Imma straighten things out right now:
PCOS is not an intersex disorder. PCOS does not give women intersex abnormalities.
Women who struggle with and suffer from intersex disorders are still women. They are not men, or lesser women.
Women who struggle and suffer from PCOS are still women. We are not men or lesser women.
But PCOS is not an intersex disorder, nor does having an intersex disorder or abnormality mean that you also have PCOS.
You cannot identify as intersex because you have PCOS, that isn't how these things work.
There is already so little research, attention, and information about PCOS in which us women have to work with when it comes to actually managing and addressing our symptoms. Spreading misinformation about PCOS being an intersex disorder helps no one.

I just read a comment where someone said that people who read SaB and shipped darklina weren’t reading critically and misunderstood that the book was a cautionary tale against abuse but were too stupid to see it 💀 interesting how this ‘critical’ reading of the text ignores the nuance presented in it with the treatment of grisha and their place in society as the ‘abused’ and focuses on the darklina relationship instead 👀
I definitely comes off like a misdirect and it's mostly the result of Leigh not bothering to build up a real antagonist for the series. She really could have done something with the King and Vasily, especially given how the Lantsov dynasty has been exploiting Grisha for centuries.
As for the idea that darklina shippers "read the book wrong", I have to cry laugh. Because having been a shipper since like 2014-ish (??), the fandom shipping Alina with the Darkling was very much a reaction borne out of disappointment and spite for the original series. People were so fucking pissed at how shitty Mal was in the books, how Alina lost her powers (despite other male characters shown to be more power-hungry than her not getting that fate), how Alina turned down Nikolai (??? HOW? WHY??? he was literally written to be a fairy tale prince), how Alina was weirdly not really all that interested in a geopolitical situation that was very relevant to her, her country, and the whole reason her parents died and she became an orphan in the first place.
There were a lot of aspects of the narrative, the character arcs, the conflict, the romance arc(s), the world-building that left a lot to be desired. So people latching onto Darklina just felt like another way to "fix" the series of its wasted potential.
The antis didn't really exist in the fandom until maybe like 2018/2019? The sheer IDEA of a Darkling anti would have been fucking hilarious prior to then. And it may have had something to do with Leigh changing her tune and retconning all her own writing decisions. The original Grisha trilogy was just bad, especially compared to Six of Crows. It was badly plotted, poorly planned, with frustrating characters and an anti-climatic ending. But it wasn't bad because of Darklina shippers, for fuck's sake ☠️It's like Leigh forgot how she used to bait and ship tease Darklina, even in the text of Ruin and Rising itself. She encouraged speculation of who Alina would end up with, reblogged Darklina fanart, wrote blog posts about the appeal of the bad boy, and then suddenly turned around and pretended like that was all fans "reading the book wrong" even though his character and his interactions with Alina were literally the only compelling thing that brought readers to the trilogy and fueled copious amounts of fanfic and engagement. After Darklina shippers, the next biggest shippers were Nikalina shippers (this is before canon paired him with Zoya). Shipping Mal and Alina unironically was kind of considered a fandom taboo ☠️

Fanfiction is becoming people’s primary form of entertainment right now because most media right now is so cheap, bland, recycled, and sponsored by people who love money more than the source material. Fanfiction is written for free by people who genuinely love what they’re writing about. That’s why it’s better. That’s why it’s more satisfying. Fanfiction is a home-cooked meal made for yourself and for your friends. Media today is junky fast food spoiled by too much grease and the knowledge that the people producing it are being criminally mistreated and underpaid.
also because in fanfiction, most of the time, the author is writing it not to tell some specialimportant, life changing message, but to simply make people happy, to make themselves happy. there is no obligation to have a huge shocking dramatic twist, or to be super complicated, or to have some sort of “moral.” fanfiction is primarily for enjoyment, written by people who are typically not getting paid for their work, by people who decided they wanted to spend time and write out more for these characters.
fanfiction is almost always made with the sole intent to be enjoyable to the readers, without any obligation to tell a true life, high stakes, morality tale.

i see the younglings post things like "are you still on tumblr at 30?" and "go take care of your kids instead of reading fics"
and i just feel sad
because you have a bunch of young people who are terrified of getting older.
they think age is going to change them, into something boring, something different, something grey.
and i just want to tell them, reassure them:
you will still be the same person.
isn't it wonderful?
you will love the things you love for so many years. you will find joy in the same things, decade after decade. you will feel the same inside, through all this time.
yes, the body will change. yes there's more responsibilities, less time, even less energy.
but there's no magical age where you stop enjoying that specific story, that specific game, that specific hobby.
but you know what also comes with age?
you have less fucks to give.
I turn 50 in July. I had this HUGE list of things I had to do, that I absolutely KNEW I had to be, before I turned 30, or I was a total failure. I didn't do any of those things, and it didn't matter. I was CONVINCED that by the time I was 40, my life was basically over. All the fun stuff I liked, all the music I liked, the games I liked to play, all of it was done for some reason, and I would be a Boring Adult. ALL OF THIS IS BULLSHIT. I am here to tell you that when you get older, it's fucking AWESOME. You don't put up with anyone's bullshit. You figure out who deserves your time and attention, and you have the fucking BEST TIME EVER with them. All the time. I still play video games. I still go to concerts. I do everything I can to see and validate and celebrate young people when they come into my life, because I want an entire generation to know that the lies media and advertising tells you about life basically ending at 40 so you'd better buy all the shit they're selling you is GARBAGE. The older I get, the cooler and more awesome my life is. I am still the same punk rock weirdo I was when I was in my 20s, I'm just wiser and more comfortable in my own skin than I was then. Getting older did not do ANY of the things I believed it would do. If I may offer two pieces of advice on the small chance a younger person than me is reading this: take care of your core strength. When you hit middle age, your body is just weaker than it was, and it's easier to hurt yourself. It takes longer to recover from injury, and if I could change one thing, it would be paying more attention to my physical strength. And the only currency, the only thing the ultimately matters in our lives, is choosing to be kind. The world is a cruel place full of awful people. Don't be one of them.
