I'm participating in the #ISATbookclub where the community replays/plays In Stars and Time in preparation for it's 3rd anniversary and share our thoughts about the playthrough!
MAJOR spoilers for ISAT abound, so please be aware when reading this!!
Anyway
1. Awww, Siffrin's friend is paying attention to the intricacies of their behaviors and actions! Love how early the fact that the party is paying attention/has been paying attention to him is being established.
I was thinking about whether Siffrin remembered the dream we are shown at the beginning right as I started it up. At first I thought, "No, it's it's supposed to be a window for the player to get intrigued or invested in the plot or some red herring on something Siffrin did in the past before the game starts. Why would Siffrin dream about something regarding the looping before the looping actually starts?"
AND THEN I SEE THE BRACKETED LOOP TEXT
SHIT, has Loop been at the freaking TREE THAT WHOLE FIRST DAY? what would have happened if Loop had somehow interrupted Siffrin before Siffrin asks for his favor? I know Loop hasn't realized what caused the loops yet, but thinking about that possibility is interesting.
2. How long has Siffrin been telling themselves this when they get up in the morning? I get the vibe that this has been happening for a while since they started traveling with Mirabelle and the others. Does he actually consider himself a person capable of being a savior at this point? It's felt like he's been along for the ride (and because he's found a family he loves), but not exactly for the saving of Vaugarde.
3. Siffrin initially comes off as a laid-back person who does not care much about what happens (go with the flow kinda fella), but at this point, they are so blind to how much of this is a big deal to Mirabelle (and also themselves). Siffrin is so familiar with eating together and sleeping in the same room that it doesn't feel like tonight is any different because he's where he wants to be. With them. He's still comfortable and (safe, surrounded by his friends). The rock at the end of Act 1 makes this more interesting because it triggered because he felt safe. That feeling is taken from him after it happens, and the ending of the journey slowly sinks in (as well as the mystery of the loops).
4. It's interesting how the party has gone on a pilgrimage already through their journey to Dormont, but the game itself is a second pilgrimage for Siffrin. He will be seeing the same places, NOT changing himself, and NOT seeing how he's changed the people around him. He eventually stops learning new things about people during the game until the end, when it finally clicks for him that they want to stay with him, too.
It's also very interesting how both Mirabelle and Siffrin are both blind to how they have changed and made a difference in each other's and others' lives at this point.
5. how is molding the world around you as you see fit not the same as willing something to happen? The other craft types, they all seem to be incredibly weaker versions of Wish Craft that are broken down into specific categories. But, the smell of Wish Craft is so specific, and the others don't have a specific smell attached to it. Seems like Wish Craft isn't the root of Crafting. But I think it would be cool if it was.
On that same note, everyone uses Craft to do things: they all change the world around them with it, they Change themselves with Body Craft, and Wishes can be made with Wish Craft.
It kind of comes back to Isabeau's later quote "Change is destruction."
There is a lot of focus in this game on one's drive to do something. One's will. The ambition, drive, or determination to shape fate or their future. How interesting that it goes back to one's willpower to accomplish something and how similar that is in its own right to Wishing.
6. Very interesting that something or a symbol that may be important to one religion may also be important to another religion. It's particularly funny in this particular case that the same symbol was viewed as having the same properties across both the Change Belief and the Universe belief/faith.
7. All of the nice things the party says to Mirabelle in the clock tower are all things they all feel about each other (as we learn later). These are also like...all of the things Siffrin really needed to hear, too. What if all these things were said to Siffrin earlier? Would they have been able to fully accept/internalize their friends' love and not doubt themselves on whether they deserve the love or not, without the journey they go on in this game?

I am SO HYPED about this project. I didn't talk about it too much because I didn't know if I'll be able to even finish all the sketches and building a false hype is the last thing I wanted to do. BUT HERE IT IS!!! I can't wait to finish it and show you the rendered version. It'll probably take me another couple of months to finish but I don't care 🕺

If Deltarune eventually has a full dialogue regarding Ralsei's identity, and I really hope it does, the most hardcore way to do it would be Ralsei straight up asking you:
"Kris, what do you want me to be?"
And then the game gives you this
This choice would put every player on the same level. Whatever your idea has been so far, whatever outcome you wanted, none of that would matter at this point. Because you know there's only 1 correct answer.
You either allow Ralsei to have autonomy, or you don't.
Once you ask that question, whatever Ralsei picks truthfully doesn't really matter. All that's important is that they were honest with themself.
Even if you like the outcome, even if you don't. We don't choose who people are.
