My absolute favorite way to view the Inquisitor is as someone who is still a prisoner the whole game. Because there is never a clear moment that ends. You're given titles, but you still can't leave. You're given power to judge, but only the cases the advisors hand off. You are occasionally allowed to make a decision when the advisors can't agree among themselves. Three years after you finish what was supposedly your only job, they still haven't let you leave.

You're forced to risk life and limb for the cause you didn't have a choice in joining. After those 3 years after you finished your job you do actually end up losing limb (that was literally killing you) because you're still stuck there. And even after almost committing the ultimate sacrifice you still aren't free, not truly. You get a decade of peace, of supposed freedom, before being pulled back in a forced to serve, forced to lead.

The inquisitor never truly gets the freedom they had been fighting for, the freedom they earned after saving Thedas.

Everyone please meet the newest edition to the family: Carver Mercar Hawke, he/him transguy

(I will be making some adjustments to his appearance when I have the energy to actually attempt to give him familial resemblance lol)

He is the son of Fenris and Garrett Hawke (yea mpreg!✊ (I'm kidding technically, I made that Hawke ftm)) and was obviously named after Hawke's late brother, Carver (rip) (Bethany doesn't get a namesake cause she's still alive so) I know the timeline doesn't quiiiiiittteeee work for Hawke's kid to reasonably be old enough to be Rook but let's pretend they had Carver sometime during DA2 and not after and also idk suspension of disbelief or whatever, Rook would be early 20s ig

He's a warrior, was trained to use a sword by his dad (Fenris), and is a snarky bastard just like his pa (Hawke)

Yes I made him an elf and I know canonically half elves pass as human but I don't agree and these are my Barbie dolls to play with, I make the rules. I hc half elves having ears that look more like Qunari's, smaller but still pointy, I was hoping I'd be able to mess around with the elf ears to make them smaller and found I couldn't but didn't want to have to remake him as a human and I wanted the elf dialogue options so🤷‍♂️

Oh yea right, so I decided that during the threat of the exalted march, Hawke moved Fenris and a still kinda young Carver out of Kirkwall and after Hawke worked with the inquisition, they ended up in Tevinter with Dorian (don't ask where they were in between, I don't know yet). And obviously "I hate Tevinter mages and slavers" Fenris and "my dad was a former Tevinter mage slave and I'm half elf" Carver wanted in on the whole shadow dragon business (i know Fenris had the whole blue wraith thing going on but people can do multiple things), so Carvers been a dragon since like day 1

Which is why he was chosen to go with Varric to hunt Solas (much to Hawke and Fenris' chagrin), I mean like his dads were 2 of Varrics best friends, his uh mentor? Gay uncle? Idk was another friend of Varric, but also if I go with the basis that Carver was born during the event of DA2, then he literally knows Varric personally, that's uncle Varric, actually (it did take a bit to train himself out of calling him "uncle Varric" lol)

I meant to make this post like 5 million years ago but I finally got a call for a surgery date in a week and had to deal with informing my teachers that I'll be missing like a week of school and how I'll probably be back in a wheelchair for another week or so just while I heal more. DA2 might be my favourite DA game (don't tell its siblings that), I love all the angst and how no matter what decisions you choose, the story always ends the same, I love the illusion of choice and how Hawke is cursed by the narrative.

Official Dragon Age Map with Distance Key!

I bring you a Dragon Age Map with the OFFICIAL distances calculated in miles! Higher rez version here for the regular map and here for the map with extra large boxes to help with reading larger distances.

So I had been on the hunt for a Thedas map that actually had any distances calculated on it for years. There's some fan maps, but none were official.

Well, imagine my shock when I opened my dragon age ttrpg book to find a map at the back that DOES include official distances!! If you have the book, check the back, it's glued in there.

I found no one had uploaded this map online, though. So I took a photo, lined it up as best as I could with a map I found online of the same style, and then pasted in the distance calculator in the corner. I then added a grid on top. I couldn't find a better way of doing it than 5 squares for every 70 miles, which means each square is about 14 miles. I thought that'd be easier to calculate than trying to break a 70 mile chunk down.

Then I realized by looking at the map that trying to calculate longer distances using that map will suck cause they're such tiny squares... so I added another grid on top to make it so the large grid is 70 miles. I included both versions of the map for anyone to use.

According to this map and some online calculators, Varric was wrong that it took Hawke 2 weeks to get to Kirkwall from Gwaren. it should have taken closer to 20 days. But eh, not too big an error and 2 weeks sounds neater. Plus, we know he's an unreliable narrator.

The funny thing is, it takes nearly (edit: MORE than) 2 weeks to get across Ferelden. On horseback. Warden was walking. Warden... how far did you walk... How many miles did you cover...

Anyone feel free to spice up the map however you'd like! I hope this is helpful for anyone out there!

Anywho, this is Isaac (last name tbd, but he's not a Mercar)

I completely changed his backstory from what the Shadow Dragon background actually is because I came up with an idea for a Rook x Elek fic and wanted to make him in-game. His lore is fairly similar to Dorians, actually; basically, he's from a family of Altus mages and is dealing with the same thing Dorian was with the whole being gay but having a family obsessed with bloodlines and making the "perfect mage."

I think about him entirely too much. All this poor guy wants to do is help people (hence joining the shadow dragons), but unfortunately, his parents care more for gaining power than they do for bettering the lives of their countrymen (I haven't decided if his older brother also sucks or not).

Oh, but one of my favourite facts about him is that he secretly got a bunch of shadow dragon tattoos all over his body, except his face and hands, and is very careful to not wear revealing clothing around his family or anyone from Altus society; generally, he just avoids having them visible unless at his place or the lighthouse.

Another fun fact is that the small scar over his lip was from a scuffle with some Venatori, it was a pretty nasty gash and he tried to use healing magic himself, but he has like no experience using it, so it only kinda worked and resulted in that scar.
