PROVING THAT OUR REACH DOES NOT EXCEED OUR GRASP
July 16, 2025 - Piraeus dockworkers declare it loud and clear: We will not stain our hands with the blood of the peoples!
Dockworkers and their Union ENEDEP in Cosco in Piraeus Port refuse the unloading of the deadly cargo aboard the ship Cosco Shipping Pisces bound for Israel to be used for the ongoing massacre of the Palestinian people. [video]
Every time I read fandom posts about fictional characters 'deserving' things I'm struck by how culturally Christian ya'll are without realizing it
Your critical analysis skills won't improve until you understand that characters are tools in a story and applying real life morality to them does not lead to good writing. Does a villain 'deserve' redemption? Who cares? I want to know if it would support the story's message. Does a tragic character 'deserve' better? That doesn't matter. Did their death serve as a satisfying end to their arc? Did it impact the greater narrative in a positive way?
“we need more weird queers!” you guys can barely handle a hairy woman
and frankly? some of you struggle with hairy men.
The idea of listening to no black music is bizarre to me. Even if it's not rap like no earth wind and fire? No reggae? No moonstomp? No ska? No classic jazz? No R and B? No disco??? No skindred? No jungle? No even like metal bands with a few black members? No gospel? Not even stuff like alors en dance? No blues music? No mo town? No jazz of any kind? No big band? No soul music? Not even a little James Brown?
not even yola or tanner adell or brittney spencer or tracy chapman or india.arie or chapel hart or the carolina chocolate drops or rhiannon giddens????
Or…

“Covid game me narcolepsy” no you fucking pervert it didn’t. You’re just a weirdo with a gross fetish. Covid didn’t make you suddenly want to fuck dead people. Keep that shit to yourself you gods damned weirdo
I have type 2 Narcolepsy. Studies have shown that serious viral infections can cause people to develop Narcolepsy if they are already genetically susceptible to having it. This includes covid. That is what happened to me.
You on the other hand might want to google the difference between Narcolepsy and Necrophilia….
Yall, I can’t believe that I have to do this, but I am going to say this in as clearly as possible
The anon was very confused.
I have Narcolepsy, which is a sleep disorder. Narcolepsy has nothing to do with Necrophilia. I am not into necrophilia.
I didn’t realize that one said “necropolises.” That’s actually so funny. I think that one must have been a joke
Keep scrolling, there's nothing fishy going on here
The very best thing about The Phantom of the Opera is that it shows us a possibly supernatural occurrence, then gives us a natural explanation that is infinitely crazier than the supernatural one would have been.
What if there was a ghost in the opera house that was killing people?
Requires you to accept the existence of ghosts, but otherwise is a straightforward story.
What if the chief contractor who built the opera house was a deformed circus freak who used his experience building palaces and torture chambers for sultans to keep building secret passageways and torture chambers in the basement when construction halted during the Franco-Prussian War, and then kept living down there working on an opera and killing and blackmailing people who crossed him and also training a pretty opera singer that he wants to marry?
There is nothing in the world that could have prepared me to expect even half of that.
@o-lei-o-lai-o-lord you are so right about this
Honestly, this explains so much about Christine's perspective too when you think about it.
My father sent me a guardian angel from Heaven to guide and comfort me in his absence: "Okay, not something that happens every day, but that is what guardian angels are supposed to do and Dad did indicate something like this would happen."
A hideously disfigured renaissance man, having all the natural skills and education to build himself a secret villain lair in a public building, extort enormous amounts of money from its management, and convince everyone he's a ghost, has developed a massive crush on me and has decided to express that through manipulation, kidnapping, and murder: "I cannot even begin to tell you how much this was not on my Bingo card."
Any take on Luke as just a normal kid whining about freedom should probably account for the fact that he lives on a lawless desert planet controlled by gangsters who kept his father and grandmother as slaves
#like … every time i see a post about how much easier he has it than leia i’m #he absolutely does in some ways #but also leia’s family are wealthy and powerful while luke’s are eking out water from the air
This post is nearly ten years old and I still think about this, honestly. Luke has no consciousness of the dangers and pressures in Leia’s life when he’s playing with his toy starship; she’s already had to become what he can only vaguely dream of. But she’s also never had to consider “where is tomorrow’s food and water coming from” to anything like the degree that Luke, Owen, and Beru do every day. Luke and Leia both make sure they’re armed when they leave home because their environments are so dangerous, in completely different ways.
It really is possible to talk about the ways Leia has been forced to grow up and Luke has been allowed to remain functionally a boy, without dismissing pretty much everything we ever find out about Tatooine and the Skywalkers, or the drastic differences in their opportunities and access to material luxuries. I promise, she’s a good enough character to stand on her own without misrepresenting Luke’s circumstances to prop her up.
#luke simultaneously hates the empire AND is desperate to join the imperial academy because it’s his only way out. he can’t afford to leave#not in a danger sense in a material sense. he doesn’t have the resources or the money to ever leave that world—#a world in which his caring gruff uncle is his uncle (and very much not his father) because owen’s father bought luke’s grandmother#to free/marry her—shmi’s freedom and shmi’s marriage to cliegg are inextricably tied together. she’s described just as a good wife—#luke undoubtedly sees her grave (necessary bc she got abducted and tortured to death!) every day as he does his chores so they can. survive#i’m not saying anh luke is actually mature and overtly haunted bc of this—just that fandom seems a lot more comfortable#considering the ways in which luke is sheltered from basic realities of leia’s life than the ways the reverse is also true.#i actually think sw is not completely oblivious and careless about this either. leia’s class really does inform almost everything about her#it’s not super deep about it but it’s there. think of her first kneejerk reaction to chewbacca and how her reactions to han’s misogyny#often invoke class in some way—esp earlier on (and no it’s not just banter). like… i love her and this is actually part of why.#she’s not just strong female character™; her personality is actually informed by both the horrors and luxuries of the life she’s led

Part of the problem is that Harris is a woman. This simple fact would not have really affected things in most democracies, but the American electorate grapples with a particular brand of cultural misogyny that leads them to doubt any woman in positions of power. It’s not just out-and-out woman haters, it’s a whole web of unconscious biases that may be held across the entire political spectrum.
Qualified, competent, and experienced women like Harris and Clinton before her should not be able to lose to an odious cretin like Trump. That would be the case if they were handled with any honesty by the media and the voter base. But because they are women, they were put under the microscope for every little thing they said and did. Harris couldn’t even so much as bark a laugh without people thinking it was weird, and that’s saying nothing of the remarkably large amount of people concerned about their being ‘too emotional’, in apparent ignorance of the man who makes stroppy toddlers look like monks who have undertaken vows of silence.
And that’s before we get to policy. On a policy level, Harris and Clinton were both objectively superior to anything Trump could ever dribble out of the secondary anal cavity he calls a mouth. But as I said above, they were endlessly scrutinised over everything, relevant and otherwise. Trump was allowed to say whatever the fuck he wanted, Harris couldn’t so much as employ nuance without getting hounded from both sides of the aisle.
Welp. Here we are. The world is objectively worse off in just about every metric because the American electorate chose to vote for a man who had only a few years previously already demonstrated on a constant basis his utter incompetence and generally repulsive nature.
And I get the feeling that the next woman to try shooting for the White House will face the exact same fucking pushback. Many countries around the world have voted for women as their national leaders. Some have been good, some have been bad, but what matters is that they were indeed voted for. Will America ever get past this seemingly insignificant hurdle?
the rental listing says wheelchair accessible
...but they mean only inside the leasing office or lobby.
...but they mean only if enough people are around to carry you over a barrier. all the staff and residents are like a family, so you should let them touch you every single time you want to go in or out!
...but you have to call someone to unlock something in the accessible route every single time, and they can take hours to respond, even if you have groceries or need to rush back to take medicine or go to the bathroom.
...but the ramps are too steep for a solo manual wheelchair.
...but the nearby sidewalks do not connect to anything helpful and just suddenly stop. further progress towards a store in a wheelchair would have to be in the street.
...but they mean from the sidewalk to the unit, and not the whole way from the parking lot to the unit.
...but there are no wheelchair accessible parking spots left.
...but the only parking spots with enough room for a wheelchair are always taken by people who "will only be a few minutes, lighten up."
...but they mean after the steps at the entryway. but there are only a few!
...but the one elevator breaks down regularly and takes forever to fix.
...but the one elevator breaks down regularly and is quick to fix but maintenance takes forever to get to it.
...but the power to the elevator regularly goes out for hours to days, so management insists the elevator never breaks down. because technically, nothing broke!
...but they mean after the flight of stairs into the unit.
...but so much shit is kept in the hallways that wheelchairs can rarely pass through, and management refuses to do anything about it.
...but they mean to the unit not once inside the unit, because the inside of the rental itself is too small for a wheelchair to navigate ± has stairs with no ramps or elevators.
...but the counters, sinks, showerheads are all at standard standing heights and the water fixtures are not adjustable enough. making it extremely difficult for someone to even wash their hands from a wheelchair, let alone adjust the shower from a seated position.
...but the vents are shared between units and are full of mold.
...but the wheelchair accessible unit has very little sound isolation and very loud upstairs neighbors who antagonize disabled people on purpose, which was why the last person moved out.
...but none of the available units are wheelchair accessible.
...but wheelchair accessibility is the only type of accessibility they are willing to accommodate.
...but management MUST use fragranced cleaning supplies in every shared area because they need everything to smell. and their need is much more important than how much I do not want to have completely optional and potentially life-threatening allergic reactions.
...but nobody in management or maintenance is willing to wash their hands, take their shoes off, ± wear a mask.
...but management is only looking for residents who have a certain open, community-focused vibe. and by that they mean they hate anyone who wears a mask.
...but management blows up about religion, race, gender, politics, sexuality, and anyone they perceive to be the enemy. and they perceive a lot of people to be the enemy.
...but management treats visibly disabled people like subhuman dogshit, is disproportionately hostile about any of their requests, and thinks they should be eternally grateful for just being allowed to live.

In case anyone finds it helpful because mobility aids are horrifically expensive and inaccessible…
And for those people who have access to mobility devices but might benefit from a second chair they can abuse without risking expensive damage…
Erik Kondo has made a website, Open Source Innovations, that details plans for DIY wheelchairs. These wheelchairs can be made from common materials like wood, plastic, and pvc. They are lightweight and can be custom fit to the user allowing from the same degree of movement you would get from a custom chair. And they are durable and easily repairable. (he has been stress testing his latest design by dropping it down stairs, dropping it out of a car, launching it across a driveway, and throwing it off a deck). Its 12lbs and I think he said its was in the $200 ish range for parts.
He also is working on cheap, open source, accessible designs for beach chairs, off road chairs, motorized attachments (think smart drive), and so on. Plus he skateboards in his wheelchair. Cool dude, helpful info, pass it on.
It's incredibly sad people have to resort to this, but it's a damn good resource. Use it. Spread awareness. Maybe one day people with physical disabilities won't need DIYs like this. But until then, reblog and share.
This is Accessibility!
That's so amazing! It is unfortunate that so many people will need this, but very very cool that it exists
That other link seems to be broken.
