i am going to shout this from the rooftops:

Katniss, Haymitch, and the Seam inhabitants are all described as olive-skinned, brown-eyed (edit: and gray-eyed), and dark-haired.

Peeta, Maysilee, Katniss’ mother and the Merchants are largely described as blond haired, blue eyed, light-skinned.

The Hunger Games adaptations have a huge weakness to their casting because they allowed their white audience to overlook this very important fact, that the Mockingjay is a brown girl, that her mother was disowned for having a mixed-race and mixed-class marriage, that Katniss and Haymitch were long shots not just because they’re Seam but because they are brown… because the only brown characters in the movies (i.e. Rue, Thresh, 11 in general) were there to be tragic, not to be saviors.

Katniss Everdeen is brown, and I won’t forgive or forget the movies for erasing that part of her character.

It's so weird when people are like, "Ugh why is Aveline even here, she sucks??"

Aveline is here because on top of everything else, DA2 is a refugee metaphor. Kirkwall is a place actively hostile to Ferelden refugees, the Hawkes and Aveline have been through the hell of losing both their homes and families together. And like many refugees from the same place who traveled together irl, they are bound as tightly as blood and are now literally ride-or-die family even if they wouldn't normally have had anything in common to even make them friends back home. The Hawkes are the only family left that Aveline has, and it doesn't matter if Carver sucks or Hawke runs around with their collection of weird borderline-criminal bisexuals. They are her people and she is theirs. It would take a literal city-destroying cataclysm to even think of putting them at any sort of real odds.

Hope that clears up a very basic straightforward dynamic within the game!
