Brief Analysis about Gwen Stacy
GWEN STACY MY LOVEEEEEEEE
I was annotating a text for my english exam next week while listening to the official spider-verse playlist and BOOM Gwen Stacy character trait plopped into my mind. So ofc we gon talk about that.
So for this analysis (bear with me) we are gonna stick to the stereotypes, set by society, for boys and girls.
Short list of what Stereotypes are gonna be important:
representative colour: pink
seen as "normal" when they are punks
representative colour: blue
Fcats about Gwen to rememebr for this analysis:
She has a trans flag above her bedroom door
she did/does ballet and she plays the drumms
she has short hair on one side and shoulder long hair on her other side
her universe is mostly colours fading into other colours.
it also doesn't have any sharp outlining -> edges are soft, everytrhing is melting into each other.
When her trans flag with the description "protect trans kids" was firstly shown in the movie, many theories have plopped up. Some of the most famous were, that she is transgender, a family member is transgender or an acquaintance is trans. However, this analysis counts to the theory of her being trans.
Like already mentioned in what we should remember, Gwen has short hair on one side and long hair on the other, which is mixing stereotypes of both men and women.
Gwen did, or still does, Ballet, since she has pointy shoes on her spider-woman/ghost-spider suit and she integrates ballet forms into her fighting style. However she also is a drummer and is a punk.
Another thing that i noticed that, when in her universe, Gwen colours (lighting, or background colour) is most of the time pink or blue, or in this specific frame, she is coloured in the transgender flag.
Also at the start of the movie, we see Gwen constantly alone. She says it's because she doesn't want new friends, she can't go through the same pain she did when she lost Peter, which, of course, is true, however it could also be that she fears that only Peter would ever accept her for who she is and she's scared to drive people off by telling them who she really is. However, this point is just a thought on the side.
Gwen mixes both gender roles. Combining this with the opening sequences (especially the one where she walked through a crowd trying to make herself smaller) it suggests, that she is not comfortable with herself. She doesn't know if she's a guy or a girl and I can imagine her "punk side" and "ballerina side" being at constant war with each other, making her life harder than it already is with being Ghost-Spider/Spider-Woman. I also imagine her tumult inside of her, also impact her decision making, but that's also just another side thought.

A/N: HIIIIII i rlly hope you like this analysis. Also in my eyes its done pretty rushed and not with a structured layout whatsoever and i do hope i'm getting my point across and you understand what i'm trying to say (especially the conlcusion was hard for me to write for some reason). Of course, this is just an analysis and does not mean anything nor is it canon. If you headcanon her as non trans or just an ally, that's totally fine, since this is just my opinion.
