My mom likes to tell me about how when I was a little kid riding public transport with her I'd always smile and giggle and chat with weird old ladies who smelled like cat pee and homeless folks and strangers dressed in bizarre outfits but any time a tidy and respectable businessman in a suit and tie waved at me I'd immediately clam up, and she takes a great deal of pride in my supposed inherentability to clock personalities but the truth is I do vaguely remember those bus rides, and it was never about the clothes or the hair or the smell, but more because everyone "strange" asked interesting questions and listened to what I had to say and seemed to think about what I said while the neat and tidy and rigid folks only ever acted like they were going through the motions, which was boring as hell and also pretty annoying
Well-to-do finance manager with tidy shoes: "Why hello, sweetheart. Can you say 'hi'? Aren't you cute. Are you on a trip with your mom?"
4 year old me: why must we do this
Fantastic old woman in the leopard print coat: "Why yes, my tooth IS real silver! Nobody ever asks me that. Do you like cats?"
4 year old me, suddenly paying attention: Finally, A Person Of Intellect
I don’t have time to draw it right now but while driving home from the winco I saw a happy mustached man pedaling a bike, towing a cart built to look like a chariot, inside of which stood what I can only imagine was his completely expressionless 13 year old in a makeshift corinthian helmet
like this
charlie kirk did deserve to die. he deserved the way in which he died. he died wearing a shirt that said freedom, and his last word was "violence". he believed that the 2nd amendment required the sacrifice of lives. he loved the weapon that killed him more than the safety of his own young children. i hope it wasn't an instant death. i hope that just for a second he understood what was happening, and i hope he died scared.
Game where the ancient hero is awakened from the deathless sleep of centuries in the hour of their people's greatest need, only to find that civilisation is thriving and there are no obvious threats on the horizon; the game then becomes a fish-out-of-water detective sim as they try to figure out what woke them up, and also solve other, smaller mysteries along the way.
people who use the 👀 emoji in work chats to mean something to the effect of 'i saw your reply' freak me out PLEASE use the thumbs up emoji like a goddamn professional, 👀 is for the other group chat i've got open where someone just linked a fic examining the religious implications of fingering your frenemy's stab wound
was waiting on an emergency plumber, decided to smoke by my car instead of stare at my fucked up kitchen. he pulled up next to me, leaned out the window and goes "i'm assuming you're the client" like yeah buddy, read that one right
honorary best friend, mike the plumber, has saved the day. "don't worry, i've got pvc couplings you've probably never even seen before." brother, i wasn't aware that was something i could worry about
idk who needs to hear this but if you have been putting something off bc it doesn't need to be done until the end of the month. we are almost done with the teens we are approaching the big numbers (the twenties). that date shall dawn upon you swiftly and without mercy before you know it. psa for everyone except me i got plany off time
Okay I kinda assumed that they might try to turn Charlie Kirk into a martyr but seriously what the fuck
Here's a list of real things that have happened in the past 2 days:
He's being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom
JD Vance personally escorted his body back to Arizona in Air Force Two
All American flags both in the US and abroad are to be flown at half-mast for the rest of the week
Republican senators are calling for a statue of him to be built in the Capitol (quote: "we have one of MLK don't we?")
News anchors are sobbing live on television
The governor of Utah has pledged to give the shooter the death penalty
Vigils are being held nationwide
Evangelicals have been equating him with Jesus
In the House of Representatives a request for a prayer devolved into screaming that the Democrats killed him
The New York Yankees held a moment of silence before the game and proceeded to lose 12-2
People across the country are losing their jobs en masse for criticising him online
MSNBC's political analyst was asked what created the environment for the shooting, said it could be his divisive rhetoric, and was fired on the spot
A UK student wrote "he got shot lol" in a private group chat and it made the news
The State Department announced that they will revoke the visas of foreign nationals who "praise, rationalise, or make light" of his death on social media
Also it was 9/11
NOOOO THE SIX ORGASMS PERIOD HACK GOT REBLOGS DISABLED JUST AS I TRIED TO REBLOG IT whatever. I'm trying that next period.
Rescued media. Fuck it.
As both the World Wars and Tolkien recede from living memory I feel like there's room in the fantasy-doorstopper space for someone to do a story about a decaying, hegemonic fantasy nation that's been coasting on an internal narrative about how they beat the dark lord and the evil empire a generation ago, with basically every bad thing that's gone down since then being the result of someone growing up on those stories trying to pattern match whatever bullshit they're about to enact to that last wonderful moment of collective moral clarity
Why are you using chatgpt to get through college. Why are you spending so much time and money on something just to be functionally illiterate and have zero new skills at the end of it all. Literally shooting yourself in the foot. If you want to waste thirty grand you can always just buy a sportscar.
I’m really starting to think you people don’t understand what university is for. You’re buying the accreditation that you can do these things. It doesn’t matter how you do them.
I can assure you that how I place an IV catheter, an endotracheal tube, a splint, how I draw blood, induce anesthesia and calculate meds, and my actual knowledge of drug interactions and species limitations is of paramount importance and if I had chatgpt tell me how to do or about those things I would kill people's pets through my ignorance and incompetence
no u fucken dont
Sorry as someone who teaches rhetoric this is a wonderful response to the Paradox of Tolerance. I cannot tell you how many times my students have had debates about this. This is the response. This does indeed fix it. I cannot wait to tell this to my classes now. Philosophically and rhetorically this completely resolved the Paradox of Tolerance and I am floored by its simplicity and angry I never saw it before.
also there’s a difference between “thinking someone deserves to die because of their beliefs that are wrong and harmful” and “not feeling bad for the death of a terrible person who said deaths by gun violence were unfortunately worth it to keep 2nd amendment, the same person who said they would force their own three-year-old daughter to give birth to her rapist’s baby if she were to hypothetically get raped when she was ten years old, the same person whose ideology was doing harm to marginalized people”. you’re not a bad person for not feeling bad when something terrible happens to a terrible person.
