This is fucking excellent news. Researchers in Australia have managed to achieve near perfect results for a blood test that can detect endometriosis.
Until now endometriosis has only been diagnosable through invasive abdominal surgery.

Wait, so youāre not supposed to leave tampons in too long because the tampons have toxins in them that it takes time to absorb, or because the blood it soaks up was supposed to be carrying toxins out of the body?
hi anon,
those are both incorrect understandings of toxic shock syndrome. toxic shock syndrome is caused by overgrowth of specific types of bacteria commonly found in and on the body, which will in turn release toxins. the version affiliated with tampons, which is probably what toxic shock syndrome is most well-known for, happens because tampons provide a great place for that bacteria to grow.
leaving tampons in longer increases the risk of bacteria growing and releasing toxins, which is why it's recommended to change them frequently. the same is true of anything placed in the vagina for extended periods (no pun intended) of time, including other menstrual collection items such a menstrual cups or disks or forms of birth control such as the sponge or diaphragm, both of which have become less popular with the availability of hormonal birth control.
it's important to stress that toxic shock syndrome stemming from tampons and other devices have decreased sharply in the last few decades, ever since the health risks became widely known in the 1980s, and the majority of toxic shock syndrome reported today is not affiliated with any menstrual complications.
okay this is going to sound nitpicky, but menstrual cups do not cause toxic shock syndrome. toxins released by excessive growth of Staphylococcus aureus andĀ Streptococcus pyogenes cause toxic shock syndrome. that can happen whether you use a menstrual cup or not, whether you menstruate or not, in a vagina or not. you are in fact more likely to develop toxic shock syndrome in an infected wound than from a menstrual device.
again, I know this sounds like quibbling, but saying that a menstrual cup or tampon "causes" toxic shock syndrome makes it sound like they're not perfectly safe menstrual collection tools, which they both are. they can very slightly increase the risk of toxic shock syndrome but they aren't the cause, in the same way that... I don't know, people going jogging outdoors isn't the cause of people being hit by cars. there's a difference! important difference!
hey, that's a really good practice! a lot of health and wellness grifters get by using terms that sound scary without being able to back them up at all (or even define them), and it's smart to look out for that.
I'm happy to report that the toxins affiliated with toxic shock syndrome are literally just called toxic shock syndrome toxin-1

hey that last blog you reblogged was from a terf btw.
BARF!! Thanks anon. I'll delete that post, locate the study, and repost it myself.
Ok folks, here is the article (free pdf) on the study of menstrual products' absorption using human blood products instead of water or saline. It was first published in the British Medical Journal for Sexual and Reproductive Health in January 2024. Two years ago. I have a boundless rage in me. This study simultaneously fans its flames and adds the brimstones of vindication to the blaze.

Good evening. I'm sorry for using your blog for sharing my issues, those issues are just kind of dumb, so I'm embarrassed to talk about them directly with anyone.Ā
For some reason I feel really guilty taking painkillers or acknowledging my period hurts in general. I have no idea where this guilt even came from, I remember being 14 and my mom giving me pain meds and me being "No, I'm not sick, it's a normal thing, I don't need medicine for it". Now I'm an adult and I still have "it's not an illness or injury, I don't need anything to treat it" mindset which I fully understand is extremely dumb but everytime I take a painkiller I feel like I lost to someone I don't even know to who. Like "Oh I lived with this thing for 8 years, I'm supposed to barely feel it by this point, there's something wrong with me".Ā
What's worse is that not only I think that, but I think others think that, when they're clearly not. Sometimes I come across posts like "Men think women are weaker, but they would fall over and cry if they experienced 1/4 of period pain" or "If men had periods they would make them an official week off" and I think "Aw man, I also wish periods were a legit reason to skip work, the people who make and like these posts would probably think I'm so pathetic". And I fully understand they would not, because those posts made by people with painful periods to support people with painful periods, but I still feel paranoid. I even asked several times "Are you making fun of people who don't deal with periods well?" and everytime I got an answer "No, I take pain meds myself, I'm just sharing my frustrations" one girl I asked that answered she would never make fun of people with painful periods became she has endo and I felt so awkward and guilty accusing her of something like that.
This feeling of guilt is so frustrating and it makes an unpleasant monthly experience twice as unpleasant but I don't know what to do with it because I lived with it for so long. Maybe I need to go to therapist. Or maybe I just need to start completely ignoring it. I already understand it's dumb and irrational so I just need to power through all those feelings of guilt and when whatever sends me them sees they don't make me feel bad it will stop?
Hi anon, thank you so much for sharing this. I feel like this sense of guilt you're talking about is much more widespread than you might think. I have felt the exact same way. You are not alone in this.
Firstly, if you have the capability to see a doctor about your period pain, I suggest going asap. There may be something else going on that is causing your elevated pain levels.
Secondly, you mentioned that you've considered going to therapy or counseling regarding the guilt you feel. I support this wholeheartedly. As always, choose your therapist carefully; but if you have the capability to secure a good Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (CBT), they can help you get to the root of your guilt and start the healing process.
My therapist explained to me the difference between guilt and shame, and it changed the way I think and use those words. Basically, guilt is what you feel when you do something in opposition to your own moral code. It is internal. Shame is what others try to make you feel when you do something in opposition to their moral code. It is external.
So I challenge you to look deeply and try to decide whether taking painkillers goes against your own moral code, or whether it is an external pressure. Neither guilt nor shame is easy to work through, so again, therapy is super helpful for this. Either way, you'll have to do some digging. When you figure out where this guilt or shame is coming from, then you can really start healing.
To sum up: thank you for sharing this. You are not alone. If you can, see a doctor. If you can, see a therapist.
And please update me if you want to! I'd love to keep in touch!

Listen. Look at me. I do not want thin pads. I am not looking to do cartwheels I just need to make it to morning without having to throw out these sweat pants. The elevator doors from The Shining have opened. We are on the beaches of fucking Normandy. I need the thickest pad you have.

Same Home, Different Worlds
This poem is about menstruationāwhile it's something universal that happens to women, the experience can be completely different depending on where you are. I was thinking about how easily I and the people around me can manage our routines with clean water and supplies always within reach. But there are so many women who don't have that. For them, menstruation means scarcity, unsafe water, makeshift materials, and sometimes even having to flee while bleeding.

There's a post going around Tumblr about how if you're post-menopausal and have bleeding, you should get it checked by your doctor. I brought some minor bleeding I'd had up in a doctor visit earlier this year, prompted by that post, and this week, after a biopsy, I found out I have cancer. It's early stage and the survival odds at 5 years are 99%. I have an oncologist appointment and we may have caught it early enough that surgery alone will be sufficient treatment (no radiation/chemo).
So that post may have saved my life and it may have made my treatment a lot easier too.
If you get into menopause and then start bleeding again, really, get your reproductive innards checked out. The life you save may be your own.

the term āfeminine hygieneā being used so universally in stores makes me incredibly sad and it shocks me that more people donāt find it frustrating. why canāt we just say menstrual products??? itās more straightforward! what does āfeminine hygieneā even mean??? āmenstrual productsā doesnāt imply that menstruation is āunhygienicā, it doesnāt imply that you have to be āfeminineā to need them⦠itās a better term in every way. so WHY is āfeminine hygieneā the one companies are obsessed with using!! fuck!
Because something had to convince women as a whole that they are a necessity. And what better way than to make you feel dirty about it. Menstruation has been here for thousands of years and pads etc. were invented when.. imo the products and terminology are just another means to shame, control and profit off of women. Everything else is just an extra for the patriarchy unfortunately. I mean they even convinsed peole that without them they will get an infection.. WHAT?!?!!!
in ancient Greece, lint wrapped around wood was used as a tampon, and moss as well as buffalo skin were used as pads by Native Americans

Think Iām going to take a break from testosterone so I can try & get my period again, I miss it. I really want to be a man that menstruates but itās hard to have it both ways.
Going to talk to a gynecologist
Itās scary to admit I want something we normally consider feminine. But Iām kinda sad now that Iām farther along in my transition that I never got to experience a regular cycle & I want to try & make that happen before bottom surgery. I want to have a positive relationship to my period for once. I want to confidently & without shame say that Iām on period for once. I want to not hide it for once.
I want to assert that Iām a man & I have a period. Thereās zero shame in being a man that menstruates.
