i keep thinking about winner's room as a glue/chemy thing, like the beer locker room cellies. 1st star coming back to the locker room and everyone's whistling hollering clapping who's it gonna be, he picks his prize and everyone loses their shit, and they dap up and laugh all the way to the room
pushing more and playing harder for the satisfaction of being wanted/the privilege of wanting!! ferda, team rituals, team bonding, inadvertent hierarchy of winner's room picks!! the mutual egos and thrill of winning/being the winner's room pick!! dares are more fun when everyone's in on it, egging each other on, raising the stakes!!!
consider this long list of scenarios kay @boxykay and mel @nyangle helped me brainstorm (more below the cut):
superstar who gets the most stars. he's made his rounds through the whole team and has given at least 4 guys gay revelations from his elite stroke game
captain who has become defacto nomination for new players because he's always a good time and he eases them into the team dynamics
designated picks. the guy who the locker room has collectively agreed gives the best head
off-limits pick. no one picks him. the last person who did, never got the keycard to the room again
goalie who picks his backup
1st star of the playoff clincher picking the injured or scratched teammate desperate to be part of the win
rookie/call up who has a phenomenal debut game and now has no clue what the team dynamics are. chooses the designated pick and the whole room cheers. chooses the off-limits pick and the locker room goes dead silent
superstar who picks the same player every time because he has 0 stroke game and that HAS to stay a secret
captain who makes sure he's picked every single player at least once per season so they don't feel left out, then rotates through the alternates so it doesn't look like he's playing favourites
rookies on new teams always picking each other. scared and confused and imprinting on each other. the boy wonder 1OA rookie getting stars every week but always picking the other rookie even though he's a 3rd round overager
rookies who don't want to have sex, who just want to enjoy the luxury of the winner's room, with food service, sauna, hot tub, king sized bed, plasma TV and every video game console ever. wow do you think [xyz veteran player] had sex with [abc veteran player] on this bed haha it's so funny that we're just playing video games on here. haha jk unless
rookies who have junior/ncaa level beef getting a shot at the winner's room for the first time. picking each other and tearing into each other. or getting picked by others and awkward trauma bonding over first time exposure to winner's room
veteran who has been on the team forever but always turns down the room, extremely private about his life, never picks, only chosen. until out of nowhere he picks the rookie
superstar getting traded to division rival team, suddenly becoming prime meat to the team he's been terrorising for his whole career. being dogshit his first game and has the worst night of his life in the room. his 1st star on the new team makes the whole locker room flinch
best friend players who get reunited getting to pick each other again. players who fucking hate each other landing on the same team after the deadline, finding ways to hurt each other against team protocol (maybe realising they like it a little too much)
grinder bottom 6 player who never gets 1st star and has to really think about who he's going to pick between his best friend on the team or the superstar
enforcer who gets into even more fights because it guarantees him a shot at the room if they're winning
tight-knit pack teams where everyone's had sex with everyone, everyone's in everyone's business. teams ripping apart at the seams because everyone's fucking miserable having awful sex with each other
but also consider. teams that have a precedent for always nominating the worst player of the night for the room, the inescapable toxicity of not being enough even after a win
1st star picking the worst player that night to give them a pick me up. maybe it makes them feel better. maybe it makes them feel so much fucking worse
the 4th line grinder on a tanking team who tanks even harder because he desperately wants to fuck the superstar but knows he never has a shot at 1st star. the superstar who notices this and picks someone else. the superstar who notices this and picks him to fuck some sense into him
the superstar on a tanking team that only picks the worst players of the night, having to pick his point drought best friend every night
BONUS: winner's weekend all expenses paid holiday at a private resort for the hart winner. league wide! does the hart winner pick another finalist? or does he stick to team chem?
