Ive been at my job for 8 months. 6 months ago i was told i would be promoted. That never happened.
The boss is very disorganised, roster and pay are always late, and i havent seen a payslip in months. Im casual, so i understand sometimes my shifts are gonna change, but he wouldnt tell me until i had no choice but to accept. For example, i was supposed to do 3.30-8.30 one night, at 8.28 he texted me that that he would be late and id need to stay until 9. I said i couldnt, i had plans and he got mad as…
Anyway, he decided to go away for 11 days. He hasnt trained anyone but me to open, so i was rostered to do open-close everyday. Which is great money, so i wasnt too worried about that. Then, a coworker didnt turn up to her shift on a busy night. I texted her and she said she had told the boss who said hed sort it. Clearly he didnt. He wouldnt answer my calls or texts. I managed that night with one delivery driver, but had to call several angry customers to tell them i couldn’t get their pizza delivered to them. The other girl who was on with me ended up staying an hour late to help me out, but i still had to close the store by myself.
Anyway, i quit that night. Felt kinda bad cos they cant open without me while the boss is away (not sad the bussiness is shut for a week, sad my coworkers shifts had to be cancelled) but i just couldnt handle the lack of organisation and the stress. Im not a manager, im not being paid for the extra effort i had to put in.
I never noticed that this got posted 😅 so heres the update for yall
I was being paid, just didnt get pay slips (record of payment) so tax and stuff was a little harder to work out. And i was never sure if i was getting paid correctly or if they were shortening my hrs.
The boss tried to call me and get me to come back and finish those days, i never answered any of his calls. Just put the keys to the store in his mailbox and was done with him.
When they got back from their holiday, they reopened the store. Shortly after they sold the store to a friend. Turns out the boss had lied about how much the business was making (added an extra 0 to most nights takings). Obviously the store was not making money. The new owners closed the store. Last i heard (from a coworker who stayed after the shop was sold) the new owners were attempting to sue the original owner for fraud.
I havent even mentioned the best part of this boss: he used to own another business before my job. Part of the deal when he sold that one, was that he couldnt open a competing business nearby. So the boss had everything in his brothers name. Including all of his houses and cars. Apparently the boss and his brother got into a fight, so the brother took all the property and cars that were legally his. We love karma 🥰
This was 3 years ago but im still kinda mad about it 😅. Just to clarify, i couldn’t have gone to corporate as this was a small business. And tho i could have gone to the fair work ombudsman, i just didnt see the point. The boss wouldve just have just magically produced all my payslips and have told the ombudsman that i was lying.
The new owners had to close the store shortly after i posted my last update because they werent making any money.
The orginal owner opened a new store (with the same name) in another town. Hes now sold that store and moved back to my town where he has opened yet another pizza store (with a different name but same menu and same location). It doesnt look like he has improved much judging by the reviews for the new shop. Though i refuse to buy anything off the asshole to actually test it out. He has made fake accounts under his infant sons name to leave reviews and boost his rating tho 😂. Ive also driven past on my way to my new job and seen that he isnt wearing a mask, which is a legal mandate where i live. I also remember that none of the food was stored correctly (date stickers, sealed, 2-4hr rule not followed) so I just hope he gets a surprise visit from the health inspector.
Anyway, at my new job i was promoted from crew to shift supervisor within a year, and then assistant store manager within another year . Both promotions included a pay raise, and weren’t just for show. And I get all my payslips and pay on time. My store manager actually really appreciates my hard work and so treats me so much better than my old boss.
Anyway, know your worth and dont settle for less than it. 😁
