“What’s the point then,” Erik said flatly. “What’s the point of me stealing your pills or breaking your suppressors or knowing any of this? What’s the point of letting me know everything I do about Kurt? What’s the point of keeping me around?”

“I don’t know what you're talking about.”

“Why bother fighting any of it at all if you are never going to try for freedom?”

“Because I will get my freedom in the end.”

“You don’t….”

“What?”

Erik shook his head.

“You don’t understand.”

“No, Erik. Tell me.” Erik could feel the words catching in his throat. He felt like Charles already knew the answer. It was yet another one of those inevitable truths. It was something that should remain unspoken.

“I don’t know.”

“Don’t lie to me.”

“I can’t lie to you.” Erik said, softly.

what's your writing process like

Oooooh boy. here we go: 

I get an idea, think about the idea, do a little world building like where are they where do they live how many beds are there, research. Then, I forget about the idea for like a hour and by the end of the hour my brain has the basic bones of the plot down. i make a sorta outline then let it sit, manically write around 30,000 words, not have motivation for like 2 months, get back in the story, throw in some angst. Somewhere in there project into characters and text your beta in the middle of the night with weird plot twists and ideas. Is twice as effective if at least 70% of the manic writing is done at school or work with a gel pen and pieces of paper. repeat until all the fics your heart desires are written.

Canon or Fanon?

There’s a few ideas I see in Cherik fic, things about Charles and Erik’s backgrounds, that I see repeated often enough that they feel “official” or at least like they must have a basis in some version of canon… but I don’t actually know if that’s true, or if it’s fic writers just springboarding off each other. I mean, I’ve used some of these myself without any idea whether they have any basis in canon, I can hardly blame anyone else for doing so.

Can anyone satisfy my curiosity about the following:

Erik having a sister (sometimes cousin) named Ruth

Brian Xavier committing suicide

Brian Xavier experimenting on young Charles

Sharon Xavier being an alcoholic (this one is so universal I think it must be true…)

Charles using the pseudonym Francis Pembroke

Brian Xavier worked for the government in a secret project called Black Womb, which was headed by Dr. Nathan Milbury (who was actually Mr. Sinister). He allowed Charles to be experimented on, though it’s unclear if he actually did it himself.

He and Kurt Marko were colleagues in Project Black Womb, and Brian died in a lab accident.

While I don’t think it’s expressly confirmed that Sharon was an alcoholic, she did begin to drink heavily after Brians death. Kurt married her, pretending that he cared about Charles well being and his ‘need for a father’, but he was only interested in the Xavier fortune. Kurt goes onto physically abuse Sharon and she realises he only married her for the money and to get to Charles who he sees as gifted. She dies of a broken heart. Charles has spoken to Erik about seeing his mother drink herself into a stupor regularly so I think it’s quite safe to confirm she was an alcoholic, at least in the comics. Most of this comes from the comics, specifically X-Men Unlimited, Uncanny and Legacy

As @kaydeefalls mentioned in the notes, Charles Xavier’s middle name is Francis and he attended Pembroke College at Oxford. If the “Francis Pembroke” alias is purely fanon, I believe it may originate from an early XMFC fic, The Changeling by aesc.

Incidentally, St. Francis Xavier was a missionary and one of the founding Jesuits, a Catholic religious order that works in education. So while I’m not sure Professor Xavier’s religion has ever been canonically established, Catholic seems like a pretty solid guess.

Charles is listed as being Protestant Christian however I’m not aware of any comic that expressly mentions his religion?
