2011 - GoS January Project - Gender Bender and Bodyshapes

All 4 meshes have fat and pregnancy morphs (I've not seen the latter morphs in game myself yet). Mesh parts by Aikea (af top, am kilt) and Gelydh (wedges). Textures are by Aikea and Gelydh.

The bottom only kilts come in pinstripe (bottom picture, right), leather (top picture, left), black (bottom picture, left) and green (top picture, right). The full body comes in sweater (black kilt with a red sweater), leather, pinstripe and green; pinstripe and sweater are the same as the male ones, the green one had a top added, and the leather one was redone using the male bottom only kilt texture (Due to me using the male bottom only version to make my conversions with and it having slightly different mapping to the male full body one).

Thanks to Mr Sullivan for offering to get pictures originally, and to Trapping for getting these wonderful pictures when Mr Sullivan ran out of time (as I wanted to upload these as part of this month's project)

Reordering Maxis outfits in CAS/BS

Elsimer asked me about this and I said I’d make this tutorial in English as well. Here it is!

1. Open the game → Create a Sim (CAS) in debug mode and hover the cursor over: (1) the outfit(s) you want to move and (2) a reference outfit (the one you want the first one(s) to appear next to). From the Frag Key, write down the third block of numbers for each outfit.

2. In SimPE, open the file globalcatbin.bundle.package for the expansion that contains your outfit(s). This file is located in Program Files/EA Games/The Sims 2 [EP/SP]/TSData/Res/Catalog/Bins.

3. Open Window/Filter Resources (if you don’t have it enabled by default) and filter by instance for each number you wrote down. For each outfit, there will be two resources: binary index (BINX) and 3D ID Rereferencing File (3IDR).

4. Select both resources (BINX and 3IDR) for each outfit and right-click extract. Save each pair of resources into its own folder named for that outfit and close globalcatbin.bundle.

5. Restart SimPE (optional but recommended after opening large files, depending on your version) and create a new package file and right-click import the BINX + 3IDR pairs for the outfit(s) you want to move.

6. Add the BINX + 3IDR of your reference outfit to the same package. If you do this after saving, you’ll be able to distinguish the outfits you want to move from the reference one, because the outfit added after saving will appear in italics.

7. Copy the sortindex and collection from the reference outfit:

7.1. Open the reference BINX and copy its sortindex. Open the target BINX and set its sortindex to the same value.

7.2. In the reference 3IDR, select the collection entry. Then open the target 3IDR, right-click in an empty area and select Add (this adds the last selected item). Move the newly added collection entry into the position of the old one and delete the old collection entry.

8. Delete the reference outfit’s BINX and 3IDR and save. Place your package in the same folder as globalcatbin.bundle and name it so it loads after it (e.g. start filename with z).

9. Enjoy! And share so others don’t have to go through your pain themselves 🥲

Fully Seamless Versions of Shasta Pirate Wood Textures

While making my Secret Santa Present for @jellymeduza, I realised that @shastakiss Pirate Wood textures aren't fully seamless. The long sides tile perfectly if you put them next to each other, but the short sides look like this:

In game it was mostly visible with my horizontal Niche recolors. After putting them through GIMPs "Tile Seamless"-filter they now tile perfectly.

I did it for the regular textures and the version with the horizontal grain I made. Also included are 512x512 versions.

I also made, a bit later than the rest, true seamless versions of the Pirate Color texture as they were just a bit off in terms of vertical seamless except for the "Kelp"-texture which had a visible white stripe at the bottom. The Color texture come in horizontal and vertical in 256x256 and 256x512.

I put them up for download in case somebody else want them too.

Sims 2 Default Object Database (updated)

So, I’ve been working on this for…. oh god. probably months on and off. I wanted it to be more “complete” before I actually ~released~ it to the public, but my life has gotten a bit busy and I don’t want to wait forever since a few people have mentioned an interest in other posts I’ve seen.

Anyways, as we all know, the Original Default Database has existed for years and years. But I think a few of us have noticed that it isn’t exactly updated anymore. People leave the community, pages like dreamwidth get abandoned, etc.

So this was my personal solve to this.

Much like the Sims 2 Hair Database, this is a Google Sheets version of the default database. It is by and far still missing a ton of stuff. I am only one person. BUT much like the hair database, the plus with this is, that anyone can add or edit things on this version, so it’s less likely to get abandoned if I get to busy and ghost yall.

Much like the Hair Database, there is a page on the end that’s a “to-do list” of sites I know have defaults but I haven’t gotten to yet, as well as each page being set up based on catagory in the build/buy catalogue. There is also a page that’s labeled “non-catalogue” for things like food, handhelds, career objects, and other such things.

Anyways, feel free to DM me if you have questions. (Or for some ungodly reason want to waste your time helping me fill it out lol.)

TS2 Object Default Database (Sheets)

This is my response to this post by @goatskickin - a second version. That's the best way to desaturate hair texture or other stuff with alpha transparency ( thanks @paluding).

Desaturate or Hue/Saturation often makes textures crunchy.

You'll get best results if you create plain black layer and set blend mode to Color. Adjust Opacity as needed. In case of alpha stuff you also need to create Clipping mask.

When doing color actions on hair textures (or anything else) - if Hue/Saturation adjustment layer step does -83 Saturation (for example), instead you can do what I described above and set black layer Opacity to 83%.

Also, use SimPE to build textures as DXT5, do not rely on Bodyshop 'cuz it will always f*ck it up.

I decided to re-do this tut and make it more alpha-hair friendly - because in some cases it could cause color bleeding through the most transparent parts, as demonstrated in the pic above 🙈

Hey guys, my pc reset and I lost all of my (very old) cc. I'm trying to find them again and I hope you can help. I'm looking for the set of Pinketamine's skins (the MPL set in Trapping's colours), and the other one is the 14 recolors of Mouseyblue's Dust Alien Eyes by Nella (I can't find the version that was custom only - I can currently find the geneticized or townified versions). Thank you for the help!

I can only find pictures of the Pinketamine skin and few other WCIF for it but no reuploads as far as I can see. All the files from Pinketamine I’ve found are already in this blog here but sadly this skin set is not one of them as far as I remember. Pooklet has the original set of these skins here, it’s the one called “my poor lover” if that helps though? Here’s swatch of the set in case someone happens to have it and is willing to reupload:

The only recolors of Mouseyblue’s Dust alien eyes I can find are these two: 1/2, it doesn’t look like they offer custom version of those but what’s wrong with geneticized version anyway? They won’t pop up on random sims like townified eyes do, they’ve simply been given genetic value so that they’re more/less likely to pop up when two sims wearing them have children, with custom eyes if both parents have custom eyes it’s 50/50 chance which one will be inherited and if only one has custom eyes and other has for example default eyes then the custom eyes will always be passed down. But if you absolutely want them as custom eyes, here’s tutorial for how to make them geneticized & townified, doing the opposite = change line “genetic” back to 0, if you also don’t want them townified then set “flags” back to 0x00000008, that’s all you need to do. :)

A little late to the party here, but I came across this post looking for these skins and was a bit disappointed (I wanted them for an alien neighbourhood and thought I had deleted them completely). However I then decided to check all the really old sims files on my computer and found most (if not all?) of the Pinketamine MPL skin recolours - both pooklet and trapping ones.

What's that "Merge" button for?

'Merge' button allows you to quickly add / replace only a part of material properties inside recolour package.

Export the settings (.xml file) from recolour A

Open .xml file with text editor like Notepad

Locate and remove the lines you don't want to replace / add to recolour B, for example: remove base texture name if you don't want to link clothing recolour B to texture resource used by clothing recolour A*

Open recolour B and hit Merge to open pop-up window. Pick the edited xml and import the settings. Remember to Commit and save.

*note: TS2 Bodyshop recolours like clothing, accessories, hair are linked to a specific texture only with TXMT Properties. In case of object recolours you also need to add / edit texture name inside File List tab.

I use Merge method to link a batch of clothing recolours to the same normal map texture included with the mesh file.

So uh hello,

I used to upload sims 2 stuff back in the day (as oph3lia on GoS and dreamwidth/livejournal) and haven't uploaded anything since around 2016 (I think, it might be longer).

Anyway since the plague of 2020, I've started making stuff again but mainly for myself. I've been reluctant to upload anything due to being burnt out on doing so, and because my mental health is a dumpster fire (primarily anxiety and depression but I also have trauma from my last job and I'm probably some flavour of neurodivergent).

Now the backstory is over, I just felt like sharing some WIPs - pictures are of: a default for that asymmetrical TF dress using Io's bow shoes, Io's flipper skirt with Io's docs for both TF and AF (as custom and a default), and a bunch of nude bottoms - an edit of Gothplague's docs, Io's docs, the boots from uni, Pineappleforest's suede shoes (child version here is using Rudhira's child conversion from their kids skirt default) and finally the Gothplague doc edit for child.

The nude bottoms are all CF-EF except the uni boots, TTS boots and Io's docs and have 10 different bottoms on them (pants, socks, various tights, stockings, leggings and jeans textures), plus 3 Aikea Guinea textures for the boot versions, and texture referenced whereever possible. I've also put them on bottom only meshes with flats, vans, h&m chucks/sneakers and TTS boots.

Help needed - mapping fix for “Centerpieces Coffee Table”

Would a kind soul be willing to fix the mapping on this mesh for me? 🥺 

I prepared a set of cluedo recolors but the wood fiber lines are all wonky… Not good…

Since I did this like a year ago and never uploaded it (I’m making pirate wood defaults, or was then anyway, still haven’t finished lol).

Just uploaded the remap of the table only (it’s basically just a straight left-right wood grain now, I’ve included the mapping guide and the very middle part is the swirly bits so they can be recoloured separately to be made metal for example).

In my continued effort to clean out the backlog of unfinished projects I had pending, here is one that was finished and only needed a preview: 

Meshy’s recolors of Sherahbim’s Maiden gown pasted onto Fated-Oph3lia’s TF mesh!

Why the need for this, you ask? Well, Meshy’s colors were on an old mesh by (I think?) Feenwald which I wasn’t aware of, as the only TF mesh of the Maiden gown I knew was Ophelia’s. Upon closer examination of the two meshes I concluded that Ophelia’s had morphs as well as a slightly lower polycount (2088 polys as opposed to the other mesh which was 2116 polys), so I copy-pasted some of my fave colors from Meshy over to it. It was mostly meant for personal use, but maybe someone else will like it as well. :)

Texture repositoring

Hello!

I've seen a few mentions recently of texture repository techniques but noticed no one had mentioned this and it makes repo-ing super quick.

A quick caveat, if your mesh has bump maps and you want multiple files to use one bump map, you'll have to manually edit it still.

This method retains all of the tweaks to the original txmt, including removing bump maps, adding them, deleting the texture completely or making layers alpha editable.

Firstly, open the package you want to use as the main texture (the one that everything else will be pulling its texture from).

Select the Material Definitions tab.

Click on the txmt for texture (if you have multiple groups, you'll have to do this group by group).

Hit the export button and give the file a name that makes sense (don't be me and sometimes just chuck in random letters 'cos you'll kick yourself later lol).

Now open the file you want to be linked/repo'd to the main file.

Again select the Material Definitions tab.

Click on the txmt as above.

This time hit the import button and navigate to the exported txmt you saved above.

Click commit so the changes take.

Finally select the Texture Image tab and delete the textures from the file.

After that, save the file and move onto the next for however many you need to share the same texture.

This also works for blank textures aka null groups (export from one and import into all the other recolours of the same mesh) and if a group of recolours all share the same shoe texture for example.

Most of the credit for this goes to Skell as this technique is mentioned in one of their tutorials originally that is buried on the internet somewhere. It took me a few attempts to figure it out as I kept using the familiar extract/replace options which don't work as well for this and figured putting this out there for clarity wouldn't hurt.

Maybe you've noticed that sometimes see-through textures in the game have lighter edges, even if the PNG looked fine?

That's because PNG format doesn't support true transparency channel. There is always a background, even if you can't see it. If the background is white, the edges can pick up the colour.

I'll demonstrate how I do this in Photoshop (20.0.0) At the end there's a screenshot showing how to do it in GIMP. This tutorial contains a few notes that apply to both methods.

And by "colour it" I meant: cover it with darker colours, sort-of matching the edges. If you don't have much time, you could just bucket-paint it all brown or something - not perfect, but better than white background.
