Thinking about how basically the entire strawhat crew is touch starved.
Luffy who's used to cuddling and play fighting and sharing small spaces with his brothers, but he's been without either of them for three years by the time he sets sail. Shanks would hug and carry him as a kid but he's gone, too. Garp only ever hit him for the most part, and we don't really know how Makino was with that stuff. Everyone who would've given him physical affection slowly left the village until it was just him.
Zoro who's simply spent his entire journey more or less alone. Not trusting anyone, not staying anywhere for long, only the occasional ally in a profession of violence. And even when he was a kid his caretaker was a sensei, not a parent, and his best friend was someone he fought with more than anything else. He's probably never had direct, soft affection in his entire life.
Nami who hasn't been in a safe enough position to trust touch for a very long time, always surrounded by enemies and marks, carefully protecting her own dignity while using men's weakness to her advantage. She probably got the occasional hug from Nojiko over the years, when they could sneak away for a moment, but among Arlong's crew touch was undoubtedly a threat to be avoided.
Usopp who's been shunned by his village ever since he was a kid, even as he cried for attention the only way he knew how. Usopp who grew up in an empty house walking empty streets because everyone avoided him or chased him off with a broom. Usopp who couldn't even enter the house of his best friend because her guardian looked down on him so much, and had to wait outside her window. Usopp whose only other friends were little kids he tried to act tough in front of. Usopp who hasn't been held since he was probably six years old.
Sanji who was only ever given soft touch by a mother who died when he was still small, and the occasional hair ruffling or wound-bandaging from Zeff between kicks and yelling. Sanji who resists touch from men and never really succeeds at getting touch from women because he's so desperate. Sanji whose formative years were spent getting beaten senseless and he's had quite enough of that, thank you, being left alone will do just fine. Sanji who puts love into everything he does but is terrified to actually receive it.
Robin who has always been alone in every conceivable way. Always on the run. Betrayed by everyone she received the slightest care from. Hasn't had a friend since she was eight years old and they were all slaughtered. Who never got to know her mother until she died. Sent off on a rowboat with nothing but the memory of someone's laugh. Conniving her way through the world to survive, never trusting, never settling down, never being wanted except "dead or alive."
Chopper who was rejected by his herd, rejected by humanity, only ever accepted by a couple of people his whole life and one of those still shot at him. Doctorine cared for him very much but didn't seem to be the sappy, lovey-dovey type. They lived as teacher and student more than anything else. Chopper who doesn't even believe anyone could want him, because he's too fundamentally ugly and strange.
Brook who literally hasn't been touched or even spoken to in fifty years, languishing in a depth of loneliness that can only be understood as a new form of hell.
Franky and Jinbe are really the only ones who've spent their lives surrounded by friends and allies, despite the trauma they still experienced.
But in conclusion: no WONDER the strawhats sleep in piles and roughhouse and put their arms over each other's shoulders and carry each other and always eat together and bathe together and get devastating separation anxiety. They are all UNBELIEVABLY TOUCH STARVED.
