Synchronising Dropbox with USB Drive
If your anything like me, you want to have your dropbox with you everywhere you go even on computers that don't have the internet or computers on which it would be a hassle to install dropbox and download everything. Yes yes yes... I know you can use the web interface and get all the files needed but that can be time consuming.
What I like to do is to sync my dropbox folder to my usb drive every night. This way I know for sure I have the majority of my files on me no matter what the situation is. It's a little bit of peace of mind.
The software that I use is called Synkron, it's completely free and allows you to sync any two folders together. You can also set up schedules so for example your dropbox folder could automatically sync every 15 minutes.
I hope this is useful to the people who needed a solution to this.
Why are PHP programmers not respected?
When ever I tell people I like to use PHP I always get a strange look, they either have never heard of PHP or they think it's just some kid language that's used here and their to process web forms.
PHP was the first language I ever learnt and I still to this day love it's flexibility. I feel restricted by other languages strict type syntax's. With the amount of plugins and packages available it is possible to do almost anything using PHP.
Combined with a framework such as Codeigniter I feel unstoppable creating web applications. Codeigniter introduces developers to a MVC paradigm, it's small footprint and well written documentation helps it's case. People who say PHP is sloppy and encourages bad practice really need to do some research and check out the frameworks that are out there.
I'm not going to go out and say Ruby sucks or Ruby on Rails sucks. I know loads of people that make fantastic applications using the combination. However I do feel it's all a matter of preference. I'm sure I could make a similar application in a similar amount of time using PHP as it would take a Ruby or Python Django developer.
Facebook.com was created in pure PHP and most of their developers are PHP programmers. Are they less of programmers than programmers at Youtube who use Python.

Computer Science at Brunel University
As you may already know I'm in my last year at Brunel University studying Computer Science (Software Engineering). I decided I'd give everyone a quick review/summary of my experience here.
First Year
Modules:
Level 1 Group Project
Fundamental Programming
Data and Information
Information Systems and Organisations
Logic and Computation
This was one of my favourite years, the course is very light and allows you to have plenty of free time to socialise. We got taught programming from scratch. The first language that we we're taught was Python. Then we moved onto Java. It was a very smooth transition and I'm glad it was done the way it was done. The most useful skill I picked up from this year was how to work in a group. One of the modules is a group project, where your put into a random group to build a html website. This made me more confident as a leader. The hardest module for me was the Logic and Computation module, you get thrown in the deep end with a programming language called "logic". I'm sure if I look at it now, i'd be fine though.
Second Year
Modules:

Software Development and Management
Usability Engineering
Algorithms and their Applications
Networks and Operating Systems
Second year was another great year for me. After being slowly introduced to programming concepts in first year. The second year brings you to the idea of building large scale software that would actually be used by real people. Modules such as Usability Engineering and Software Development and Management really help you make the right decisions while developing software, that I wouldn't of know about if I didn't come to university. For example the numerous ways of testing software. My personal favourite module was Networks and Operating Systems, the book that is suggested by the university is Computer Networking: A Top-Down Approach, 4/E , which I think is the most readable computer science book I've ever read. It mixes computer science with physics in an easy simple readable form. The hardest module I think personally was the Algorithms and their Applications module. This is because my maths isn't the greatest, I need things to be broken down for me to understand instead of just know. I don't believe the teaching for this module was the best, either way I passed.
Third Year

Drawing UML diagrams using textual descriptions
I was looking for some software that would make it easy for me to create UML diagrams. I stumbled upon a software called PlantUML (I have no idea why it's called this).
PlantUML lets you turn something like:
@startuml start if (multiprocessor?) then (yes) fork :Treatment 1; fork again :Treatment 2; end fork else (monoproc) :Treatment 1; :Treatment 2; endif @enduml

It should work on all operating systems so go ahead and check it out.
