It’s two am and I tried not to laugh
If this isn’t accurate, I don’t know what is.
Looks like I hit a nerve
Here's another unpopular opinion.
Student's should work the rota that's given to them.
"Can't do that day, I don't have childcare"
"Can't work that shift, blah blah shit excuse"
You can't say you want to be treated like a nurse, get paid to do placements and then demand you have every Sunday off.
When you're qualified you won't be able to just pick and choose the days you work so why now?
Work your rota just like the rest of us!!
I'm sick of student nurses thinking they are hard done by
Dear student nurses,
Firstly, welcome to nursing life.
Secondly, quit your fucking moaning.
I've just read a blog post about a student nurse who is also a mum of 2. Fan-bloody-tastic.
In this post, she is stating how she is "working for free" for the NHS because she started this year and didn't get a bursary and had to take out a loan.
Bitch you are not "working for free", you're training. You have barely any skills, you're a first year. You shouldn't be getting paid you have no damn experience. How does this student feel so bloody entitled?
Yes I came through nursing on a bursary but that doesn't mean anything. It basically covered my rent at student accommodation and that's it.
I still had to take out a student loan to cover other expenses!!
The nursing programme is for students to learn how to work as a nurse and is 50% theory and 50% practical. You know this at the start and you agree to it. You cannot be slagging off parliament for cutting the bursary when they are trying to save money for areas of the NHS that bloody need it!!
I know we need more nurses ofc I do. And only the most dedicated will now pay to do it so I dont have to fail as many shit nursing students as I used to.
Get a grip woman. You're not entitled to get paid. You're training. So sit down and shut up.
…I almost killed myself
I put on my sunglasses, to hide my swollen eyes, over my tears. I cried all my makeup off. Went inside to have a milkshake. I don’t know why. I wanted something to drink as I figured out what I would do. I got a soda and a milkshake. Medium. The cashier looked at me and with a line around the corner of the counter he rushed away from the counter “Hold on “ he yelled to a coworker.
I filled my soda and went back and saw him looking all over. I go up and he gets close and says “I made it a large”.
That was seriously enough for me not to do it. His kindness. Someone went out of their way and as I went back in my car to cry I realized I could muster through a few other days. A few more weeks. Then I came down from that panicky high of anxiety, depression, and pain. I finished my shake. And it was enough time to let me feel better. I… I’m alive. I’ll make it through.
Try and be nice today. Tomorrow. Something as much as a smile. It helped so much.
Thank you man at McDonalds.
The milkshake saved my life
I hope you all can read this and remember to be kind
The smallest of gestures can save a life. My Mum answered her phone when I called and I am alive today because of that.
I’m glad you’re here.
It’s a phone call, a milkshake, a friend.
I feel like I shouldn’t keep reblogging this but when I do more people see what kindness can do…. I don’t know. Love everyone as yourself.
Nah, keep rebloging it. It gives hope.
walked sobbing around a city once wearing a summer dress in mid-september thunder and rain. basically dragged myself into LUSH as the smell of the store always made me smile. the shop was empty and dead due to the weather, just this blonde short woman behind the counter who smiled at me. i stared at her feet and asked ‘do you have anything for people who are scared a lot?’ (i was so out of it i had no clue). she showed me two bath bombs, one pink and one blue, and said both were good - i chose the pink, paid for it and left. i then sat at a bus stop clutching the LUSH bag in one arm and my prescription meds in the other - i’d lied and ordered a refill so i could just drift away with sleeping pills. when the bus arrived and i was out of the rain, i decided to have another look at my bath bomb, smell it and what not. opened my bag and saw she’d put the blue one in there for me as well and written on the receipt ‘feel better soon :) hope you like x’.
no one had ever been so selflessly kind to me before, i didn’t know what to do with it except hang around long enough to use the other bath bomb.
Actually I’m going to reblog this again because of the truth of the inverse: think of any time you have been casually cruel or petty to someone for humor or because you weren’t in a great mood.
The power of small gestures goes both ways.
Everyone is fighting their own battle; be kind always
Reblogging again because this is so important
The smallest of things and actions can make such a big difference In anyone’s life. Just know that, and also know to always be kind❤💕
Also if you’ve ever thought you wanted to be a charge nurse stop because it’s literally the most thankless job. You thought you were underappreciated as a staff nurse? Puhhhhlease.
And that's why I never became a sister.
FYI
Hyperglycaemic is high blood sugar level.
And
Hypoglycaemic is low blood sugar level.
Know the difference. A child who has had too much coke would be hyperglycaemic whereas hypo rhymes with low.
Jazzed up my stethoscope because it was looking a little dated. Used little plastic spiral cords to maintain it’s wipe-ability for infection control purposes.
Needed to do this because changing the whole tubing was wayyy to costly. Also, I can change the colour of this as many times as I want and it does not compromise the actual scope! :D Happy Days!
Addressing the #NHSPAYDEAL
Well... what a lot of people who are in uproar about the misleading of the pay deal.
No, actually, there was more than enough information for people out there, read between the lines.
So many staff didn’t even vote for the pay deal when they had the chance and now it’s mostly those who are in uproar. The ones that rejected the deal knew this was coming and have accepted our fate. I knew it wasn’t the best deal we could get but hey anything is better than nothing.
Though this is still a really low ball. I, personally, have received a pay rise of 25p an hour BEFORE tax. So after tax it’s 20p an hour. In total, around £42 a month which is not that bad. And on my 6 month increment date I should get another little raise. Again it’s not going to be life changing money but I’m not one of those struggling to get by.
I understand people feel misled by the media, their unions (esp RCN who urged us to accept, damn fools). But people should take some ownership. You should have done some research.
Seriously, it’s Sheep being led by more sheep.
Don't be afraid.
“For those who are afraid to become a nurse because they have a weak stomach,It won’t be the vomit or needles or blood or urine or feces that turns your stomach. You’ll get used to that. You’ll come to accept it’s just part of the job and get to the point where you’re thinking of the 38 different things you have to do while absentmindedly cleaning up a bowel movement. What will turn your stomach will be 40 shallow breaths a minute in a patient in respiratory distress. A freshly born infant that is limp and blue and hasn’t cried yet. Tripled troponin levels on your sweating and anxious patient as you realize they’re having a heart attack. Feeling cord during a cervical check, then trying to hide from your patient the shaking in your voice as you call for help. The pale skin of a Jehovah’s Witness with a hemoglobin of 4 as she declines a blood transfusion and says goodbye to her family because they haven’t found the source of the bleed and she’s running out of time. A blood alcohol level of .18 on a 4 year old who is barely responsive and being intubated after getting drunk on mouthwash and then hitting his head. An elderly woman in the ICU signing her DNR while her sobbing daughter begs her to reconsider, knowing if treatment is stopped then her mother will die. A child in the pediatric ICU who hasn’t had a visitor in months. Not being able to find the heartbeat on a pregnant mom who hasn’t felt the baby move in a while. In the face of everything else that comes with being a nurse, I promise you’ll get used to the poop.” - Andrea Pellerin
Anatomy & Physiology
So this is just a public service announcement with a story
Last night I was at my hometown gaming store playing (and losing) a Mordheim skirmish when a young man playing Magic: The Gathering had a seizure. The store went into a panic and his friends were particularly distraught, so I went over to make sure things were alright.
They called 911, which in this particular case was a good thing. The young man is a brand new epilepsy patient who has yet to figure out his medication. But if an established epileptic is having a seizure you do not need to call 911 unless they injure their head or neck, or if the seizure lasts longer than 2 minutes.
The major problem was that one friend panicked so much that he wanted to try CPR. I explained that you should not be doing CPR on an epileptic, you could kill them.
Then, being distressed by the sounds of his labored, but normal breathing, his friend attempted to hold his friend’s mouth open. I smacked his hand away and explained that not only will you get bit that way, you could end up helping him break his jaw or choke.
Let epileptics ride their seizure out. Time it, and make sure the area is clear of all objects they could injure themselves on, but do not try to restrict their bodies and for God’s sake do not do cpr.
Me when I started in the ER: WHOO GIVE ME ALL THE SHIFTS I LOVE MEDICINE I’LL WORK TWENTY 12-HOUR SHIFTS THIS MONTH YEAH THIS IS SO GREAT
Me a year in: Yeah okay I’ll work two extra shifts a month so I can pay off my student loans faster
Me two years in: Huh, maybe I’ll just work the minimum twelve shifts a month
Me three years in: Maybe once my loans are paid off I can go part time???
Me right now: Do I really NEED a job????????
