Love music.
Enjoy QL, mostly Thai, mostly series. To be honest, as you'll be able to tell by my show list, almost entirely BL with only the rare GL. (But if they start getting as good as ClaireBell was, I'll likely be watching more.) Also watch the occasional KDrama.
Here to read and comment on posts. Lack of posting does not represent non-engagment with a series. Reblogging represents engagement, not (necessarily) agreement with a post. Non-reblogging may (or may not) reflect an accessibility issue with the original post or that there is some other reason I don't want it on my blog (even if I like or agree with it).
If a series puts me off in the first episode, I will often abandon it, sometimes within the first few minutes. I'm less likely to abandon midway. If I'm considering abandoning a series I've otherwise liked up to that point, I'll often read the reviews on MDL or look up posts on the series, at risk of getting spoilers, to decide whether to go on with it (and it's gone both ways).
Not a fan of spoilers, but recognize it as a risk of engaging so I don't (usually) spoiler-shame. Please don't put them in comments to me, if you would be so kind.
Okay with sad endings if they're earned or otherwise inevitable. Not a fan of unearned endings, happy or sad.
Incomplete watchlist (which I will update from time to time):
In progress - active
Binge watch: TBA
Week by week watch: The Edge of Horizon
Top Shows (in order as best I can, ask me on another day and stuff might move):
Until We Meet Again and everything I like better than Until We Meet Again. Expands as needed.
Not Me (best QL series ever for plot, acting, cinematography, and music, content warning for violence) (1 rewatch)
Bad Buddy (lots of fun, new discoveries on every re-watch) (3 rewatches)
Knock Knock, Boys (episode 1 notes with mature content) (episode 3-6 notes without) (sex positive romantic comedy)
He's Coming to Me (heartwarming, delightful coming-of-age work. I didn't care for the library raid part and skipped it once on rewatch and there seemed to me to be some inconsistencies with the ghost rules.) (3 rewatches)
Laws of Attraction (review to come someday, maybe)
The Lie We Lived In (tag link) (hitman botches job when he gets the feels for a cop that shows up mid-job) (content warning for violence)
Cherry Magic (Japanese version, delightful, looking forward to the Thai remake if they ever settle the rights issues) (1 re-watch)
To Sir With Love (could get me to try lakorns)
Semantic Error (enemies to lovers comedy that hits all the right notes)
A Tale of a Thousand Stars (fine series, not sure why I haven't rewatched it, need to rewatch after Our Skyy 2)
55:15 Never Too Late (not QL but has a QL subplot, notable for having an older semi-out gay character, bittersweet ending) (1 rewatch)
Gaya Sa Pelicula (Like in the Movies) (odd couple thrown together, fall in love, hit limits)
Eternal Yesterday (rewatch episode notes) (not usually into high school QL but the plot got me and it blew me away, achingly sad throughout) (2 re-watches)
Until We Meet Again (fine contrast between the ghosts of the past and the world of today, deep story, but has a few problematic scenes that I cringe at, theme music got repetitive; content warning for suicide) (2 or 3 rewatches)
Much as I love them, I don't automatically recommend every one of them to everyone. The right rec for the right person!
In progress - on hold
The Eighth Sense (I might get to this eventually, but probably not)
Cherry Magic (Thai) (on long-term hold pending resolution of rights issues - not holding out much hope, though)

Okay, this is a really long list and keeps getting longer and I'm probably not going to watch all of them, but a fan's gotta dream, right?

Also Completed:
A Cut Above (in alphabetical order):
Near misses for my top list, bubbling under that line. Highly recommended.
Anti-Reset (episode notes) (speculative fiction on the future of AI, in a robot and a human who fall in love, quite emotional)
At 25:00 in Akasaka (review) (QL meta romantic comedy, content warning for dubcon that kept it off my top list)
The Boy Next World (Thai version, was well plotted and had great reveals, as well as some comic relief, didn't have the various red flags I hear said about Mame's writing - a couple kisses were the biggest dub-con/non-con) (I actually liked that the fantasy part was not the main focus)
Century of Love (episode notes) (a 120-year-old man learns to let go of the past and find his future with a young man he meets by chance who might be that loved one from the past after all, content warning for violence)
ClaireBell (episode notes) (two women find comfort with each other and fall in love in a corrupt Thai prison, content warning for violence throughout)
The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese (review link) (dark, sad, but well done story of sexual blackmail that turns into an uneasy relationship)
Death Note (anime series) (absolute power corrupts absolutely in this story of a teen who finds a book that lets him kill people by writing in it, intricate plot, content warning for murder)
The Devil Judge (watch notes) (fascinating, lots of twists and double, triple, and quadruple crosses, intricate plot, content warning for violence and murder)
Formula 17 (campy and fun) (2 or 3 rewatches)
4 Minutes (review) (avant-garde metaphysical exploration of regret and renewal) (4 Minutes rewatch)
History 3: Trapped (very funny and enjoyable) ( 1 rewatch)
I Became the Main Role of a BL Drama (feel-good comedy)
I Feel You Linger in the Air (my posts) (lakorn-energy time travel love story, content warning for some violence)
The Great Doctor (episode notes) (not QL) (medical/historical/time travel mashup, content warning for violence and gory medical stuff)
Kiseki: Dear to Me (watch notes) (top notch crime drama with a lot of humor - content warning for violence - includes an older gay couple) (1 rewatch)
Leap Day (fine horror outing about a transmissable curse, bittersweet ending)
Lovely Writer (very meta about the QL industry and quite funny)
Memoir of Rati (well-done period drama - I'm not sure why it's not a favorite of mine but it's well worth watching)
The Miracle of Teddy Bear (episode notes) (magical and bittersweet - includes an elderly gay couple)
Moonlight Chicken (touching and fun)
Once Again (touching time travel, sad throughout) (2 rewatches)
180 Degrees Longitude Passes Through Us (intelligent and a good watch, melancholy, feels very much like a stage play)
Reset (review link) (Chinese science fiction series, great worldbuilding, intense, content warning for things getting blown up and third-degree burns) (not QL)
The Sign (deeply flawed but wild and enthralling deep dive into northeastern Thai mythology disguised as a cop series - content warning for violence - yeah, it's a mess but it's a glorious mess)
Spare Me Your Mercy (tag link) (fine medical "what is a crime?" drama about euthanasia - mostly strong throughout except for a sloppy episode 6, bittersweet ending)
10 Years Ticket (episode notes) (crime drama about two warring families, bittersweet ending - not QL, but there's a QL subplot)
3 Will Be Free (review link) (wild ride with great twists, content warning for violence, yeah I'd call it QL, great transgender rep) (1 rewatch)
Unknown (review link) (found family, found love - content warning for violence, unrelated "brothers")
The Warp Effect (not QL, but some queer characters)
Wishing Upon the Shooting Stars (tag link) (be careful what you wish for story, only a romance) (content warning for excessive movement in the cold opens for episodes 1 and 9)
and a fanfic:
What's in Your Head (Bad Buddy zombie fic) (content warning for violence, requires AO3 login)
Others I enjoyed (in alpha order):
I enjoyed these enough to be happy I watched them, but not enough to consider them classics and in no danger of breaching my top 10.
Be My Favorite (fun time-travel fantasy with a strong political viewpoint and good twists, one of the mains is a bit hard to take)
Bed Friend (not sure enjoyed is the right word, has some triggers, but worth seeing, loved the cat role-play)
Bite Fight (so bad it's good; horror comedy)
The Boy Foretold By the Stars (fun, sweet comedy)
The Boy Next World (Japanese version, went by a little too fast)
Cat for Cash (cute cat café romcom with a dose of magical realism, ending felt long)
Countdown to Yes (slow burn romance, nice domestic ending)
Choco Milkshake (fun, touching pet fantasy)
Cupid's Last Wish (fun body-swap plot, insane amount of food and landscape porn, rural settings, content warning for gross cow veterinary scene)
Dark Blue Kiss (pretty good, creepy interloper)
Dear Tenant (enjoyed isn't the right word, and had to pause and walk away from it partway for a major cry, but an excellent film)
DNA Says I Love You (review link) (sweet, sad, interesting gender minority rep)
Desire (tag link) (my wild intro to Omegaverse; so wrong and yet so right)
The End of the World With You (mix of SF and fantasy, good story and relationships)
Eternal Summer (Taiwanese film about youth discovering their identity - bisexual love triangle - well done if a bit melancholy)
The Ex-Morning (exes, unceremoniously separated, rebuild their relationship while they rebuild a shattered career) (lots of fun, and aside from the core problem of the plot, problems don't last long)
Fake Fact Lips (a marketer has sex with a rival after losing a bet; romance ensues)
First Love Again (A slave and a woman in Goreyo fall in love, but the slave is killed for it. Two reincarnations later, they are two men in modern-day Seoul. Oh, and there's a spirit who used to be a cat guiding the former slave through his wish to be loved. Good balance between romantic comedy and drama.)
Flower Boy (A rural man who gives off scents is enticed to go to the city by a perfumer who wants to capture the rural man's scent and capitalize on it. Romance and intrigue ensue.)
Ghost Host, Ghost House (nice supernatural treatment)
Gift Shop for People You Hate (not QL but has two minor gay characters making guest appearances, one evil and one harmless) (horror, with a very dark sense of humor) (this one doesn't show an English title on YouTube, but if you search YouTube under that name you'll find it) (1 rewatch)
The Heart Killers (good fun although sometimes it had me squirming)
Innocent (a relationship involving split personality disorder, very different, dubcon alert)
Jack O'Frost (melancholy and sweet)
Kidnap (poor guy makes bad choices, kidnaps rich kid, crime, romance, and self-improvement ensue) (content warning for violence)
Kissable Lips movie (review link) (trash, but enjoyable diversion, sad but noble ending)
La Pluie (review) (mostly strong series with a just okay ending)
Love Happens in the World of If (office loner gets a chance to experience a different version of himself and falls in love)
Love in the Big City (review link) (melancholy exploration of a gay man's life and search for love, not sure enjoyed is the right word, but it's worth watching) (content warning for suicide attempt)
Love of Siam (review link) (bittersweet early Thai BL film, on the slow side)
The Man Who Defies the World of BL (very funny after watching several series and becoming aware of the tropes)
The Man Who Defies the World of BL season 2 (okay, maybe a joke can go on long enough)
Marahuyo Project (brief review) (city queer tries to create queer community in a conservative island town)
Me, My Husband and My Husband's Boyfriend (bittersweet poly-ish story)
Midnight Museum (not QL but has a major bromance that could go full QL if there's ever a sequel) (a mess, but a glorious mess)
Melody of Secrets (liked enough, identity mystery, went full lakorn in episodes 8 & 9)
Mr. Unlucky Has No Choice But to Kiss (quite enjoyable)
Monster Next Door (extrovert falls for introvert, romance and miscommunications ensue)
My Golden Blood (vampire falls in love with human he's supposed to protect, only to discover a plot concerning the human's super-powered blood)
My Magic Prophecy (tags link) (grateful Jimmy and Sea got a good enough series with a decent ending)
My Ride (enjoyable comedy with dramatic moments - includes an older gay couple)
Naked Dining (good fun, lots of misunderstandings and food porn)
Neverland (web series from India, well done and too brief)
No Regret (tag link) (Korean queer film - queer sex worker is chased by a rich gay man and complications ensue - quite dark) (content warning for violence)
Our Dating Sim (fun series about the courage to correct your mistakes from the past, set in the video game workplace - a few cringe moments, but generally a very kind series)
Our Dining Table (very sweet series about found family with lots of food porn)
Rainbow Prince (campy and fun, not enough songs for something that's supposed to be a musical, you have to be okay with cheesy)
Rak Diao (funny, very silly, very sitcom, although the harassment jokes got old fast and didn't stop)
Rearrange (tag link) (music-centered time travel/try to change the future yarn, rushed beginning, later eps keep referring back to stuff we never saw)
The Rebound (sports meets organized crime and trouble mom, new entry into best grandmothers of QL, fun and thrills with some teary moments)
Silhouette of Your Voice (movie, a young man who is losing his hearing meets another young man who he can hear clearly - interesting take on disability, slow in places)
Sleep With Me (review link) (sweet lesbian romance, kinda slow for such short episodes, great disability rep)
Something in My Room (the abridged-episode version) (good, not great, ghost story)
Stay By My Side (review link) (fun ghost story version of Mr. Unlucky Has No Choice But to Kiss)
Tale of the Lost Boys (movie) (friendship story between a visiting straight Filipino and a gay Taiwanese aboriginal in Taiwan, heartwarming story)
ThamePo (Underemployed guy meets boy band star and romance and complications follow)
Tinted with You (a way too short, fun time travel fantasy involving a painting and a mystical art lover that bring an art student together with an ancient deposed prince)
Twilight Kiss aka Suk Suk (fine, bittersweet Hong Kong film about an affair between two older heterosexually married men who are actually closeted gay men)
Twins (Thai pulp, fun, not too deep, some poop humor)
Two Worlds (strong as a fantasy, a bit pulpy for my tastes but enjoyable enough, content warnings for violence throughout and for suddenly turning into Camille)
Wandee Goodday (a smart, sex-positive comedy with some missteps that kept it off my cut above list)
What Six Survivors Told (quick review) (zombie comedy, not QL but a bi character and same sex attractions, strong female characters, very funny)
Wooju Bakery (tag link) (spaceship crash lands into an about to open bakery, chaos ensues, also romance - insanely funny with an emphasis on "insane," provided many needed hearty laughs throughout, don't bring your brain)
Your Name Engraved Herein (not sure enjoyed is the right word but it's fine work)
Zero Photography (from Magic of Zero) (most entertaining product promotion vehicle I've seen in QL, even better than Pran & Pat's product placements in Bad Buddy or OffGun's space alien ad vehicle)
Torn about:
These all had some kind of major issue that prevents me from recommending them.
Fish Upon the Sky (appalled at the racism/punch-down humor in episode 4, otherwise loved its play with form)
Last Twilight (entrancing series, but the characters didn't grow, the ending was poorly set up, and it ultimately fumbled on disability rep)
Mr. Cinderella (nearly abandoned this one because of a supporting toxic character, but kept with it after reading a post about the traditional Vietnamese story it was tracking)
Peaceful Property (episode notes) (bromantic ghost comedy drama, takes until the halfway point to get really good so approach with patience)
Secret Crush on You (cringed for the first half, considered dropping it, read the defense by trans reviewers, watched the rest, and suddenly it got really good)
Together With Me (mix of great content and really problematic content)
Lukewarm:
I'm more glad than not that I watched these but in retrospect would have been okay if I had missed them:
Bagan Beginning (Not-bad early Myanmar foray into QL, lots of food and antiquity porn, content warning for violence in the last episode)
Color Rush (interesting concept, just okay)
Customized Lover (review link) (short ep anime, just okay but stunning if inconsistent animation)
Enchanté (not as bad as people say it is, but also just okay)
Gay OK Bangkok and Gay OK Bangkok 2 (definitely gay and, er, okay)
Lover Merman (tag link) (fun enough, follows through on the interesting premise, so so acting, pure trash)
Nitiman (okay enough)
Only Friends (episode notes) (a sex farce with too much toxic behavior for my taste and a last episode choice that left a bad taste in my mouth)
Our Skyy 2 Bad Buddy x Thousand Stars (counting the four episodes as one series even though they have different names, didn't love this but didn't hate it either, very pale compared to the original two separate series)
Our Skyy 2 Vice Versa (was just okay with a really bad idea at the base of its plot)
Star & Sky: Star in My Mind (not great, not bad)
The Tasty Florida (cute enough, just so-so)
Ticket to Heaven (tag link) (excellent acting, slow, poor setup of the ending)
Vice Versa (brief notes) (good concept, product placements became way too intrusive for my full enjoyment)
Ones I wish I could watch:
I only watch legit sources, both so the creators get money for it and to reduce the hacking risks that watching gray presents.
Triage (I don't have a Thai phone number to log in to AISPlay, and even if I did not sure if it would have English subtitles)
Manner of Death (I need a WeTV subscription and will check that out) (thank you to @lurkingteapot for this info)
Peach of Time (supernatural plot) (supposedly I can watch this on WeTV using VPN but I'm not yet ready to make the leap to VPN)
Series I abandoned:
23.5, despite my pledge to watch it, very late (episode 11, mid-part-2/4) because of what I call the punching bag trope that just showed up
Awaiting Dawn (got halfway through the first episode and quit because it wasn't engaging me)
Accomplishment of Fundoshi Bartender (episode 2 when he screamed offstage about not dating married men - I know this series isn't intended to be realistic but I still need the other characters to react to his behavior - this series has gotten entirely too silly for me)
Caged Again (cute idea but not into the high school dynamics)
Candy Colored Paradox (bored by episode 2 or 3)
Cooking Crush (a few minutes into episode 1 [2/4] as it is getting way too silly for me, plus we're going to have to put up with hazing/bullying as comedy - at least they had some new sound effects)
ChermChey (dropped after 5 episodes because I wasn't enjoying the abusive stuff)
Cutie Pie (hated the infantilizing, left by episode 3 or 4)
A Dog and A Plane (got too silly for me in episode 3)
Eternal Butler (dropped after episode 7 because it wasn't engaging me enough; was watching week to week but might have been okay for a binge watch if I didn't have such a long backlog)
Every You, Every Me (started out good but got boring toward the end)
Head 2 Head (it's cute, but I've got such a backlog that I only want to watch stuff I really like, and I found the first fifteen minutes kinda obnoxious)
Hello, Love! (while I'd like to support Cambodia joining the QL community, all the whirling camera shots are too hard on my eyes)
I Love a Lot of You (HL - I had too much trouble tracking the different personalities and it looked like it was going to get creepier than I would enjoy)
I Promised You The Moon (first episode didn't grab me)
I Told Sunset About You (left in episode 1, not loving the high school content)
Lost in the Forest (left mid-ep 2, wasn't engaging me and I wasn't thrilled with the acting)
Love by Chance (had someone fall on top of someone else in the first 30 seconds, left immediately)
Love in Translation (watched 2 episodes, not engaging me)
Love Like a Bike (camerawork makes it harder to watch, fall kiss in the first minute)
Love Stage (apparently without most of the music - I'm guessing there's rights issues - but I abandoned it after 2 episodes because one of the lead's acting felt flat and I didn't enjoy the humor)
The Loyal Pin (too slow for me and I didn't enjoy Anin's evil seme behavior)
Lucky My Love (first segment didn't engage me)
The Masked Hearts (while I liked the period piece part, the acting was on the stiff side and I had no patience for the present day dynamics)
Meow Ears Up (lost interest in the first episode with the fangirls in the store incident)
My Secret Love (first segment didn't engage me)
One Room Angel (dropped after episode 3 because it's so depressing)
Pit Babe (the one episode I watched didn't grab me, I never came back to it, and my to watch list is way too long for me to ever come back to it, especially after watching Desire satisfied my omegaverse curiosity)
Playboyy (a new record - I got scared away by the content warning before the episode even started - however, based on various posts I might reconsider in for a binge watch once it's over)
The Promise of the Soul (left at episode 3, too much non-con behavior for my taste, and not loving the college dynamic)
Secret Lover (did not enjoy the toxicity in the first episode)
Secrets Happened on the Litchi Island (the subtitles were too hard for me to follow - they disappeared too quickly and it got annoying)
SOTUS (not a fan of hazing)
The Spirealm (didn't hold my interest; it might help to be a gamer to appreciate this series)
Star & Sky: Sky in Your Heart (abandoned around the time of the outhouse incident)
Theory of Love (abandoned when nearly at the beginning Gun's character was crying in the shower)
VIP Only (failed to engage me in the first episode)
Un-favorite tropes:
Wrong person apologizing
Falling on someone
Heavy seme/uke dynamic
Non-con without consequences
Northern rural Thai loan sharks
Evil ex
Boss/Employee
Stuff that I've written as opposed to reblogged I've tagged #pandasmagorica so I can find them easier. If I reblog someone else's post and want to find it again or have made substantial comments, I'll tag it "#pandasmagorica bookmark" instead.
It is funny when you realize that Thailand's entire future depends on one man being able to put down his horny goggles long enough to have a serious conversation with the man he loves.
Most of the time in historical series like Edge of Horizon, we see weeks, months, or even years of characters doing everything they can to protect their relationship and keep their secret.
Tin and Phob, meanwhile, love to keep everything in public places as much as possible.
They got caught by multiple people on day one of their relationship, had 11 years to learn from their mistakes, and then immediately got caught by multiple people again within a few hours of getting their second chance.
They're simply too far gone to even attempt subtlety, and honestly? At this point, I have no choice but to respect the dedication to getting caught.
Jan wouldn't let a man hurt a woman, especially if he is playing with his heart.
I hope she understood quickly that it was about Siri and Thin. Siri is a good friend to Thin because she doesn't really betray his "secret". She is just lost on what she should do. She is as much prisoner of her title as Thin is. Her father wouldn't let her stop this marriage. It's like there is no solution and she desperately needs someone to help her.
Thankfully, Jan had really good advice to give her. It's great that Siri now has someone who can help her and be on her side. If only the series would let them be together. That would be amazing.
It is funny when you realize that Thailand's entire future depends on one man being able to put down his horny goggles long enough to have a serious conversation with the man he loves.
Trans people, and all queer people, are forever welcome with the Industrial Workers of the World. Happy Pride to our queer members, and to everyone else!
Today marks the second anniversary of my blog, Pointlesscandies, which honestly doesn't feel real. I can't believe it's already been two years.
I just wanted to say thank you to this community—for all the hilarious posts, comments, and tags along the way, and for all the lovely people I've met over the past two years.
It has genuinely been such a pleasure to be here, and that's pretty rare when it comes to fandoms, so I think that really says something.
Thank you all for making this little corner of the internet such a joy to be part of for the last two years. 💙💜
I'm still thinking about the guy who saw me realize my wheelchair wouldn't fit in the elevator because he (also a wheelchair user) was already inside it and immediately quipped, "This elevator ain't accessible enough for the both of us."
Taking these notes so I don't have to log in until the episode is done. I have a feeling this episode is going to be all over my timeline. I continue to love this series, even with the dubcon.
Neither Phob nor Tinn are good at hiding their feelings, are they? But somehow, Phob can't see it in Tinn, even though photographer Jan can see through both of them.
Still, when Phob's mom - who can also see right through Phob - says "The sky is high and the ground is low," Phob says "It doesn't always have to be like that." And it works on two levels, Phob's interrupted relationship with Tinn and the potentially dangerous work Phob is doing toward a more just society. Love this series! (At least Phob's mom is now trying to be kind and no longer yelling at him.)
Content warning for some noncon and dubcon kissing and marking during the episode.
So many coincidental sightings and discoveries in this series. Yes, I know this is a lakorn. I can deal with it.
Ooh, Siri and Jan using "ha" with each other instead of "kaa"! (And pleased I've learned enough about Thai particles to recognize this, thanks to @absolutebl.)
And love how Siri uses the old Asking for a friend ruse. Listen, Siri, you know you and Tinn can use each other as beards so you can pursue the relationship you really want to pursue (although Siri might still need to have some kids to get your father to shut up). Very bold on Siri's part to effectively out yourself to your father.
Dad to Tinn: Did Phob say anything suspicious. Tinn to dad: We didn't talk much. (How true, I'm roaring with laughter at that one.)
Soldiers openly talking to royals about the tribulations of the common people. Things are tense! Thank you to @absoluteBL for referring us to the historical record. Wild to see it dramatized as a love story.
“And yet, strangely, Americans are probably reading more words than ever before. What has changed is what they read, and how. People are bombarded with emails, text messages, X posts, Reddit threads, Instagram captions. This explosion of textual fragments has come at the expense of devoting sustained attention to longer written works that convey rich and complicated information. Maryanne Wolf, a cognitive neuroscientist at UCLA, argues that people are losing the ability to think deeply about writing. That doesn’t mean they are forgetting how to decode individual words. Rather, they are losing the higher-order abilities of comprehension and synthesis. America, in other words, isn’t illiterate. It’s postliterate.”
You gotta read and watch some old books and films that aren’t 100% modern politically correct. I’m not saying you should agree with everything in them but you need to learn where genres came from to understand what those genres are doing today and where media deconstructing old tropes is coming from.
Also, more often than you might think, they’re not actually promoting bigotry so much as “didn’t consider all the implications of something” or just used words that were polite then but considered offensive now.
When we choose to avoid history because it's Problematic or Says Bad Things, we are choosing to divorce ourselves from understanding how we came from that time to this one, which makes it even more likely for the cycle to repeat, with no one but a few people with shelves of old books aware that it's happened before.
and this shit's important. Media from the past tells us how people from the past acted and thought and behaved.
Plus, a lot of these media pieces were socially acceptable and/or progressive for their time. For example, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, while it contains a lot of words and ideas that are offensive now, was very progressive for its time. The book is a statement piece for how a young man who's grown up in a racist environment, with no words to explain himself other than racist and bigoted ones, decides that the whole system is shit and he's not going to follow those rules any more. So not reading or engaging with it because it uses the n-word a lot really misses the point.
Tagged by @hyeoni-comb (hyeoni-comb's check-in). hoo-boy, I actually have to do some work for this one as I don't track when I watched something, so have to dig thru my posts. But it's an interesting ask so I'm going to go ahead with it. And glad to see someone with numbers in the same range as me so I don't feel quite as intimidated. Salute to all of us who can only watch so many QLs and get so far behind on what is out there.
1) Number of QLs you've watched so far:
finished, not a rewatch: 13
dropped: 4
on hold: 2 (long-term, maybe forever)
currently watching: 1
rewatched from previous years: 3
rewatched from this year: if instant rewatches count, 1, otherwise 0
2) Best QL you've watched in 2026 so far:
The Lie We Lived In (Korea), so many twists and turns, never a dull moment, fine acting, over the top ending. Yeah, many plot holes but it was the series so far this year that has most engaged me. Content warning for violence.
Honorary mention to Wishing Upon the Shooting Stars. It could have been best but it rushed and failed to fully set up the ending. Content warning for queasy camera work in the episode 1 and 9 cold opens and brief violence.
3) QL that you want to watch but haven't gotten around to yet:
Goddess Bless You From Death but either it needs to show up on a streaming service I subscribe to or I have to believe China won't install spyware on my computer.
4) QL that was the biggest disappointment for you:
Ticket to Heaven. For a series where the acting was so good, it was glacially slow and didn't set up the psych ending well.
5) Most anticipated QL for the second half of the year:
That's a trick question, since we don't even know out of the dozens of shows GMMTV and Domundi trailered, which ones are actually going to be made. That's before we even get to whether they get released on a service they subscribe to. But I'd say Hug Hlee the Musical - it looks like so much fun ala Rainbow Prince.
6) Biggest surprise favorite new actor (debut or new to you):
Gosh, I can barely recognize most actors let alone pick a favorite. But I'll go with Tsao Lan who played Angela (Wan Zhe's mother) on Wishing Upon the Shooting Stars. She's a great comic actor and she delighted me. Wish she'd gotten a lot more screen time.
7) Newest fictional crush:
Li Wan Zhe (except the jerky never knew Xiang Yong version).
8) Favorite QL that made you happy:
Wooju Bakery was just so off the wall silly I was laughing from beginning to end.
9) Favorite QL that made you cry:
Sorry to say, I don't think any QLs this half year made me cry. Some QLs do make me cry but for some reason didn't work that particular magic on me recently. Maybe Our Dining Table? But I don't remember enough of it to be sure. This is coming from someone who can cry at the opening credits.
10) What QLs do you need to watch by the end of the year?
I feel so overwhelmed by the number of QLs out there now that I can't even anticipate. But among the ones I have access to, possibly The Therapy Game, Love Is Better the Second Time Around, and A Winter Sun OMG Such a Long Title. Oh, and I need to rewatch Eternal Yesterday and maybe, hmmm, Bad Buddy?
Bonus question:
11) Any classics?
Funny you should ask. Yes!
Love of Siam, movie, classic Thai QL.
East Palace West Palace, movie, underground Chinese QL that dates back all the way to 1996, hadn't seen it in a while, wasn't sure it was a QL, could have simply been queer, but after watching it, yes, definitely a QL, although it might be a spoiler to say so.
tagged by @my-rose-tinted-glasses and @moutheyes 💜 thanks for tagging me! I love an opportunity to look back and reflect hehe.
1) Number of QLs you've watched so far:
finished: 11
dropped: 2
on hold: 1
currently watching: 3
2) Best QL you've watched in 2026 so far:
Duang with You. as soon as I finished this series, I knew it'd probably be the best of the year for me and so far that still holds true. while talking to @moutheyes about this series, I realized I probably have a big soft spot for neurodivergent-coded characters. plus the amount of communication and nuance in this show paired with Qinn seeming demi-coded? I could not ask for more lmao.
3) QL that you want to watch but haven't gotten around to yet:
Fake Fact Lips. (me to me:) I'm gonna start watching soon, I swear!!
4) QL that was the biggest disappointment for you:
Love You Teacher. I've seen how much people loved this series and I wish I could have loved it too. in the end, things just didn't align and it wasn't the story for me. my feelings of disappointment are solely personal/subjective; I was just really looking forward to this series so it was a huge bummer to find out it wasn't my cup of tea.
5) Most anticipated QL for the second half of the year:
Gelboys 2 and Weirdo 101 💜
6) Biggest surprise favorite new actor (debut or new to you):
Java. his acting in muteluv was so good! I wasn't expecting the emotional depth he brought to his character in 4 short episodes. I am ready to see more of him pls.
7) Newest fictional crush:
I don't think I have one. if I had to choose a fictional platonic crush then it might be Oh from muteluv: Love Me if You Swear.
8) Favorite QL that made you happy:
Duang with You. the amount of squealing, laughing, and jumping around I did while watching this series ugh hahaha.
9) Favorite QL that made you cry:
Ticket to Heaven.
10) What QLs do you need to watch by the end of the year?
tentative aspirations to watch Fake Fact Lips, Your Name Engraved Herein, and Ossan no Pantsu ga Nan Datte Ii Janai ka! by eoy lol.
no pressure tags: @dramalove247 @merryfuture @pandasmagorica @byemambo + if you see this and want to play, consider yourself tagged 💜
Images are screenshots, presumably from the show in the immediately preceding question. The second image has a subtitle "I only care about people that I love." The third image shows Barth standing beside a sign "God sees you always" and staring at Tanrak.
Thank you for the tag! Working on my response and will tag you on it.
While Your Name Engraved Herein is an excellent film it will rip your heart out and hand it back to you neatly sliced and diced.
yes, India made legal gender change impossible
but the doctor down the street who gives me my T shots
in a clinic so small that it's just two rooms
was excited for me when she said my voice had dropped
yes, India made legal gender change impossible
but the receptionist who could see that I was a man
didn't bat an eyelash when I asked to see the gynecologist
and called me sir when he asked how I wanted to pay
yes, India made legal gender change impossible
but the barber cuts my hair exactly how I want it
and never gave me strange looks for being in a men's salon
not even back when I didn't pass as one
yes, India made legal gender change impossible
but my friends have always gendered me correctly
and stick to it even when it confuses other people
and my friend's little sibling calls me older brother in Kannada
yes, India made legal gender change impossible
but my dog learned my new name quicker than the humans
and she runs to give me a kiss when she's told to
without being confused about who's being referred to
yes, India made legal gender change impossible
but I can feel the Adam's apple growing in my throat
and my muscles getting stronger, and my smile more real
and I'm growing a beard, and I talk more freely
yes, India made legal gender change impossible
but I'm here, and I'm alive, and so are you
and there are good people, people who care
and don't let them make you forget that--
you are not alone.
jowls are normal double chin is normal stretch marks are normal armpit fat is normal. none of the things that tiktok and instagram are telling you to change are things you need to even consider changing. you can have a normal body, it will be okay
Re-read your quirkies of 2022 thru 2024. Did you do a 2025? Your tagging for these was inconsistent.
Positively impressed you could separate out your enjoyment from the quality when it came to Eternal Summer.
"Your tagging was inconsistant"
You're way too kind.
My tagging is like singing in a Thai drama, not even good when it works. But also... it never works.
Yeah, I did to a quirky for 2025, here they all are...
2022
2023
2024
2025
Eternal Summer... I think you mean Eternal Yesterday. I still think about that show. Still sad. Still gripping. My relationship with it remains very complicated. Also, that damn song lives in my head, heart, ears, and playlists rent free forever. So good. So so good.
(Eternal Summer is also worth watching, if you can get hold of it. A 20 year old Taiwanese BL from 2006.)
Yes, I did mean Eternal Yesterday and not Eternal Summer.
Thank you for the reminder about Eternal Summer, yes, worth seeking out. I have seen some really old Chinese QL movies around the time they came out or perhaps the following year:
Image posted by Tumblr user @cuntpunkop-ed is the Disability Pride Flag, created by disabled activist Ann Magill. The flag is made up of diagonal stripes in muted colors on a medium gray background (the strong colors of the original lightning bolt flag were triggering for some with visual disabilities). The diagonal stripes are:
muted red;
pale gold;
a very light gray (almost white);
light blue;
soft green.
