Chapter title: The Shogun of Wano - Kozuki Momonosuke (!!!!!)

First off, seems the Germa 66 have all escaped!! (No sign of Judge still... do we hope...)

The chapter starts right where it left off last time, with Momonosuke and the rest of the Scabbards (+ Hiyori) go down to the Flower Capital to tell the people that the war finally is over-

Kin'emon pops up!! He doesn't think anyone will recognize him but they all do of course

And I love that he's clearly doing the Oden pose

And then everyone runs to transmit the news to everyone in Wano-- BUT!! MORE IMPORTANTLY

YAMATO WANTS TO JOIN THE CRE!W!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT DID WE SAY??????? I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN ALL THE YAMATO HATERS IN THE MUD RN, YAMATO >>>>>>>>>

And I love how Yamato and Robin are the only two to "ask" to join the crew, instead of be asked.

And all of their reactions just match the way they reacted when Robin joined

Sanji heart eyes -> sanji and brook heart eyes Nami, Usopp are shocked (now plus Franky) Jinbe replaces Zoro as the one who's the most on the fence, saying that he'd rather wait for Luffy to wake up and make that decision !!

Of course Robin is being Robin as saying "Oh, how amusing"

And let's take a moment to talk about the fraud that is Tony Tony Chopper...

My man Zoro... who has always treated Chopper like a little brother, taken care of him and trusted him, who recently met the grim reaper himself and is on the verge of dying HAS NO BANDAGES IN SIGHT?? WHILE CHOPPER IS TAKING CARE OF LUFFY?? THE FRAUDULENT BEHAVIOR??? CHOPPER????

We also find out Tama's fruit powers only last for a month, after that the animals themselves have to decide what they want to do!! And we get this lovely moment between her and Speed

AND THEN WE START THE BEST SPEECH THE BEST MOMENT I CRIED I SOBBED I HYPERVENTILATED

WITH EVERYONE KNEELING FOR HIM. FOR HIM.

I wasn't able to write a review/rant last week so I'm very... very very late.

Chapter 1050 title is: Honor

The cover shows Ichiji and Reiju coming to help Niji and Yonji, which explains who set the books on fire last chapter!! No sight of Judge...

But anyways,,, the chapter starts off exactly where it ended (Kaido is falling down after Luffy's punch) and it seems like he's getting buried underground exactly where Big Mom fell...

Now, for a while now, we've all been saying that Big Mom's story isn't over... we all think she's going to be relevant in Elbaf (but it's not confirmed) so if that's true... maybe she escaped through the cracks on her path? Kaido's path down is straight down but Big Mom's has multiple cracks out...

Then we cut to Luffy falling from the sky after passing out, and Yamato (beautiful gorgeous Yamato) catching him (Look at how pretty Yamato looks:

)

And then come the waterfalls...

Toko and Tengu are talking about Yasuie and Toko is saying how some people said that Yasuie knew he was going to die because "he's very important" and Tengu says

Yasuie-dono gave his life in order to give this country one last chance. If he did not, the embers of hope we were entrusted with would have been snuffed out in an instant. He sacrificed himself for the future... He hoped that one day you would be able to live happily.

Upon hearing this, Toko decides to change her message on the lantern...

Why can't they open the border just yet? So many questions,,,,

AND THEN THE UNDERGROUND LAVA THAT KAIDO IS IN RIGHT NOW LITERALLY BLOWS UP

AND LET ME JUST BE CLEAR THAT YEAH MANY PEOPLE WANTED AN AWAKENING FROM KAIDO, OR THEY WANTED MORE, AND I UNDERSTAND IT AND I WOULDN'T BE MAD IF HE DOES GET ONE BUT IF THIS IS THE WAY KAIDO IS DOWN?? NOT MAD AT ALL, HE LITERALLY DIED IN LAVA THE SAME WAY ODEN WAS BOILED TO DEATH. PERFECT PARALLEL.

AND THEN MOMONOSUKE GOES DOWN TO THE FLOWER CAPITAL TO ANNOUNCE THE END OF THE WAR AND EVERYONE GOES WITH HIM

HIYORI, DENJIRO, RAIZO, EVERYONE ALL OF THE SCABBARDS TO ANNOUNCE THE END OF KAIDO AND OROCHI'S WRATH AND IT'S TIME IT IS FINALLY TIME

Woo. Okay. Lots of different reactions to this chapter, but let's just dive in-

Chapter title: The world you wish for

First off, might be interesting to mention that on the cover page we see Yonji and Niji inside Mont d'Or s books, but someone lit them on fire so they're able to escape now... who could it? Perhaps Ichiji, I mean he does have the fire powers doesn't he? Oh well-

So in this chapter, we kind of get a glimpse on Kaido's past!! Some information we got:

At ten years old, Kaido was considered to be the strongest soldier of the Vodka Kingdom [Note how Kaido is from the Vodka Kingdom, and he's always drinking? Oda thinks he's so funny]

Also, this might have already been stated but I never caught on but 44 years ago, he was 15 years old which makes him 59 now!

3. He was given to the Navy at 13 years old as collateral, or "Celestial Tribute" to ensure that the Vodka Kingdom could have a place at the Reverie.

4. He got his first bounty at 13 years old with 70 Million Berries

5. We previously got some information about his captures, and apparently he gets captured by the Navy so he could get some food and then escapes. This man is completely unhinged, he got captured 18 times by the Navy simply to get food.

6. Approached by Whitebeard when he was 15 years old (who was part of Rocks' pirate crew at the time) and told that Rocks is interested in him - he really was such a big name already at 15 that he got noticed and recruited by the most powerful pirate crew.

7. Then we get to God's Valley and of course get no extra information except-

STOP. SLEEPING. ON. GARP'S. NAME.

This is not new information per se, but I just want to reiterate it because everyone is always sleeping on Garp's name! Sure he teamed up with Rogers to do it but this was the strongest pirate crew at the time. Rocks. Whitebeard. Big Mom. Kaido.

8. There's some weird old lady in his past that seems to spur a lot of things on for him...

Might be his mother? She looks sort of familiar, a little Yamato-esque I'm not going to lie, and they look similar. I wonder if we'll find out who she is because she seems relevant. I mean, this is what she tells Kaido-

[Edit: I completely forgot about this lady but thanks to @danwhobrowses i was reminded: "the old lady is Kurozumi Higurashi, the old lady who pushed Orochi to plot against the Kozuki and gave him his DF, she had Bon Clay's DF before Kaido killed her for posing as Momo and distracting Oden"

If you study history, humans have always resorted to brutality to solve the world's problems. But then again, humans are just like any other animal. "Survival of the fittest" is our true nature.

Seems to shape much of Kaido's own views because he goes around to later tell his crew:

Let's show all those "peace-loving nobles" the hell-ish reality of war!! One's worth can only truly be gauged in battle!! Where everyone is equal and anarchy reigns free.

Kaido is just obsessed with fights, and proving your worth in battle. It's shown a lot in his past too, he was the strongest soldier in his kingdom by the age of 10, sold to the navy by the age of 13 because of his strength and ever since has never been defeated. He is obsessed with the idea of looking for someone who can defeat him - because he thinks whoever defeats him will be Joy Boy.

Remember I mentioned some chapters ago that Kaido believes that he is Joy Boy? Well, clearly that's not the case. When he said "So you couldn't be Joy Boy either?" to Luffy he wasn't referring to himself, but to everyone to go up against him and fail to defeat him.

He's been waiting patiently for that man to appear. 20 years ago he found out that Oden was waiting for Joy Boy in Wano and believed he would appear, so he resided himself in Wano to wait for Joy Boy. Another interesting question: King was waiting for Joy Boy? For what reason?

Anyways!! So back to the present!!

So Luffy is punching Kaido right, and Kaido asks

What kind of world do you want to make?

A world where my friends can eat as much as they want-

That's my kind of world!!!

And Kaido falling down after this, and after he expresses the fact that whoever defeats him will be Joy Boy - King saying "I don't think he'll ever appear"

And the lanterns coming up:

Please vanquish the scary dragon.

Restore the Kozuki clan.

Here's my thing now. This dragon is clearly not Kaido, it's Momo (after saving Onigashima and Onigashima landing safely!) Luffy is falling. Where's Kaido? It seems like he's done (seeing the lanterns and the emotional impact) but is he really?

My reaction to this is: I'm okay with it either way. If he' defeated or not. And I understand that some people wanted more from Kaido, and more from his flashback - but the hate? Saying Wano is trash if this is it? That's all agenda talk. Shut up, this was a great chapter. Luffy did so much.

Break next week, this is gonna be a tough two weeks.

Chapter title: 20 Years

This chapter was definitely an emotional one, I cried, you cried, the whole world cried.

For the frontpage of this chapter we're still on wholecake island, and it looks like the germa 66 guys are still trying to infiltrare chocolat town? So are they the figures shown on the last page? Hm... it didn't look like them...

Anyways,

Luffy just told Momonosuke to move onigashima out of the way so he could punch the shit out of Kaido and put an end to him, which Momonosuke is, of course, still struggling with...

Luffy is ready to punch Kaido with a fist as big as an entire island, and more than five times as big as Kaido himself and instead of moving out of the way or dodging the attack, Kaido's pride is on the line as a Yonko of the seas, and so he says

"Very well, I'll take this attack head on."

"Did you know strawhat, this country's 'hero' was burned to death 20 years ago"

And just like he burned Oden to death, he transforms into another dragon form, much bigger than his usual form, the Flaming drum dragon.

And he's planning on "vaporizing" Luffy's fist...

But because of Luffy's conqueror's coating, he can attack Kaido without touching him - he uses an attack called the 'Bajrang Gun'

Bajrang is a reference to the Hindu god, Hinuman- a divine monkey god (AND!! I JUST READ -- Bajrang is the son of the wind god - and we've always speculated that Dragon has some sort of fruit connected to the weather, storm or wind!! Maybe he has the powers of the Wind-Wind fruit, or even an actual Wind God fruit?)

This chapter also just solidifies what an absolute piece of shit person Orochi is, truly one of the most despicable villains of one piece...

AND

you can't tell me this doesn't look like Zoro- like how is this not Zoro's dad? or related lmao

Him and the rest of the Daimyo's of Wano faced off against Kaido and refused to view Orochi as the shogun - hence him being captured!! Oh well... we'll see what happens.

And again... these flashbacks are just proving how awful Orochi and Kaido both are, making them even more evil. This above panel was so tragic, a mother looking for food carrying a crying baby on her back.

Let's have the rest of the Ebisu town follow suit. Their bellies will stay empty and their loved ones will continue to keel over... but they won't be able to do anything except grin brightly!! They'll never stop laughing.

And this piece of shit Orochi is still tormening Hiyori, he has a million lives I swear... but then !!

!!!!!!! WHAT DID I SAYYYYY WHAT DID I SAY WAS GOING TO HAPPEN??? DID I NOT SAY DENJIRO WAS TOO QUIET?? THAT HE WASN'T SHOWN ENOUGH?? THAT HE HAD TO DO SOMETHING``??? I KNEW HE WOULD I KNEW HE WOULD AND GOOD!! GOD IT'S SO GOOD THAT HE WAS THE ONE TO KILL (??) OROCHI AFTER HAVING TO SPEND 20 YEARS AT HIS SERVICE AND PRETENDING TO BE WITH HIM DENJIRO I LOVE YOU YOURE AMAZING YOU DESERVED THIS

AND AS HE'S DOING THIS A LANTERN SAYING "PLEASE MAKE OROCHI DISAPPEAR" FLOATING UP IN THE SKY? I SERIOUSLY CRIED SERIOUSLY

Another one... Free us from this hell. and Give me a sip of clear wate. This is so tragic, and people like saying there's no stake to this war. There are no stakes? Not the people starved for food and water? Not the people locked up and forced to labour for Kaido and Orochi? They're not stakes to this war?

And that's where we end it. Luffy still about to punch Kaido, The present hears the cries of the past. Will this be the end of Kaido? Will he have another trick up his sleeve? Awakening? His past? A flashback? Who knows, no break next week!!

Chapter title: The Skies Above the Capital

We start the chapter off with Momonosuke still struggling to produce flame clouds to hold Onigashima up, but Kaido getting beaten just means Onigashima is falling faster and faster which means time if of the essence... the he gets a flashback of when his mom sent him and Kinemon to the future:

Imagine having to tell your 8? 9? year old son that he needs to leap TWENTY years into the future so he could save your people, and forcing him to leave behind his mother and his sister, after his father just died... the more we see of Momonosuke, the more he is manifested as one of the best developed side characters of Wano for me. And speaking of well-developed side characters...

KINEMON.

OH MY GOD KINEMON.

THIS LITERALLY MADE ME SOB

Momonosuke-sama!! Think about your mother's feelings. This is the land of the samurai; when one suffers a great failure here, their life is usually forfeit. No man should question the resolve of a woman who speaks with such conviction. Nothing could be more shameful.

+ Can't you give us that chance`? I would do anything to wield my sword for you, my lord.

Kinemon is so underappreciated in this fandom, he really gave his all to protect Momonosuke while pretending to be his father, all to avenge and save him and his country for Oden. He is an amazing character.

THEN WE CUT TO LUFFY THROWING THUNDERBOLTS AT KAIDO

Literally grabbing lightning and swinging it at him

this fight is just SO GOOD and SO GOOFY, like Kaido swings at Luffy and sends him flying so Luffy

grabs onto the lightning to send himself back ??? He's so funny but also he's so smart

Then comes the hot debate of the week

So what Kaido is saying, is that Roger (who had no DF!!) conquered the seas and trumped over anyone because of his Haki, and that unless you have a strong Haki you can't wish to beat anyone. Now this has been, IMO, been taken out of context because basically

(1) We know this already. A really strong devil-fruit isn't enough to become the pirate king, and there are several fighters (Shanks, Mihawk, Garp, Zoro, Sanji etc.) who have no DF but with great Haki. This however does not mean that just because you do have a strong Haki you can defeat anyone, or that it's always Haki > DF in terms of fighting

(2) On the other hand, yes, Haki increases your chances of "conquering the seas". It was literally stated at the beginning that all the people at the top of the new world posess a great Haki ability. Basically all the topshots have haki, but not all of them have a DF because that's not necessary.

Anyways, so Kaido swings at Luffy and hits hard, but Luffy keeps holding onto him (and "giving away his position") when Kaido does this attack:

Let's talk about it. Death Destroyer, or Daitoku Myôô - At the bottom right corner it says "Another one of Buddhisms wisdom kings. He is known for besting the god of death, Enma"

What does this mean? Okay, bear with me. Kaido literally does not die, we know that. Even killing himself doesn't work, so it makes sense that this is not a coincidence. Using an attack named after a buddhist king who bested the "god of death"? Besting the god of death, besting death itself. So if Kaido were to die during this arc, it would make sense for him to die at the hands of Enma-- you know where I'm going with this but I'll stop before getting called a ZKKist. LMAO.

We'll move on before I start ranting-

WHY IS THIS PIECE OF SHIT STILL ALIVE AND IF DENJIRO DOESN'T KILL HIM ILL RIOT THATS THE ONLY THING ILL ACCEPT? LIKE DENJIRO HAD TO FOLLOW HIS EVERY WORD FOR 20 DAMNED YEARS IF HE COMES AND KILLS HIM ILL BE SO HAPPY PLEASE

And also remember when Kaido said "haha dumbass ur lame uve got a strong devil fruit haha who cares my haki is stronger" so LUFFY SAID BET

Chapter title: Raizo.

- I know a lot of people were disappointed when they saw the chapter title because they wanted more of Luffy's fight (and a lot of you don't like Raizo either) but personally, I am happy we got more of Raizo because of how important he was for both the minks and the Scabbards.

Anyways-

Okay, I usually don't talk much about the cover story but this one was super interesting (and some of them do end up being canon or part of the story so!!)

A lot of people are debating who these two could ranging from the more predictable Germa 66 or even Blackbeard pirates - I'll join the prediction line of saying they (kind of?) look like revolutionary? I mean their shoes are definitely not Germa - so my first guess was the blackbeard piraates but the long coats and the silhouette is just giving me revolutionary and i don't know why so don't ask... I guess we'll see.

We start the chapter off with some Kaido vs. Luffy battle continuing, and Zunisha even saying/thinking (addressing it to Joy Boy): This all seems like fate. I can't help but think we should put our faith in this boy.

AND WE ALSO GET THE ICONIC, NEVER AGING, NEVER BORING SAYING

I AM MONKEY D. LUFFY, I WILL-

And!! Oda legit told everyone who's talking about reincarnation and whatnot to shut up, everyone debating whether or not this is really Luffy, he is Luffy, and this is his awakening--

Kaido: "We call this an awakening. Your mind and body are finally able to harness the potential of your ability" --->

and this just leaves us questioning; when is Kaido's awakening coming? Because surely he has to do it now...

And we get some more exchanges of blows, and it's always interesting to see how Luffy can bend and control himself and his surroundings now with the awakening... bending himself like this, and even bending Kaido's body when he's punching him to give more effect to the punch

AND I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE whenever we get those "they got me - i got them moments" - We got Kaido saying that everyone's gonna burn to death in the inferno below and Luffy just says

"I left it all to them, I've got nothing to worry about."

AND AGAIN- I just want to repeat that I LOVE this fight, it's just a blend of serious, and really really goofy and I love every part of it

Like c'mon look at this

Anyways... so currently everything is on fire in Onigashima. Bepo and crew are complaining about the heat - and just can we just take a moment to discuss how they've done... nothing? like they're yelling for Law to come and save them but they've seriously done nothing and to me, at this point, if Bepo were to ever go Sulong and do something it's more of a "finally" than a "wow" moment. yeah. we'll see.

We've got a little bit more of all of the crew, Nami and Chopper are together, Robin and Brook still running, Usopp trying everything he can to stop the fire to save Kiku and Kinemon, and

Sanji with his cute little rat Chuuji

And Franky carrying passed out Zoro who needs urgent care from Chopper (😭😭😭😭😭😭)

ALSO!! We get shown Apoo and Ibi again, and remember we said they could be the samurai prisoners imprisoned with Yamato in the past? That theory still holds up, because why else show them this much...

The connection has to be coming...

And then we finally get to the man of the hour, Raizo!!

The fire is everywhere, no one can escape it and people are going crazy - that's when Oda gives Raizo the opportunity to save everybody on Onigashima, and repay the debt of everyone saving and protecting him -

He teams up with Jinbe to put an end to the fire - and because he has the Maki Maki fruit (scroll scroll) he has the ability to store things and what did he store? The water that Zunisha uses to wash it's back - So he uses Elephant Bath Restoration and paired with Jinbe's Ocean Current Should Throw they manage to send the water flooding everywhere to put out the fire.

Despite my Ninjutsu, I was unable to protect any of them. I can never make up for that failure, but I will never let myself be that helpless again!! Never!!

And now we know that the preparation undertaken in chapter 1041 that Raizo was speaking of has nothing to do with Denjiro, which leaves the question - where the hell is Denjiro?

PS. Can we also talk about how this means that Raizo has had water on hand for this long and refused to save himself from the fire during his fight? He's extremely strong, and extremely underappreciated.

We know Momonosuke still has to create flame clouds, so we're waiting on that, I still hold on the hopes and dreams that Zoro will get up and we'll get answers on whatever happens to the Grim Reaper-

We know Kaido is at his limit now, so predicting the fight will officially end in about 4-5 chapters- when will we get awakening though? Hm.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST

WE GET THIS RANDOM PANEL OF LUFFY HOLDING ON TO A LIGHTNING BOLT? TO STRIKE KAIDO WITH???? HE IS SO COOL

And could this mean we could potentially get a Nami-Luffy Combo someday`?

Okay, wow, this was definitely one of the funniest one piece chapters I've ever read. I felt like I was reading a cartoon network-y, Tom and Jerry esque type fight but in the best way possible.

The chapter title is called Next Level -

which is very fitting, because at this point there is just no one on Luffy's level. He's really unmatched.

Like he's just having fun,

- and yes, like we all assumed (correctly), he can make all of his surroundings rubber as part of his awakening. BUT, not only can he make every surface and object rubbery, he can also make Kaido himself stretch like rubber!!

Kaido literally swallowed Luffy whole and he ended up

blowing up into a ballon inside of Kaido, making Kaido's body stretch like rubber

AND HE ESCAPED FROM INSIDE OF KAIDO THROUGH HIS EYEBALL??? LIKE WHAT KIND OF FIGHT IS THIS

and it's just... so good to see how fun he's having

AND THEN WE GET THIS CRAZY ASS PANEL???

and my personal favorite moment of this fight-

LUFFY PLAYING JUMP ROPE WITH KAIDO??? LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME THIS IS THE BEST

and you can just see that Oda himself is having so much fun because i mean

he's just having the time of his life drawing all of these expressions, and all of this it's jsut so. fun!! like this is luffy's fruit awakening in it's perfect state, the hito hito no mi model nika is all about bringing joy into people's hearts and tell me one person who wasn't reading this with just the biggest grin on their faces

and then of course.

because oda is oda.

this can't all be fun and games!!

and i understand... the way he drew this was funny, like the way luffy went from gear 5 to this old wrinkly sight but the implications of this? just made me go from having the biggest grin on my face to really damned sad

"this is taking a lot out of me" like all of his gears, and all of his powerups, luffy is slowly killing himself quicker and quicker and gear 5 is LITERALLY SUCKING HIS LIFE OUT. He's giving it his ALL, his heart literally stopped and he GOT IT BACK UP FOR THIS, he's sacrificing so much of his life just to beat kaido

He literally had to bang his hands on the ground to get his heartbeat back up -

going gear second stance, to get back into his gear 5 and saying

Do you really think after all of this, something like death can scare me? Come on heartbeat, get loud again.

He is literally trying to get his heart back up, the music starts sounding again (Doom Dut Da Da) and he's back.

Okay, this chapter is so big I'm going to try and structure it a little differently, discuss things in parts 😭 😭

1. Chapter Events

Chapter title: Warrior of Liberation

So the chapter starts with Luffy saying: What's happening...? How can I still stand? I just lost... but I feel like I'm having a blast.

And music/drums (Doom Dut Da Da) playing all around him - And we've got Zunesha saying Luffy Is Joy Boy!!

(this panel is amazing by the way, wow!!)

And we cut to the Five Elders discussing Luffy and his devil fruit, the "Gomu Gomu No Mi", as we know it-

No matter the era, the world government has always failed to acquire the gomu gomu no mi, even after 800 years of trying.

The fruit Luffy has carries the name of a "God"... After all the gomu gomu no mi is actually a mythical zoan type - human human model Nika

It is allegedly the most ridiculous power in the world.

We cut briefly to Hiyori and Orochi talking, or more like Orochi begging Hiyori to spare his life-

((another BEAUTIFUL panel))

and Kanjuro comes (on his last breath, as the dying flame) and ends up killing Orochi. I have to be honest with you guys here, I wasn't focused too much on this part because LUFFY NIKA JOY BOY LUFFY NIKA JOY BOY LUFFY NIKA JOY BOY

AND THEN WE GOT LUFFY JUMPING TO GEAR FIFTH, ALSO HIS AWAKENING!!

WE GOT LUFFY LITERALLY SWINGING KAIDO AROUND

We also see Luffy literally pick up the ground, and bounce back Kaido's attack - this could be his awakening!! Playing around with all the space around him!!

IT LOOKS SO GOOD!! AND HE'S JUST HAVING THE TIME OF HIS LIFE HE'S LAUGHING AND HAVING A BLAST I LOVE HIM

And again, Kaido apologizing for CP0 (code of honour? I need his backstory!!)

He just looks great, it was an amazing chapter and i literally can't believe we actually got this confirmed. I've seen before (and even years before) that some people thought luffy's devil fruit might have actually been Nika and I need to find that theorist again because????

Okay well this is going to be long because I have three more points to talk a bit more about, I'll put a divider so it doesn't get too much-

2. Why did the Elders wait until now?

I've seen a lot of people comment on the fact that it doesn't make sense that the elders knew that the fruit they were looking for this entire time was called the gomu gomu no mi, and that they didn't go and catch Luffy immediately, or alert the people at marineford or whatever whatever well first of all - the actual devil fruit, nika, hadn't been used in 800 years - the only ones who knew about the fruit were the elders and they didn't know about Luffy!!

As (@/Huureviews) on twitter pointed out, after the conclusion of Marine Ford the elders said:

There was no way for them to know about Luffy's DF because they've never seen him use it, or even seen him at all, the only ones who see him use it are always surprised by his DF - and he always says "I'm a rubber-man", if you don't know about the rubber properties gained after eating the Nika fruit, you won't connect the dots and the only ones who could where the elders (who didn't know)

(+) which is why even more people are now seemingly convinced Shanks meeting up with them was about the fruit

3. Zoan fruits have free will

A very small point - In the chapter the elders say that all Zoan type devil fruits have a "will of their own" and that's why the Nika fruit always seems to evade them - could this explain how Luffy got a hold of it?

We know that Shanks had the DF, but he was also VERY upset when Luffy ate the fruit, and it doesn't make sense that it was that easy for Luffy to eat the DF (that he could just open the box, wouldn't Shanks have locked it up, or kept it away better?) SO what it, Sun God Nika, the devil fruit, in it's own free will wanted Luffy to have his powers? Too many questions, so little answers.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST

4. The true abilites of Model Nika

NO, the human human fruit - model Nika isn't the strongest power in the world, or the most powerful as some people suggest - it's the most ridiculous. Another word for it would be comical, that's Luffy's fruit. The user's body gains the properties of rubber, and in combat they are only limited by their imagination - to clear things up, this DOES NOT mean that Luffy's powers came solely from the fruit - it came from his own imagination, will and creativity.

Anyone with this fruit might have stretched a little, thrown some punches and called it a day but Luffy's imagination and his desire to grow stronger and stronger made him train even more, which made him unlock all of these different possibilities. His DF is strong, but Luffy controls it (not vice versa).

And that concludes my rant for the day!! What did you guys think? Some people think Shanks might have gone to the village wanting Ace to eat the fruit, knowing that Roger's son was somewhere there - what do you guys think`?

Let's see if I can manage not to scream about the last panel before getting there... let's just get everything else out of the way first.

Kaido!! Let's talk about Kaido for a second. I hope we get his backstory soon, because I'm really intrigued by him and his mindset. He looked so distraught when Luffy was held back by CP0, and he defeated him. That's either because he defeated him with someone else's interference (meaning we sort of get another Katakuri-esque mentality) or he just wanted to keep clashing with Luffy, seeing as he hadn't had a proper one-on-one in ages and he seems like he quite enjoys fighting. So yes, I want more!!

Aside from being distraught about the defeat, (and I'm jumping back and forth a little) Kaido definitely lives up to his name in my opinion. He fought Big Mom (Almost forgot about this actually!!) the samurai, scabbards, then he fought Luffy, Zoro, Law, Kidd, and Killer (albeit not quite intensely), then he had another clash with Luffy, then he fought Yamato, then he fought Luffy again and now he's already looking for more trouble, and looking for more people to fight--

It is a little disturbing, though, having to see a panel like this:

I never would have ever expected to see a panel with Kaido being written as the victor. Luffy has lost multiple times in the story by now, but not having a clear winner is always indication of him coming back but this says it clearly- Victor: Kaido.

I'll talk more about Luffy but let me mention some other stuff first:

First of all!! This arc is doing a splendid job at really showcasing Nami's loyalty and complete trust in Luffy. She refuses to believe he's down, and not only that but she also literally screams directly at Kaido - AND CALLING HIM AN OVERSIZED SNAKE

And also!! Thank you Marco!! Again!! For the thousandth time!!! For helping and saving us!!!!!

Second of all!!

The more I read, the more I love Yamato!! Like I would love for Yamato to join the strawhats, genuinely. Yamato's connection to Ace and just the overall vibe and ambitions. Also!! Yamato's idea of refusing to ever surrender and become a slave is similar to Luffy's own mindset. When Momonosuke wanted to surrender to Kaido because he thought Luffy had lost and there was no chance of ever winning without him, so Yamato said this (amazing, goosebumps, lovely, amazinh, amazing, amzaing):

They'll (The Samurai) live and then what? They'll be slaves until the day they finally die from exhaustion. In the end, surrendering won't save anyone!! All the Daimyo that allowed Orochi to have his way went to their graves full of regret. Everything Wano endured for the past 20 years was for the sake of this battle. Even if surrender is our only option, I'd rather we die together!!

AND NOW!! TO THE HIGHLIGHT, THE STAR, THE !!!!! OF THIS CHAPTER

In the manga we get SFX next to panels of Luffy that show that his heart literally stopped beating. This all seems to point to him "dying" but BUT and this is the important part - Zunisha hearts something.

This week's chapter: Winners shouldn't need rationalizations.

Take-away from this chapter: Oda stays unpredictable like always.

First of all, I was so shocked reading this because this just came from nowhere and honestly I just thought that Drake was really stepping up right now but

I should have known that they wouldn't take down CP0 like that (but honestly, Izo took down one of the CP0 in one panel so it would'nt have been too big of a reach).

Anyways

The citizens of the flower capital are still writing wishes on the lanterns and raising them to the sky, and I would love for Luffy to take down Kaido with all of the wishes and lanterns flying in the sky.

We cut back to Kaido versus Luffy fighting, and Luffy still in Gear Fourth - although he's still worried his Gear Fourth is going to run out before he has time to defeat Kaido (which!! Listen!! I don't think Gear Fourth is his last power up though? Haven't we gotten a power-up for every fight, and yes I know we got Conqueror's Haki for this one but don't you think we could get something else?)

And only in One Piece will you find the main villain of the arc doing this:

What is Oda even on 😭 😭

And then!! Kaido "takes one out of" Luffy's book and looks into the future, which would make sense because there's no way the main opponent in Wano wouldn't have future sight!!

I've seen a lot of people (already) talk about how it's weird that Kaido didn't use FS before, but it really... isn't? We know Observation Haki can be draining, especially when you see into the future. Kaido wouldn't use FS unless he really thinks that he couldn't have escaped Luffy's attacks and when he's truly on the defense. It really makes sense, why would you show all of your powers immediately?

We've also got Kaido telling Luffy, after Luffy says the Samurai are strong: A brave face makes them strong? Winners shouldn't need rationalizations!! Which are you?! Winner or loser?!

-- Which is interesting. Could this be a facade? Is Kaido talking about himself in a way? (Remember his sad drunk/depressed drunk phase when he was crying about not being able to fight/being too weak and "something" being his fault?) I think we might actually delve into Kaido's past soon!!

Then Kaido and Luffy get ready to attack one last time (Luffy saying this is literally the last attack he has in him)

WHEN SNAKE ASS CP0 MEMBER COMES AND DOES IRON BODY TO HOLD DOWN LUFFY ?????? LITERALLY WHAT?????? I DIDN'T EXPECT THIS TO HAPPEN SO SOON IT WAS LITERALLY THE LAST CHAPTER WHEN THEY TOLD CP0 TO "ANNIHILATE" LUFFY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BUT I DIDN'T EXPECT THEM TO DO SO THIS SOON????

KAIDO WAS ABLE TO LAND A DIRECT HIT ON LUFFY TO KNOCK HIM OUT BECAUSE CP0 BUTTED IN LIKE THE SNAKE THAT HE IS LIKE WHAT IS SO IMPORTANT WHY IS IT WORTH RISKING YOUR LIFE JUST TO TAKE DOWN LUFFY DO YOU GUYS UNDERSTAND THE SERIOUSNESS???? HE JUST RISKED ANGERING A DAMNED YONKO JUST TO TAKE DOWN LUFFY???? WHAT DID LUFFY DO WHO IS HE OH MY GOD

And also!! This has to mean something!!

This is Kaido's reaction to CP0 holding down Luffy, and a flashback of Oden's defeat gets brought to mind. It's sort of a parallell, and I'm pretty sure Kaido is going to go crazy in some way, but Luffy has to step back up and surpass that... damn

Let's just get right into it-

Chapter title: Komurasaki,

and for those who don't remember that refers to Hiyori!

The chapter starts off immediately by picking up where chapter 1040 left off, with Momonosuke and Zunisha!! Zunisha is "awaiting" Momo's orders and claims he has come to fight alongside him, and Yamato answers by saying:

Incredible, Momonosuke-kun!! You really can speak to it!! Just like Oden predicted, you're the one that's meant to lead the world to it's dawn.

And Momo's following speech makes it all too clear just how much burden he is faced with, and the pressure that he has to endure as a child. Momonosuke worries about the people of Wano Kingdom, if Oden was still alive, would he open the borders of Wano the world in these circumstances? Would he take that risk? And he asks the pressing question of Why the hell were Roger and Oden laughing at Laugh tale?

We also find out (^) that the Scabbards (most likely Denjiro or Kawamatsu who we haven't seen during the raid much) are preparing for something.

(For those of you who don't know, Denjiro and Kawamatsu:

We haven't seen either in a while, so it would make sense for either of them to have been preparing for something)

The chapter is titled Komurasaki because Oda dedicates a few panels to Orochi and Hiyori, and Orochi thinking Hiyori is too calm among this rubble and chaos, and then Hiyori revealing she is Oden's daughter.

Personally, I didn't think that part was too interesting or anything, since it cut off right when Hiyori said she was Oden's daughter so not much happened!

WE DO HOWEVER,

Get this cool conclusion to Izo's fight with one of the CP0 (another off-screen fight, it's a shame we didn't get to see it. So, when I say "conclusion" I mean really the only part we got of the fight)

Izo defeats one of the CP0, but gets knocked down in the process. That leaves the other member of the CP0 who get's ordered to take down "Mugiwara no Luffy" as soon as possible. They don't care that he is in the middle of a fight with Kaido, CP0 have been ordered directly from the five elders to take down Luffy. Some say this suggests that the devil fruit they were talking about was indeed Luffy's Gomu Gomu, but regardless of if it's true or not, they realized Luffy holds the key to something and want him defeated as soon as possible.

We also see Franky looking worried for Zoro who still is still unmoving, and we didn't even get to see what happened between him and the "Grim Reaper"

We get to see more of Kaido and Big Mom's relationship to each other in Kaido's flashback when he realizes that she was taken down

Wouldn't surprise me if the next, or upcoming few, chapters will be more from Kaido's flashback and he meeting with Big Mom...!

And we get Gear 4th - Snake-Man Luffy beating on "Weeping drunk" stage Kaido!!

Don't talk to me about your dreams. Your dreams made the people of this country starve. I'm giving gear fourth one last go! I won't stop swinging until I have nothing left! I'm kicking you out of this country for good!

The "One Last Go" makes me think we're in the final stages on this fight, a flashback of Kaido and some more action and it seems likely it'll be the end--

Of that fight at least! We still have the rest of CP0 to worry about, and everything else...

Every week I'm dumb enough to look at what other people say about the chapter on Spoiler Tuesday... I don't look at the actual spoilers but just at some comments, foolishly. This week, I can't count the amount of people to complain or hate on the chapter so when I started reading it I was just waiting for whatever to happen that would be "trash"

and the conclusion is

one piece stans should just shut up like seriously oh my god, i literally got chills reading this and I absolutely loved it

Chapter title: Falling on deaf ears

FIRST OF ALL

I'm actually happy that last week's attacks weren't enough to stop Big Mom... it honestly didn't feel like they were. They were really damned cool but it just didn't feel like yeah, okay. this is the fall of a yonko. this is how she gets defeated. So seeing here rise back up was amazing and exciting - like there's no mistaking it. she's a yonko

"I'll let you choose your fate, when this attack is done tickling me. You can either give me 50 years of your lifespans... or you can live on as my slaves"

She proceeds to steal from the souls of everybody around here, except-

It doesn't work on Kid or Law

"You think the last gasps of an old windbag scare me?" (Kid)

"Your death screeches are doing my ear in" (Law)

And then Law does the absolute coolest shit, which is R Room - basically enclosing Big Mom in a room with similar abilites to Corazon's devil fruit, where you can't hear Big Mom outside of the room (Like the man that saved me, he says 😭😭)

And Kid gives her another blast from his cannon

And she ends up falling down all the way to where Yamato and the bombs are- which is the part people complained about and at the same time the part that gave me chills

Sure, she ends up being bombed away from Kanjuro's flame and the bombs

Which leads to her defeat (boohoo ya'll wanted Kid to go 1v1 or them to do something else, shut up)

anyways

the reason this was still amazing and in my opinion an amazing way for her to go down was her speech before the explosions. chills

Are you listening, Roger? Why did you have to go and say all that? The whole world brought it!! "The Great Pirate Era"? Your time was up, so it didn't affect you! All those brats came flooding in, looking for their chance to shine... and you left us to deal with it. The least you could've done was tell us about the one piece you croaked!! It is real... right?
