Should I go to a BTS concert, even though Iām a casual fan?
I have recently been getting more into Korean culture, Kpop included. I really enjoy BTSā music and am becoming a fan, though I would by no means call myself a super fanā¦yet.
I just saw that their Map of the Soul tour will be coming to my city in the US. I feel like because they are only coming to so many American cities that I should really take advantage of my luck and get tickets.
From what I understand, other types of concerts are fun, but their concerts (and Kpop concerts in general) are absolute experiences. Though Iāve been to lots of different kinds of shows, Iāve never actually been to any kind of concert, and I feel a Kpop concert would be super worth being there for because of just how much goes into their performances, fan interactions, etc. that youād never get anywhere else.
So main my question is, will I still enjoy it even though Iām a more casual fan, orā¦do I need to be a superfan to understand and enjoy whatās going on?
I dislike the loudness and strobingā(on stage, the lights in the audience should be fine)āat concerts, (and I like rock and metal music, which are even more an issue in that regard, if I were to go to one of those concerts), so thatās why I havenāt been to any. Iād bring my noise cancelling headphones to help with the noise level, but if their concerts are really only worth it for superfansā¦itās probably not worth the struggle with noise, crowds, etc. for me to go.
Alsoā¦how intense is the noise?? Obviously itās going to be intense because, well, itās a concertā¦but do most people find it bearable? Or loud enoughāwith regard to the show, the fans, or bothāthat they didnāt enjoy it?
I know their songs will be mostly in Korean, but will the whole show itself be pretty much entirely in Korean? Or is there some English in their American shows?
What are fans like at their concerts?āspecifically their fans in America. What do they act like in general? Are they welcoming to new fans? Whatās the demographicāis it mostly teenage girls? (I ask because teenage girlsā screams, are, wellā¦the highest and loudest. Of the shows Iāve been to, the one whose noise level bothered me most is the one at which the fans were pretty much all teenage girls)
Also, would getting the cheaper seats in the back dampen my experience? Is it really worth it to pay for something closer (again, for a more casual fan)? Would being in the back help with noise level in any way? Would it make it worse?
Any specific recommendations for songs I should listen to, things I should watch, know, or become familiar with beforehand if you think I should go?
ā¦Anything else you think I should be informed about before making my decision?
Itās a few months away, so Iāve got time to listen to more of their music, and potentially become a super fan, and join the ARMY before long XD
But I know their tickets will sell out fast so I should probably get them right away if I want to go, and I thought Iād check with some people who have maybe already been to their concerts to get more information and see if I should do that or not, according to my feelings now
@gillslikeafish Thank you so much for your long, candid response!! You donāt ever have to worry about messages being too long with me š
Itās really great to hear from a hardcore Stan!!
That makes sense. For the most part Iām just completely unsure as far as the noise goes. Iāve been to a show that had singing elements, screaming fans, and was at a concert venue, even though it wasnāt a true concert. Then, as long as i wore my noise canceling headphones I was pretty much fine. (Only issue was when the base would reverberate in the headphones and defeat their purpose). So due to that experience I have more hope that I could handle it with noise cancelling headphones, especially in the back (I was in the front at that other show), and of course in my heart I want that to work š But it is a true concert, and i have no way of testing the headphones with that level of noise other than just going, so it may be safer to assume I couldnāt handle it, even with headphonesā¦Plus, the crowd back then was nothing to a stadium crowd. At the same time, listening to the clips of BTS stadium concerts from the audience the screaming level actually seemed fine. Not sure if the video just wasnāt capturing itā¦
Oh man I was just learning about that, it seems insane š³ ā¦So even in general admission you gotta keep clicking like a madman to even have a chance to get tickets? That definitely is a deterrentā¦Would you say getting the free presale would help that process or not if I am fine with cheaper seats?
Also, whatās the current countdown on ticketmaster according to? Is it counting down to the first presale or the GA sale?
Thatās wonderful about the fans!! And Iām glad to hear itās not only teenage girls XD
Ahhh I see
Yeah Iāve definitely heard about the fan chants!! Is there any way to familiarize myself with the chants/songs thatāll be included in that beforehand? The chants are mostly just song lyrics right? And do they release the setlist? Iām good at memorizing so especially if Iāve got months to practice, as long as thereās a way to know what theyāll be (or some of them) beforehand I should be able to lock those down fairly well. And be willing to do so if it heightens the experience. I definitely think not knowing them could make it less fun.
Do those help with the noise level? When I was watching clips the chants seem to help with the screaming a lot because people would quiet to chant.
Yeah I donāt mind the songs being in Korean, itās Kpop after all!!
Ahhh thatās good to know!!
Ahh I see. Thatās so cool they love their fans!!
I can definitely see that.
Yes, the light sticks were actually a pull for me!! They seem really fun. I didnāt realize they were that expensive though š¬ Iād probably still make sure to get one though.
(Do you know if they are included in the presale kit thing? I wasnāt intending to buy one but I was wondering why it was so expensive.)
So do they just sell those at merch stands around? How hard is it to get one? Like are the lines before the show for light sticks insane?
Thatās good!!
Thatās awesome (haha!)!!
Cool!! I think I might like seeing the āoceanā more anyways. I donāt know, it is tough when theyāre dots in the distance too though XD
Again, no worries at all!! I love it when people give me long responses.
Yeah I feel like sometimes for me I can get really caught up in the experience and my enjoyment will block out all this stuff, and then other times the technical stuff kind of ruins the experience. Especially as a casual fan, Iām just trying to figure out which of the two this would be more likely to swingāhence why Iād hope a concert that is more of an experience like with Kpop would be more likely to sweep me away. And multiple times when I was watching clips of their songs in concert I was tearing up, which is a good sign.
Have you been to a stadium tour/show of theirs? At this point, after doing some more thinking and research, I think my main deterrent for going is actually the venue itself more than the concert elements. If youāve been to one Iāll probably have some more technical questions for you regarding that XD
Thank you so much again!! ā¤ļø
@i-prefer-the-term-antiheroā lmao itās good to hear you werenāt turned off by my long ass response.Ā
As far as the noise goes, fancams and videos donāt really do it justice. Itās really loud and the base is strong even in the upper levels. (I had floor seats for the last tour and omg the bass was so strong the whole ground was vibrating). So yeah, Iām not sure how much the noise-cancelling headphones would work but it could probably block out enough noise,,, but itās seriously super loud.
Ticketing, oh God, ticketing is a whole nightmare. There are three different sales going on for their US and Canada shows. (as of yesterday the only available option is the general ticketing tho :/)
1) Is the army membership presale. You sign up for this by using your order number from the army membership package, but like I said this is closed and in order to have done this one you would have needed an army membership (which are expensive as fuck *cries*) The code for this presale is given out today and the ticketing will start tomorrow at 3pm local time.
2) Second is the verified fan presale, but this one is also closed :/ this one was free to sign up and these presale tickets go up on Thursday 3 pm local time.
3) General ticket sales go up on Friday at 3pm local time.
There are a couple of things to note, Ticketmaster has recently changed the rules for purchasing tickets. You can only use one device, you can only be logged into one account, even if youāre using multiple accounts you canāt be using the same wifi, and you canāt use public wifi.
Thereās been talk on twitter about the possibility of dynamic pricing as well :/ overall just super stressful.
There are other ways to get tickets tho, a few days after ticketing is over, Ticketmaster usually puts up resale tickets. And there are also websites like stubhub or seatgeek that sell tickets too. I used seatgeak for one of the concerts and managed to get floor seats for a little over face value price. You have to be careful with these tho because thereās a possibility of them being fake.Ā
Iām gonna do a read more lol:
@gillslikeafish XD Iām actually usually the one saying that to people, so It really is the opposite of a problem with me!
I see. :O Oh myā¦.wow that is really really good to know. It definitely is the bass that bothers me the most so uhhh that might honestly be the deciding factorā¦If itās enough to vibrate the ground I probably canāt handle that. Did it still vibrate on even the softer songs? Are there any videos you could send me to that do a better job of doing it justice?
Have you ever sat in the nosebleeds for one of their concerts? Do they have extra speakers up there or is it just the noise from the stage? What exactly is the noise level like in the upper levels?ā¦like, i dont know, just any more detail would help me decide if itāll be too much when up there. And they play recorded music before the show even starts, right? Is that just as loud or louder than the concert itself? (Like would I be fairly okay walking through the lower levels finding my seat upstairs before it starts⦠or is it just a constant onslaught of noise before it even begins?) Thank you so much for informing me.
Seems like itā¦Ohhh I see!! Thatās super helpful, thank you so much.
Yeah, i heard that actuallyā¦Luckily thatās pretty much okay for me, but oh man, I hope people who are in school find a way to get ticketsā¦that really sucks
Dynamic pricing?
Ahh yeah. I originally found out that the concert was coming because all the fake websites were advertising on instagram XD But they seemed like crazy expensive on the other sites compared to the actual pricesā¦at least the ones i saw. Not sure if i looked at the sites you mentioned though. Whoa, you got well-priced floor seats that way?!?! Indeed. Is there any way to tell which sites sell fake tickets? Iām guessing there isnāt (thatās the whole point, of course) but if you have any information Iād be interested to hear it. Iāve gotten tickets to a show or two through those sites and it was always fine, but I always fear, and itād be nice to have a list of no-go sites or something XD
Ahh awesome!! Oh i see ;/ Do they usually play older songs or newer songs at their concerts? Or both? (I thought bands did tours for new albums and sang songs mostly from those new albums, with one or two classics sprinkled in, but i really have no clue.)
Thank you!!
That makes sense!! Thatās good at least
:D It seems that way!! Yeah i heard it was called a b0mbā¦why is that exactly? Just because it goes with the army name? Indeed XD
Ahh yeah I noticed thoseā¦.I dont think that would be worth it for me either ā¦But i was curious about them. Iāve paid for a couple VIP seatings but the most expensive one was like $200. ā¦$400 and you dont actually get to meet them?? thatās uhh..a lotā¦. Why exactly is it worth paying that much for the sound check? Is it because itās very few people and youāre essentially alone, compared to what it will be later? Do they run through the entire show during the sound check?
Ahh i see. Thatās good! Nice!!
Oh phew!! Oh thatās nice!! I see! Cute!! Can you get old ones for cheaper off of eBay and such?
Also, you said the merch section was closed off and outsideā¦Just to confirm, does that mean there arenāt any booths at all for their merch inside the stadium? If so, you can get merch before and after then? Which time is usually less crowded?
What kinds of other merch do they sell? I assume itās just like t shirts and such but Iām curious.
Thatās awesome!!!
:D Aww!! Wow, thatās so cool!! Thatās wonderful!!
:D thank you so much again <3
Letās see, well I asked you about the bass in the nosebleeds, which is currently my biggest questionā¦
Would it be weird to ask how easy it is to run to the bathroom during the show? Iāve never been a sports person, so Iāve only ever been to a couple of baseball and soccer games, and those were very casual, we could run to the bathroom and/or grab hot dogs or whatever while the game is going. With this, you could miss an entire song or more running to the bathroom or to get food, not to mention the fact that people are standing, jumping etc. making it tough to get by. And i canāt remember the last time i sat up in the nosebleeds so I dont remember how far you have to go for a bathroom breakā¦So yeah, how tough is that situation, if I may ask? Is there any sort of intermission? I assume there isnāt but itās worth an ask.
I guessā¦are people, even in the upper levels, mostly standing throughout the whole concert?
I thought I had more but now i canāt think of them XD Iāll let you know if I remember more
Hey @i-prefer-the-term-antiheroā ! The bass for the softer songs definitely wasnāt nearly as bad as the bass on their moreĀ āhype songs.ā They have speakers throughout the stadium, but in my experience, the vibration in the upper levels isnāt as powerful as the vibration in the floor sections. Videos tend to be very blurry and full of screaming and so the vibration and bass doesnāt really get heard :/Ā
The upper levels in my experience arenāt as bad as the noise in the lower levels. There are speakers up there but the closer you are to the stage, the louder it tends to be (this is just my experience tho, some other armys might think differently)Ā
Yup, they play music videos on the big screens before the concert starts, but theyāre nowhere near as loud as the music during the actual concerts, theyāll also show the mandatory safety videos and what to do if thereās an emergency Armys use this time to find their seats and get something to eat or drink before the show starts.Ā
There are entrances you takeĀ (if you get a ticket the entrance you have to take will be written on there) that will take you fairly close to where your seats are, so if you get a seat in the nosebleeds you wonāt have to worry about having to walk through the lower levels where itās louder.Ā
No problem! Some armys make jokes about not telling other fans or casual fans correct information so Iād like to help as much as possible and as accurately as I can!Ā
As of the membership presale yesterday, Weāve been informed that there will be no dynamic pricing, so you donāt have to worry about that!Ā
Read more again lmao:

Hey there @gillslikeafish!!
So sorry for the delay!! (I was planning on replying before last Friday and then after Friday passed I kind of lost momentum š And then when I started drafting a response I basically was just repeating āthatās good!! Ahh that makes senseā and didnāt really have any more questions XD Since I didnāt have much to say I was going to send you a short direct message to thank you, but realized I couldnāt do thatā¦so here we areā¦)
From the bottom of my heart, thank you so so so SO much for all you help. Iāve made a couple posts like this in the past but never have I had someone give me such a wonderfully detailed response and I cannot thank you enough for all your help. (I was so astounded when I saw you gave me pictures of the merch, you really went the extra mile to help me š) As a detailed person who likes to give long responses myself, I always appreciate it when someone does that for me, all the more when itās to give me actual information for something like this. So truly, thank you so very much
Iāll definitely be sure to ask you if any more questions come up!!
P.S. Can I ask what some of your favorite BTS songs are?
@i-prefer-the-term-antiheroā Iām glad I was able to be of help! It means a lot to me that my super long responses didnāt turn you away. I, and many other armys, tend to be really long-winded when it comes to talking about the boys that it sometimes turns people away, but it comes from a good place, weāre just excited to talk about them!Ā
Of course! Some of my favorite songs are:

Hey!! Iām so sorry, I forgot to respond!!!
You were!! :D <3 Iām sorry to hear that sometimes turns people away. Like I said, I found it extremely helpful and refreshing. And It only makes sense you and other armies are excited to talk about the boys!! I feel like anyone would be long winded about things theyāre excited about.
Thank you so much for the songs!! Iāll copy your list and make sure I put it somewhere more easily accessible XD
And itās cool you put them in laid back vs hype categories!! Thats definitely something I really love about their songs too. Theyāre so diverse with their music. I feel like everyone could find a BTS song they liked!!
Ahh thank you so much!!
Itās no problem at all! Iām always glad to help anyone curious about them if you have any more questions about the concert or just general info about the comeback and the boys feel free to ask me and Iāll answer the best I can.Ā
I love that too. The variety of genres they implement into their songs is really cool and I agree, thereās probably at least 1 BTS song that people would enjoy! Hope you like some of the ones I listed lol.
If you have any more questions, ask and Iāll do my best to answer! If you end up choosing to go to one of there shows, I hope you have fun!
@i-prefer-the-term-antihero idk if youāre still curious about this, but I found a few clips and put them together from last tour. (Pls mind my horrendous screaming and bad attempts at singing along lol)
Keep in mind this is when I had floor seats so everything is much louder. Like I mentioned cameras donāt really capture all of the sound so the audio is really bleary.
This video is when the rapline performed Outro: Tear and in my opinion this is when the bass was the harshest, in the video you can hear it booming so loud the boyās voices canāt even be heard at times. From what others tell me who went to the same show but werenāt on the floor like I was, they said that it wasnāt bad and that the bass wasnāt as strong from where they were and also that they could hear the boys better.
I asked some others whoāve had floor seats as well and the consensus is the same, itās harder to hear the fanchants from the floor sections and itās harder to hear the boys during bass heavy tracks like the one in the video.
If youāre still interested in going, taken into account your dislike of heavy bass and that youāre a casual fan, seats that are further away are the safest option.
I think you could see in the video, but there are really big screens that show the boys too so youād still get a good view of them while performing, maybe even better, Iāve heard that some people who had barricade seats (the very very first row) couldnāt even see the boys because of how high the stage was! I had some difficulty too because even tho I wasnāt at the very front Iām still short lmao.
Yeah,,, this was just in case you were still interested!
Ahhhh this is very helpful, thank you!! This definitely captures the intensity of the bass better than many other videos. Though I can also definitely see better here, keeping in mind how you told me the bass felt, how video really canāt capture what it feels like to be there.
This definitely supports the argument for seats further back in multiple ways!! And thatās crazy some people in the front row couldnāt even see them...
Thank you again so much for all your help!!
No problem! Glad that I could be of some help!

I see. :O Oh my....wow that is really really good to know. It definitely is the bass that bothers me the most so uhhh that might honestly be the deciding factor...If itās enough to vibrate the ground I probably canāt handle that. Did it still vibrate on even the softer songs? Are there any videos you could send me to that do a better job of doing it justice?
Have you ever sat in the nosebleeds for one of their concerts? Do they have extra speakers up there or is it just the noise from the stage? What exactly is the noise level like in the upper levels?...like, i dont know, just any more detail would help me decide if itāll be too much when up there. And they play recorded music before the show even starts, right? Is that just as loud or louder than the concert itself? (Like would I be fairly okay walking through the lower levels finding my seat upstairs before it starts... or is it just a constant onslaught of noise before it even begins?) Thank you so much for informing me.
Seems like it...Ohhh I see!! Thatās super helpful, thank you so much.
Yeah, i heard that actually...Luckily thatās pretty much okay for me, but oh man, I hope people who are in school find a way to get tickets...that really sucks
Dynamic pricing?
Ahh yeah. I originally found out that the concert was coming because all the fake websites were advertising on instagram XD But they seemed like crazy expensive on the other sites compared to the actual prices...at least the ones i saw. Not sure if i looked at the sites you mentioned though. Whoa, you got well-priced floor seats that way?!?! Indeed. Is there any way to tell which sites sell fake tickets? Iām guessing there isn't (thatās the whole point, of course) but if you have any information Iād be interested to hear it.
Yeah i heard it was called a b0mb...why is that exactly? Just because it goes with the army name? Indeed XD
Ahh yeah I noticed those....I dont think that would be worth it for me either ...But i was curious about them. Iāve paid for a couple VIP seatings but the most expensive one was like $200. ...$400 and you dont actually get to meet them?? thatās uhh..a lot....
Also, you said the merch section was closed off and outside...Just to confirm, does that mean there aren't any booths at all for their merch inside the stadium? If so, you can get merch before and after then? Which time is usually less crowded?
What kinds of other merch do they sell? I assume itās just like t shirts and such but Iām curious.
Thatās awesome!!!
:D Aww!! Wow, thatās so cool!! Thatās wonderful!!
:D thank you so much again <3
Letās see, well I asked you about the bass in the nosebleeds, which is currently my biggest question...
And i canāt remember the last time i sat up in the nosebleeds so I dont remember how far you have to go for a bathroom break...So yeah, how tough is that situation, if I may ask? Is there any sort of intermission? I assume there isn't but itās worth an ask.
I guess...are people, even in the upper levels, mostly standing throughout the whole concert?
I thought I had more but now i can't think of them XD Iāll let you know if I remember more
Hey @i-prefer-the-term-antiheroā !

Hey there @gillslikeafish!!
So sorry for the delay!! (I was planning on replying before last Friday and then after Friday passed I kind of lost momentum š And then when I started drafting a response I basically was just repeating āthatās good!! Ahh that makes senseā and didnāt really have any more questions XD Since I didnāt have much to say I was going to send you a short direct message to thank you, but realized I couldnāt do that...so here we are...)
I got tickets to see BTS at MetLife Iām so happy š„ŗ
