hm so psa bc i didn’t know this, it’s not common knowledge, and flu season is around:

apparently you aren’t supposed to take dextromethorphan (a common cough suppressant. it’s in stuff like cough syrup, mucinex dm, tylenol severe cold) with sertraline (aka zoloft, the antidepressant) bc it has the risk of causing Serotonin Syndrome, which is not as fun as the name suggests. i’m not a doctor but like, avoid drug interactions bc they can be serious.

Not just sertraline, any SSRI or SNRI. Serotonin syndrome can kill you. When I was younger and on a lot of medication, a dose of cough medicine landed me in the ER. Always check potential interactions here before taking anything with antidepressants, even if it’s over-the-counter.

YES THIS. The “DM” behind a lot of cough and cold medication stands for Dextromethorphan, by the way, but it is not exclusively the ones that SAY ‘dm” that HAVE dextromethorphan, so read the labels. (It is, as I learned last year, surprisingly difficult but not 100% impossible to find cold remedies that do not have DM added).

@national-shitpost-registry This is a modular synth! Basically an instrument that works with voltage that you can control in order to generate and modulate different parameters to create sound, logic and, eventually, music. Here what is happening is that the mushroom is controlling the voltage thanks to the pin. By doing that, all the parameters connected to the mushroom went crazy, probably because it generates a really weird voltage and in a very random way. You can check a youtuber called Andrew Huang and his music and also Omri Cohen to learn how to do it yourself with a freeware called VCV Rack!

The ends of the hyphae contain potassium ions that the mushroom uses to send electric pulses across its mycelium! an author i love just tweeted about how “big joy and small joy are the same” and how she was just as content the other night eating chocolate and cuddling her dog as she was on her Big Trip to new york and honestly. i think that’s it. this morning i was listening to an audiobook while baking shortbread in my joggers and i realised i really didn’t care what Big Things happened in my future as long as i could keep baking and reading at the weekend and maybe that is the kind of bar we have to set to guard ourselves against disappointment. just appreciate and cherish the mundane stuff and see everything else as a bonus.
