i want devices that are functional and hardy and i want them to last and fuck the rest of the shit i dont need. my ds and 3ds can lie in sleep mode for months if not years and i can pop them open and they've still got two or three bars left. my old phones in high school could go days without a charge. if i leave my nintendo switch on the floor for a few days doing absolutely fuck all nothing i will turn it on and it will cry to me mother i am dying. i am dying mother. and i tell him he'll never be half the man his brother was and he can't hear me because he's dead
if you’re someone who has to wear glasses every day that makes them basically the most important item you own which means you really gotta show those fuckers who’s boss just toss them everywhere and knock them off things and roll over them in bed at least twice a week
literally though if you feel like your life is slipping through your fingers and every day goes too fast… try doing hard things, not just taking the easy route, like reading and making art and exercising and cooking a meal from scratch and journaling, doing these things without distraction, without being absorbed on a screen… the time will stretch and you’ll be reminded that life is long and beautiful if you make it so.
im barely transitioning from my freshman to my sophomore year at college, but i cant help but look at the prospect of having a bachelor's in environmental science as just "nice" to have. bc it would be "nice" to be able to work in what im passionate about, but i can't help but fear that it would prove useless in the face of so many people turning to climate-denying stances, and taking actions that will ruin our planet 1000x over.
i sincerely think that my country and society will be in a state where my newly-acquired talents are desired and sought after once i'm ready to start a career, but as of now im resigned to knowing i'll have to strap in for 5-10 years of stupidity and bad decision-making.
The Sci Journal has a new entry!! A Brief History of Time written by @hyacinth-dancing-in-rain !
The article dives down into the different types of clocks through the ages, why they were used, their mechanics and operation, and other fun/interesting details!!
Introduction: Have we ever thought about how time has become so available to us? The journey hasn’t been easy. In the ancient times, the sun
And a quick website update: Due to technical issues, images will no longer appear in articles from 02/06/25 until the issue is resolved. At some point in the summer of 2025, The Sci Journal will change website platforms and with it its domain link.
Notice will be provided at the change and when the new website is available to view
But anyway,
Today I've procrastinated quite a bit, but after 2hrs 13 I finished a marh past paper and went through the stats half of the textbook, noting down any formulas and important details which has been really helpful already! I'm postponing the second past paper I was meant to do today for tm.
Today I also journalled, drew (I forget how much I love colouring pencils and the pieces I make from them!) and watched another episode of Noughts and Crosses — which I'm absolutely in love with!!!! It's based off of a book series that I also adored and it has taken me a few years to actually find where I can watch this series for free! And when reading the books I never considered the cultural effects and influence from Africa that the idea would being so it has been amazing visualisation also!! I think I've only got 2 episodes left tho :( (I know what it's all leading up to 😭)
Oh please, "the penetration of the vampire's bite as metaphor for sexual penetration" is like, horny classic vampire symbolism 101 🙄 Taking this to the next level of "vampire bite as literal reproductive penetration" is a conversation Tumblr is thoroughly and uniquely prepared for and one that we will all severely regret very shortly
I read a study once on the fuel efficiency of various types of commuter vehicles (car, bus, train) on a per person basis and the number of people needed riding public transit to match the "efficiency" of cars is shockingly low. A bus needs to carry like 3-4 people to be fuel efficient, and trains require 2-3 per train car. Both often carry two dozen or more during peak hours, more than justifying any perceived requirements for efficiency for the train or bus to provide service the entire day.
one of the best things I did when transitioning my writing from solely fanfic to my original novel was developing a progress system.
all the premade software and planning books were just overwhelming and did not work for me. it also did not motivate me at all. i can not do sequential writing because i will get writers block and just not write.
so with google docs, i made a color system, and oh boy, it has been so helpful. i can see at a glance what has been done, what needs doing, and what could be worked on.
this helps because depending on how many spoons i have to write, i know where i can apply my given effort for the day. some days its just proofing, some days its just starting a chapter, and some days its knocking out a whole thing.
very helpful if you're AuDHD or have chronic conditions like me!
“I don’t do math because I’m gay” “the gays can’t do math” “If I explain math on tumblr I’ll lose my gay card” all of you apologize to Alan Turing right now
It’s literally been years since anyone added something slightly clever or original to this post, so I would like to congratulate you and maybe even bestow some kind of award. I don’t have anything to give you though
I accidentally found a great textbook on quantum chem: it's called Quantum Chemistry & Spectroscopy by Thomas Engel (and it's available as a pdf if you just google the title and author) and it might just be the best quantum chem textbook I've ever used. Def recommend it for anyone who's interested. I'm obviously not objective anymore, but I think all you really need to understand it is some basic calculus, very basic linear algebra, and like solid high school math + chem + physics. If I'm wrong you can come shout at me ❤️🩹
