist and prevent spam/brigading, hence the request for a portfolio. It is not the full study, that will be sent to you after verification. The submission request does not have to necessarily be a full portfolio website. They just need any kind of proof that you derive income from your art—resume, social media links, proof that you have sold commissions recently, profiles on employer websites, etc are all viable alternatives. You qualify as a professional artist for this study if you are over 18 and have made any amount of recent income from your art.

Again, you will receive an invite to the full survey AFTER your info is verified (this may take up to 2 business days, they have to sort through them manually). Make sure to leave your email, they can't send you the invite without it!

If you are concerned about data collection (valid), the info in the screener is used only for verification of professional status and sending the invite and will not be kept beyond that. The actual study survey itself is anonymous. I know the researchers (hence why I am posting this on their behalf) and have also already personally participated in the study.

a motor taxi driver was ran over and killed by the police in a demonstration last night. his name is Affan Kurniawan, and he was only 21. he was not a participant but a mere innocent bystander who was brutally driven over. cctvs in the streets are shut down as per today, leaving many in the dark of the situations in the streets, aside from social media postings -- of which there are concerns of gov't censorship as well. I’m so worried for those who are joining the protests today onwards as well as the implications this will bring in the future.
