There is this pervasive myth that people with a darker complexion cannot get a sunburn and thus needn’t use sunscreen. As a consequence a lot of dark(er) people end up with a melanoma and they find out too late. Please, for the love of all that is good, wear sunscreen.

It doesn’t help that most of the commonly taught methods of checking for melanoma involve looking for things that only really show up on lighter skin; I’m a nursing student and this constantly frustrates me that the models for diagnosing skin problems, especially things like melanoma, are taught in a way that’s relavant for light-skinned people, and not for those who are darker.
