i am so absolutely utterly scared that my insane grandfather in his 80s who runs miles every morning is going to leave me a bird in his will and i am especially scared he is going to leave me a large cockatoo named "captain hook". hook has been trying to make me his child bride since i was like 6 years old and every time i see him again which has only been a couple times with decades in between hook is like "you. it's always been you. ever since you were born i've known we were meant to be" captain hook you are a bird and i am a LESBIAN and i don't WANT an eternal sentinel captain HOOK!!!!!!!

Paraphilias are attraction OR arousal. The hyperfocus from the psych field and kink spaces on sexual orientations is a result of amatonormativity.

There's not really much to go over, so I'm unsure what to say. If a person says they're romantically interested in animals, what are they? A romantic zoophile.

If an adult has queerplatonic attraction towards children, what are they? A queerplatonic MAP.

If a person likes bondage and spanking for sensual purposes rather than sexual ones, what is that? BDSM.

I don't really know what else to say on the matter. The assumption that paraphilias are sexual by nature is just classic amatonormativity. Its like when people hear the term "lesbian" and think that means "sexual attraction to women", when it could instead be referring to romantic attraction or nonrose attraction.

essentially speaking over and forcing the word "deformed" onto people like me who don't want it. "deformed" does not have the same connotations as disabled. it does not have the same connotations as narcissist. speaking as someone who has npd. the word "deformity/deformed" is inherently pathologizing and dehumanizing. i am not deformed. i am physically disabled and intersex.

Basically, increased co2 concentration in the air makes plants make more carbohydrates, but not take in more nutrients from the soil, so they grow faster but have a lower density of vitamins and minerals. Plus, they're "breathing" more efficiently and actually using slightly less water, so they're taking in even fewer nutrients. And the faster growth can't make up for the rates of damage due to climate instability (droughts, floods, extreme heat etc).

The research shows approximately a 3% drop in nutrient density since the 1980s, particularly in carbohydrate heavy crops (like most starchy staple foods), but so many people around the globe depend on those crops for over half their diet that it's very easy for them to fall into malnutrition without access to more expensive shit like enriched products, supplements, and even just fruits and vegetables. Like all the effects of the climate crisis, this impacts those least responsible first.

As my main income, I work with fish in a specialty pet store that's privately owned (so I'm allowed to say no and be stern to customers when it's needed).

You learn really quickly that not only do fish have individual personalities and emotions but they also have memories and recognize people! There are certain fish who will only come out for me and hide for everyone else. The pufferfish spits at me because she gets pissy that I haven't fed her. The flowerhorn bites everyone but me and my coworker when we clean his tank. I trained a fire eel to come up and eat directly out of my hand.

Fish are beautiful complex creatures and I thank the universe everyday that I get to work in a place where I'm encouraged to tell animal abusers to fuck right off.

So, like, fun fact: all of us, down to nearly the very base of animal tree of life, basically have the same neurotransmitters for motivation/drive. We all seem to have comparable pain receptors and react to opioids (pain reduction)

(Well, invertebrates use octopamine instead of noradrenaline, but supposedly that is very similar.)

And by almost the entire tree of life I do mean all of us: mammals, fish, bugs, jellyfish, POSSIBLY sponges (it is a little unclear if someone checked)
