Nikki was used to the pain that came with transforming. It was basically second nature for her at this point. It hurt, sure. But it was an integral part of who she was. She didn’t want to change a thing.
Nikki frowned, her arms crossing timidly over her middle. She let out a soft sigh. She felt something like this coming. It happened before with others that she had trusted enough to share her secret with. She always thought Max would be different. However, her anxious expression melted away the moment he reassured her that she was no stranger than he already thought she was and that it wouldn’t change how he felt towards her. “Really? You’re not gonna ditch me or something? It’s…happened before…” She, of course, was referring most recently to a certain group of Flower Scouts that had shunned her away upon learning her secret.
“Ditch you?” He knew that he came off as uncaring and jaded, but really that is just apart of how he shields himself. If he acts like he doesn’t care then maybe people would believe it and wouldn’t know that he is actually quite an emotional, empathetic and understanding young man. Unfortunately, the wall he has built around himself has been there so long that he sometimes believes that it’s unbreakable himself. Yet, hearing something like that from his close friend has touched him somewhere inside and even makes him feel a pang of guilt in the pit of his stomach. God, how is he going to respond to this without losing his dignity? “Yeah well, those assholes clearly don’t know a real agent of chaos when they see one.” Max stuffs his hands into his pocket and shifts his gaze from her. “Besides we’re...-” The boy takes a deep breath. “...friends...” He shrugs, feeling a little flustered. “So I’m not going to ditch you, idiot.” Max adds.
