Mark Passio: What On Earth Is Happening - Part 4
“If there are no guns in your country, that means slavery has been perfected there.” - Mark Passio #PoliceThePolice #PTP
When you start to respect yourself, you also start to recognize who doesn’t. Friendships watering down, clashing with people you used to get along with, discovering some relationships/dynamics aren’t for you— it’s all part of growing as a person and realizing what is and isn’t what you want or need. It doesn’t mean that there’s something wrong with you or that you’re doing the wrong thing: new habits, new boundaries and a newfound self-respect often require reevaluation.
This is your daily reminder to not be ashamed of making your life easy for yourself.
Cut your food into small pieces, make the font size 30 on your e book, use straws to drink, get a pen that’s comfortable to hold, take more naps, walk slowly, eat another cookie, buy velcro shoes, re-watch the part you couldn’t understand the first time, write things on your hands so you don’t forget it… whatever you want and/or need
Don’t let anyone tell you how you should be doing things. We don’t need to prove each other anything

Actually they should because there's more people there.
People love to defend minoritarianism on objectively majoritarian grounds. They’re like “wouldn’t it be unfair if a smaller portion of the country got to impose its will on everyone?”
Yes! It would! Minority-rule is quite unfair!
They’re just fucking idiots who think that size on a map is the same thing as portion of population, so the big empty majority of the US landmass (Alaska and everything between the Mississippi River and the Sierra Nevada mountains) should get more power than the majority of the population.
There’s a reason why ‘Gerrymandering’ is a legitimate word and why it was such a problem
IS still such a problem. It's still happening today.

In order to empathize with someone's experience you must be willing to believe them as they see it and not how you imagine their experience to be.

Constantly analyze yourself. Figure out why certain things upset you. Question your own motives. Understand your behavior. This creates a pathway for change. Acknowledging why you do the things you do is the first step in shifting out of toxic patterns.
I've decided that I already know what happens when I don't try. I want to see what happens when I do.

“Start now. Start where you are. Start with fear. Start with pain. Start with doubt. Start with hands shaking. Start with voice trembling but start. Start and don’t stop. Start where you are, with what you have. Just… start.”
