"Language evolves" is a true statement but words still need to have meanings. Therian, otherkin, fictionkin, etc. 'kin in general has never been "just relating" and very little criticism of KFF as it became more popular has genuinely done irreparable damage to the community. Kin means anything from "I like this thing" to "I pretend to be this thing for fun" to "I physically transform into this thing" to "I am this thing" even though only one of those fits the definition. Alterhumanity is a spectrum etc etc but words still have actual defined meanings

I think we should go back to defining 'linkers as *consciously* created identities, instead of "voluntary". Copinglink (first 'link term) was defined as 'consciously created' anyway. It's kinda hard to point what identity is voluntary and what identity is involuntary. but if you're *consciously* creating something, then you know for sure that you're creating it and that's a 'link.

To the anon who submitted a take regarding delusional insight (being aware of one's own delusion while experiencing it): If you can provide me with a source that delusional insight is not possible I will publish the ask, but my (albeit preliminary) searches have found that while delusional insight is rare, it is not explicitly impossible ("Most commonly, patients have no insight regarding their delusions."..."Many of these patients lack insight into their disorder and consequently refuse treatment. ")

While I accept any level of controversial take on this blog, I do not want this to be a space for medical misinformation, especially towards psychotic and schizophrenic individuals who are already at a high risk of mistreatment and abuse . The uwuification of delusions has become so frustrating ever since "delusional attachment" became super popular to say "I'm literally this character in every way, it's not JUST fictionkin". "Physical shifting is biologically impossible" shouldn't be a controversial take. The makeup of ones DNA is an observable fact. I don't think every facet of ones identity has to be torn to shreds but I yearn for the days where p-shifting claims were just known to be untrue and not everything had to be valid. You can believe literally whatever you want but you shouldn't be surprised when other people don't feed into these delusions of physicality

not sure if this is a hot take but people getting mad when you say “i kin [x]” being “not correct” or “grammatically correct” then spewing on about some long winded ‘correct’ way to say you kin something (i.e., “My fictiontype is [x]” or some bullshit) is beyond stupid. This also goes for when people add onto this and say that people who say “I kin” instead of that makes it a “red flag” for kin for fun is the dumbest fucking thing i’ve heard in my life.

Saying “I kin [x]” is simply a more easy and evolved way to talk about your identity and shouldn’t be called out for being “grammatically incorrect because kinning is not a verb or something you do” (it is??? it literally is??? you are in the action of being the guy?? actively???).

anyone, everyone, and someone etc. are not human-exclusive terms. It's perfectly fine to not like these terms but don't treat as though it's excluding all nonhumans entirely just by it's usage. Some nonhumans are perfectly fine with those terms, some aren't and that's okay. Also, alternatives like everypaw are not exactly as nonhuman inclusive as you may think since it only applies to mammalian creatures with paws.

This hot take is more about fictionkinity than alterhumanity in general but, I hate it when I see other fictionkin call their doubles 'fakers.' It seems unnecessarily insulting and could cause psychological harm and distress to the double in question. Being uncomfortable with doubles is entirely different than outright stating that doubles are not real and accusing doubles as faking. It also creates an environment where others don't feel free to explore their fictionhood because they would start to think that if someone else has this kintype then they can't possibly identify as that kintype as well. This community should be a place where others can openly express and explore themselves, not a place where others can get fakeclaimed just because they identify as the same character as you. If you call doubles 'fakers' or state they just see you as relatable or call them fictionlinkers (yes I have seen these guys say that, even though fictionlinkers still are their linktype -_-), I'm blocking you regardless of if I'm a double or not.

Otherlink is under the umbrella of otherkin. Squares to rectangles situation. Voluntary kintype identities are still kintype identities.

Hot take: most "fictives" are singlets who want to be seen as "more valid" than others as The Character (tm). This happened significantly less until kin for fun started diluting the term and things like "IRL" were introduced and it devolved a pissing contest for how you really really are (character) above everyone else and "fictionkin" became the bottom of everyone's tier lists. Being a system/fictive also means you can't be called out lest you be labeled an ableist or fakeclaimer which is worse than death on this site.

I think a lot of the community would benefit greatly from focusing on building up their self-worth and self-confidence in their identity. What I mean by this is that I see so many younger members getting deeply upset, angry, and defensive when they see anything that suggests others don't believe in their identity. Like, I've been there. It sucks to be made to doubt something so integral to who you are. I'm not saying to not feel those things, all emotions are valid. But trying to foster an attitude of I know who and what I am, and that's what matters is so worth it and so much better for your overall mental health.

Being nonhuman is, at the end of the day, a personal belief about yourself that no-one is required to share, and it really sucks but the average everyday person will think of you as human and call you as such. And it hurts! I still feel deeply uncomfortable being called human. But I let it go because I know exactly what I am. But being able to let it slide off, to be secure in your own experiences - because they are real to you - is so, so nice.

I just think it "I know what I am and that is [species]" is infinitely more sustainable and fulfilling than coming up with one million rebuttals to people who are never going to humor you anyway. So many posts I see in the therian tag for example that are just people affirming that therians are their species, come across as preaching to the choir.

Just. Live, be authentic, enjoy being what you know you are and the words of doubt and disbelief from others will fade away, I promise. It might not happen over night, but it will happen.
