I like to think that in a No Astrophage AU, Grace is letting Simon crash in his place for a while (because of circumstances, we move on) and one day he's at work and Simon is cleaning around when he hears the door open. And he's like "Ryland is at work, it's gotta be an intruder" because of course. So he grabs the nearest weapon-ish thing he can and rushes to the kitchen to find fucking. Colt Seavers eating cereal straight out the box

"simon would definitely beat grace in a fight no question" is taken for granted in a lot of fics and i don't want it to be!!! yes whatever simon is physically bigger and more superficially muscular, but grace is

taller, higher center of gravity

also pretty fucking muscular (no it was not just the ship, NMES devices MAINTAIN muscle they don't build it)

prone to explosive anger

fucking scrappy, doesn't fight fair (the chase scene)

FAST (how fucking far he got in the chase scene. which makes sense because he does cardio literally every day)

not to mention if you believe in coltlandgentry propaganda do you seriously think court wouldn't make damn sure his baby brothers could protect themselves. do you think colt wouldn't teach his notoriously clumsy twin how to take the least amount of damage from a fall or a hit.

like... let him get the upper hand. let him win, even. typical fanfic scene with simon attacking grace when he first wakes up on the ship, but grace locks in and triggers muscle memory he maybe didn't even know he had, gets simon pinned or in some kind of secure hold. "ohhh-kay. hey there. sorry, that's my bad for startling you. my name's grace..."

I need for Ryland to somehow come back to Earth (with Rocky and Adrian ofc, they're a package deal now) after they saved Erid and meet with Colt and Court (i do love some coltlandgentry even though i only watched phm as of now)

BUUTTT it's can't be this nice, we need some angst

Ryland still has problems with his memories, he doesn't remember a lot of his childhood (be it cuz his brain wants to protect him from the trauma or due to memory wipe or both, cuz both is good) and the brothers just look at Ryland's eyes sometimes looking for recognition and see nothing. Kinda as if they're seeing just somebody or something wearing their brother's skin

the "new" Ryland also has new habits - can't sleep without being watched by someone, clicks and taps, uses "statement" or "question" at the end of the sentences and overall copies a lot from Eridian's style of communicating. He also sometimes slips and says something in a very broken Eridian language instead of English

Throw in some chronic pain because he spent years in space and suddenly is in a place with gravity (counting Erid in that too)

I want Colt and Court to look at Ryland and mourn the loss of their youngest brother from before-the-Hail-Mary. Re-mourn if you will

I want Ryland to spend more time with Rocky and Adrian than with his brothers because the thought of looking at his siblings and not recognizing them to a level that he knows he should makes him feel so guilty that he'd rather isolate than to face them.

I want them to be reunited but in an angstiest (it's not a word, is it?) way possible without Ryland being dead

Edit: thought of something else - Colt and Court don't know Ryland was forced to go and so they think he'd "abandoned" them. Ryland wants them to believe he volunteered because he's "brave" (he doesn't even think about the possible "abandonment") but slips at some point and mentions the kidnapping.

being in the project hail mary fandom is taking me back to og tumblr days in the best ways while also being one of the most wholesome fandoms i’ve been in (i personally haven’t seen a lot of arguing)

come one, come all! we’ve got:

- popular queer headcanons people agreeing are basically canon (aroace ryland grace)

- unhinged crossover shipping that ends up trending on tumblr (bloodymary/simon from iron lung) which doesn’t take away from the aroace headcanon at all

- a sibling au birthing beautiful manips that the Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons fandom would be proud of (coltland twins, courtland gentry, etc)

- and overall just good vibes that are helping me through my final weeks of college
