Warning rant with hypothetical "you" used.
Please, please, FUCKING PLEASE, don't ever tell your ILLITERATE toddler to "go put [the book] back" in a library. While yes, you may not want that book, how, in the name of whatever you hold sacred, do you expect them to put it back in the correct place? 🙃 A) they cant read, and B) they don't remember where they grabbed it from. EVER! I don't care how "special" or smart you claim your screaming goo factory is. They will get it wrong.
There is almost always somewhere librarians would rather you left the book and NOT shelve them yourself. That is full-grown ass adults. This goes triple in the youth section because most Littles CANT FUCKING READ! How do you expect them to place a book back in alphabetical order first by author's last name, then first name, then title (all in alphabetical order). It's ridiculous that you have higher standards for your child than we have of YOU!
You can still teach your child to clean up by finding where we want you to put unwanted items for shelving and tell your kids to put them there! In a pinch, LEAVE IT ON THE TABLE!
I like children, I get children, it's the stupid, entitled, self-important, stuck-up parents I can't stand!
Tl:Dr if you tell an illiterate child to "put it back" about a book in a library, they will just pick a shelf and shove. And it is never the right one.
