It is perplexing how "try to be someone people enjoy spending time with and would want to date" is basically hidden esoteric knowledge to a certain type of conservative but "try to make her your prisoner through financial dependence" just goes completely unquestioned.

It's no wonder the divorce rate is what it is when the only thing so many people think to offer is basically a threat. They don't even seem to like their spouses as people.

The other side of the coin is that if you do everything right as a woman and become someone's tradwife, you'll also be an incredibly dull person. Because they're taught that as long as you're willing and able to marry a man and take care of him and his children, you're going to be a desirable spouse.

Traditional marriage is dull4dull. Just two people with no personality outside of their gender roles going through life together reluctantly.

It's boring and usually miserable, but it's simple. There's an exact path to follow and if you do it all, you'll get a stamp of approval from your community.

If you wanted to work towards living an authentic life, that would involve a lot more societal pushback, soul-searching, questioning authority, taking risks and, especially when it comes to romantic relationships, vulnerability. All of that is fucking terrifying if you're used to just conforming, doing what you're told and basing your entire happiness and self-esteem on the pat on the back you get when you succeed at doing what was expected of you.

People are so scared of having to do any of that, in fact, they'd rather become fascists.

It is truly bleak how many people appear to be practically peer pressured into marriage because not doing it is "weird" or seen as a sign of "failure" somehow, so they do things like dating and getting married just for the sake of not being single.

I think a lot of people would be happier if they only married people they actually like and consider good friends.

basically, everybody changes all the time for all sorts of reasons. don’t let the myth of static selfhood trick you into thinking you’re unworthy. the only way to go is forward, which would be the case no matter what, and that’s okay.

the thing is. knowing someone experiences hallucinations or trouble reading facial expressions or communication difficulties or any other symptom CAN help you to understand their behaviour and respond to it appropriately. but knowing someones diagnosis is never as helpful as it is to listen to them when they talk about how they can best be accommodated. and if “can you please speak slower” (for example) sounds like a ridiculous request from someone without a diagnosis and a reasonable one from someone with a diagnosis. well you’re the dick in that situation
