Part 2
A big shoot out to the wonderful and talented @mimi-maru for this beautiful piece featuring my dear Magnus de Riva and Lucanis Dellamorte. Even the rain can't stop my silly bois from having a good ol smooch on one of Treviso's rooftops...
I always miss out on @dragon-age-met-gala 🫠, so I decided to whip up something real quick. Because of the timing, I kept the designs simple. For rook, her wings are inspired by the iconic Christian Dior gold wing cape. For Lucanis I thought it’d be real sweet if Lucanis’s corvid cloak evolved to include stitching inspired by Rook’s motif, like Minrathous symbolism and dove imagery..... I didn’t have time to design that part, but if you can do me a favor and just imagine it that'd be dope.
The two Godslayers and heroes of the Sixth Blight, arriving straight from Treviso for the @dragon-age-met-gala. Lucanis Dellamorte, First Talon of the Antivan Crows. By his side, his Right Hand and husband, Magnus de Riva. Art piece by @hell-alka. Their outfits are my personnal designs.
throwback to that one time i thought it was a good idea to change rivain’s battle music to pirates of the caribbean
A special shout out to Grey Enchanter (BluSky ; Instagram) for this beautiful piece featuring Magnus and Lucanis. My bois are enjoying a peaceful morning in Treviso...
A shoot out to the wonderful @point-maitimo who has done it again with Magnus and Lucanis. This time, my bois are taking a break under a tree. Really loving the colors in this.
Stop warning me about mature content I'm literally an adult
A big shout out to the wonderful @yelenhol for this amazing B&W AU art piece where Magnus and Lucanis have turned into a hitman and his mob boss during the 1920's. I usually describe Magnus as a human teddy bear with a mabari personality, seeing him with a grumpy face certainly feels weird... ^^
"And I heard your voice As clear as day And you told me I should concentrate"
Did I go insane? Yep. Maybe. But hey... I've wanted to draw that fifth page since last year's March. Happy belated bday, DA2, you're everything.
The art style, on this... *O*
My new aesthetic commission. The tenderness between Virineya and Lucanis. Oh, how beautifully her hair flows like a waterfall over the grape-colored pillows... Full version on my Bluesky 💜 If you are interested in a commission please send me an email to
My rook (filthy tea drinker) offering him iced tea.
My personal AU outfit for him, Lucanis in body-con top can cure me. I mean it sure cured me of my art burnout.
Rookanis Week - Day 6: Dreams / Growing old
After the gods’ defeat, Magnus and Lucanis are simply enjoying each other and life as it comes their way. As a Crow, Magnus knows what the rank of First Talon means and they are both ready to face the consequences together. Eight months after the battle of Minrathous, Lucanis would propose to his Rook. The subsequent ceremony would make the headlines of Thedas for several weeks.
To assure the survival of House Dellamorte, Lucanis and Magnus would officially become Jacobus’ tutors. Through their wedding, this would mean an alliance between Dellamorte, de Riva and Egrativi. As such, thirty years later, Magnus and Lucanis, now more than 60 years old both, would withdraw from the Crows and let Jacobus take over as the new First Talon.
The two men would then retire in the Antivan countryside. Far from any intrigue or machination, enjoying each other for the rest of their days.
Lucanis would pass away first after turning 80. Free from his bond, Spite would choose to remain in the real world and watch over Magnus. Rook would join his love in the following year, releasing the spirit of Determination for good. Â Â Â

An Invitation from the First Talon
Rook,
House Egrativi welcomed two more orphans today. Heir is still training them. Jacobus sends his regards and considers his house owes yours a lot. He hopes they can remain allies with de Riva, or at least be "friendly rivals". Viago's influence no doubt...
Since the situation with Ivenci is finally taken care of, what would you say to a quiet evening while we have a moment to catch our breath?
The Dellamorte Estates have a beautiful pond with several gondolas. I was thinking of a little tour on the water while enjoying the scenery together.
Let me know.
Your Talon.Â
***Â
(An additional note, written by Rook later on:)
Well, between the food, the wine and the company, it definitely was a night to remember. Especially the moment when the gondola capsized and sent us both overboard. Soaked and hip deep into the water, that didn't stop us from laughing it off out loud. The embrace and the long kiss that followed made it even more memorable.
Maker... I never thought I would fall so hard for anyone. The feel of my hand in his hair. The taste of his mouth in mine. His smile when we’re together. The softness of his voice and that damn look in his eyes just piercing through my heart like a dagger... I want him whole. More than anything else in the world. Another reason to slain the gods for good. When it’s done, we’ll finally move on. Together.
For you and for us, my Talon.
***
(While you're adjusting your gear for the final fight, you find a folded note in one of your pockets:)
Rook,
I am writing this in the expectation that the battle ahead would provide little chance to talk.
During those dreaded days when you were locked away in the Fade, I became restless, but most of all angry, enraged even. A cold fury slowly building up. At first, I thought something was up with Spite but I quickly noticed that he had shut down completely as he was actually mourning you. This rage was all mine. I was angry at myself for failing to protect you and being powerless to get you out. When you emerged from that rift, I felt my heart bursting in a way I never thought possible, confirming what I was just too afraid to fully admit. You are the one I love. My first love, and hopefully my last, for years to come.
I don’t know what the future as First Talon holds for Spite and I, my house or the Crows. But, if the Maker offers us a new tomorrow, there is one thing I am sure and adamant about, you will be part of that future.
The assassination of my parents, my training under Caterina, my life as a Crow, the Ossuary… All my life has been decided for me. You are the first choice I have ever made for myself. Last night, when I came to your room, I let my guard down on your doorstep and opened myself to you completely. To feel vulnerable is something I usually dread. But in the warmth of your arms, your skin against mine as we became one? It felt incredible to finally let go.
You saw and embraced every part of me without ever flinching. Though I did all I could to keep you away (and failing masterfully). You are determined and committed in everything you do. Not only did you help me to get my life back but you also gave me a new lease on it. Today, I am making the promise to do everything in my power so we can share it together.
Tracking down a wyvern in Orlais, restoring the Crows’ good name in Ferelden, sharing a family dinner with Caterina, or simply staying in bed long beyond reason… You name it. Because living truly is living fully, with you. Please, come back to me.
I love you. Now and forever.
Your Talon.

Lucanis paused a second and propped on an elbow to look and speak directly at Magnus.
“And I said I cared only about the present but… After seeing your place, and this story as a whole? It gave me an idea for the future.”
“What’s on your mind?”
“We have the Lighthouse which is nice and cozy but it’s in the Fade and not really ours. We can crash to the Dellamorte’s estate whenever we want but we can bump into my grandmother and my cousin anytime. So, what would you say to look for our place when we get back to Treviso?”
“I say I’d like that,” Rook smiled.
The Talon smiled back and reached out to kiss him. Magnus circled his arms around him and put his hand behind Lucanis’ neck to bring him even closer.
“Any part of town that you fancy more?” Rook asked when they separated.
“As long as we’re together, I don’t care,” he whispered while rubbing a thumb into Magnus’ braids.
“All on me, then?”
“Well, on you, might actually be my favorite part of town,” he smirked.
“Just shut up,” Rook sighed.
And they kissed again as the night was engulfing the Wastes and the oasis.
***
Just as Magnus and Viago shared a heartful embrace, the First Talon and Jacobus appeared at the entrance of the room.
“Ah! You made it…”
“Thank the Maker for Teia. I don’t know how she did it but she’s kept Caterina off my back for most of the morning.”
“I thought we were supposed to meet Rook at the Chantry,” Jacobus said, a bit confused.
“There is one small development that we need to take care of in private before the ceremony,” Magnus explained. “Something that the First Talon and the Head of House de Riva must approve of.”
“Which we already have,” Lucanis added.
Magnus then put a knee down to speak to Jacobus face to face.
“Lucanis and I basically took you under our wings since we met during Dareth’s contract. And we’ve kept watching over you and your House from the moment you founded it over a year ago. Since you always call me “your very big brother”, what would you say to make it official?”
“How would that work?”
“Magnus and I would become your tutors. Or whatever you want to call it. As for our Houses, they would remain as they are, but cemented in an alliance between Dellamorte, de Riva and Egrativi.”
“I found a family among the Crows. So why not making it real for you? And I told you that I’d find a way to pay you back after the whole Fargus’ mess.”
Still stunned by the news, Jacobus then jump onto Magnus’ neck. The Spellblade laughed and circled him with his arms.
“We’ll still need to write it down to make it real,” Viago reminded them. “But right now, there is a more pressing De Riva and Dellamorte business to take care of.”
Everyone agreed and they all left the attic room for the Chantry.
***
Treviso’s Chantry was the epitome of the city’s gothic architecture. Archways, statues, stained glass windows, soaring ceilings… The place was magnificent. With little family they had left, most of the gathering were Crows from different Houses. The first row, however, was filled with the Veilguard members, the last Dellamorte and the factions’ leaders who had helped against the Evanuris.
Magnus and Lucanis had trusted Emmrich to be their master of ceremony. Once everyone seemed to be there, the Mourn Watcher signaled to sit down and the ceremony began:
“Friends, family and acquaintances… We are all gathered here today to celebrate the union of Lucanis Dellamorte and Magnus de Riva. If I have learnt one lesson in my life, it’s that, sometimes, beauty can be born from the darkest and unexpected places. This is exactly what I beheld with Magnus and Lucanis. Amidst the chaos of your encounter, I saw you two becoming a beacon of light and warmth in the cold darkness we were facing. Not only for each other but also for those around you. From a blossoming romance, I saw you maturing and building a strong relationship. I am glad to be the witness of such a beautiful story and to call you both my friends.”
Magnus and Lucanis thanked him with a nod and a teary eye while the audience also clapped in approval.
“Now is the time for you to declare your vows to one another. You first, Lucanis…”
Both men joined hands and looked at each other. Lucanis cleared his throat, clearly overwhelmed:
“Magnus, you met me while I was in the deepest darkness of my life. Not only you never let them keeping you away but you persistently tried to pierce through them. Against all odds and against any notion of rationality. Because that is just what you do best: facing the impossible and winning. You saw and embraced every part of me without ever flinching. You are determined and committed in everything you do. Not only did you help me to get my life back but you also gave me a new lease on it. Today, I am making the promise to do everything in my power so we can share it together. From this day forth, I swear to cherish you and every second spent by your side. Because living truly is living fully, with you. I love you, my Rook.”
Another round of applause concluded Lucanis’ speech.
“Magnus?” Emmrich asked.
“Well, no pressure, after something like that,” he smiled with his eyes glistening. He could feel his hands shaking around his Talon’s.
“Lucanis, all my life I had this void in me and I was looking for the one thing to fill it. A place, a person, a purpose… I didn’t know what I was searching. Until I met you. Then, it all clicked. I had met a man who needed my help. I had found a new purpose. As I grew to know you more, I slowly discovered, under these layers of gloom, a caring and kind-hearted man. More than a purpose, that’s when I began to fall for you: the person I had been looking for all this time. It was definitely a twisted road to get there but I don’t regret it. Because I know that whatever life throws at us, we’ll have each other to face it. Not even gods managed to keep us apart. I will always find my way back home, back to you. Now and forever, I am yours, my Talon.”
An applause also concluded his vows.
“Now, my friends, the time has come to exchange your rings.”
Manfred then appeared with a cushion where were displayed two wedding rings. The skeleton was wearing a classier version of his usual coat, tailored this time in a burgundy velvet. Someone had managed to make him sport a bow tie.
“Friendly hiss. Shiny!”
“Lucanis Dellamorte, do you take Magnus de Riva to be your husband?”
“Lo quiero.”
“And you, Magnus de Riva, do you take Lucanis Dellamorte to be your husband?”
“I do.”
They helped each other to adjust their rings before looking back at Emmrich.
“Then, by the power you entrusted me with, you, my dear friends, are now united by the bonds of marriage.”
With a smile on both of their faces, the two men leaned toward one another. Magnus put a hand behind Lucanis’ neck as their lips touched. The feeling of Lucanis’ hands on his back and his chest sent shivers through his spine. And, judging by the shudders running through his Talon, the feeling was mutual.
Their kiss dragged them down into a haze. Only when they broke out, that the applause from the gathering brought them back to reality. Magnus then dropped his forehead to Lucanis’.
“I love you…” he whispered.
“Tambien. Siempre.”
As much as they didn’t want to end this blissful moment, they still had a ceremony to wrap up. They addressed the ongoing applause with some smiles. Their guests soon got up to leave the Chantry and celebrate the two husbands as they were stepping outside.
“I hope you’re ready for the next part,” Lucanis whispered.
“That’s going to be quite the festivities after that, yeah…”
“Oh, that part comes after. We are talking about THIS!”
Magnus then felt Lucanis lifting him up in a show of superhuman strength. With no time to react to Spite’s possession, the Spellblade circled an arm around his Talon’s neck and they took off when he secured Magnus by placing an arm under his knees to carry him.
“HANG ON!”
Magnus couldn’t tell clearly if that was Spite or Lucanis talking, probably both at the same time. In an instant, they were soaring above the roofs of Treviso. The warm midday sun and air brushing their skin with a soft caress. Lucanis kept gaining altitude in a smoother ascension. They soon reached the height of the most imposing spires in the city. It’s toward one of them that Lucanis and Spite were taking Magnus. A minute later they landed softly on a balcony circling the base of its bulbous summit.
“You’re crazy,” Magnus said with an exhilarated smile.
“Taash actually gave me that idea a while back…”
“You do know that they’re going to look everywhere for us, right?”
“By the time they decide to go to the Dellamorte estate, we’ll already have enjoyed a few dances in the ballroom just by ourselves,” Lucanis smirked.
“And I’m pretty sure we just gave Bellara enough material for a full serial…”
“It hasn’t stopped her before. And, as long as I have you all for myself, she can write all the fantasies she wants.”
Lucanis then dragged him into another ardent kiss. And this time, no ceremony would stop them from enjoying one another. When they separated, Magnus put his arms around his waist and Lucanis simply nestled against his strong torso.
“The first time we met, did you think we’d be there a year and a half later?”
“Did I think that I would fall in love and marry the complete stranger that rampaged a Venatori secret underwater prison only to ask me to kill a pair of elven gods?” Lucanis smirked.
“Point taken,” Magnus laughed.
“I didn’t know what the future held then and I still don’t today. But, whether it’s for tracking down a wyvern in Orlais, restoring the Crows’ good name in Ferelden, sharing a simple family dinner with Caterina, or just staying in bed way too long… I know we’ll be together. And that’s the only certitude I need.”
“So do I,” Rook whispered softly.
Entwined with one another, they let the sun of Treviso blessing them with its warmth. Just the two of them, together, on top of their city, their home. All would be fine. Check Zach Mendez Cameo!
Thanks to @rookanis-week for hosting this!
Rookanis Week - Day 5 (Part 2): Spite
Spite is basically Magnus and Lucanis’ demonic cat. He has always taken a shine into Rook and has grown into a protector of their relationship though he’s staying out of the relationship itself.
Samples from my fic series: The Rook and the Talon.
“Rook? RooOoooOk? ROOK!”
“Mmmmh?” Magnus growled.
When his mind fully resurfaced, he found himself staring directly into a pair of glowing purple eyes.
“Yeah, Spite. What is it?”
“Rook kept. Secret. Hid truth. From Lucanis.”
“That’s why it’s called a surprise.”
“Lucanis. Doesn’t know. Why. Here?”
“No. And keep it quiet. Let him sleep,” he whispered. “The journey has exhausted him.”
With a tender gesture, he ran his hand through Lucanis’ hair while Spite’s glow was fading away.
“He thinks. You. Cuddle Him. Too much,” the demon said.
“Maybe. But he’s worth it. You both are.”
Almost silently, Spite then materialized and spread his wings to cover the two men under a protective and warm embrace.
***
Lucanis and Magnus were observing what appeared to be a camp, nestled in the shade of some rock formation.
“And they look like Venatori. Not sure these are the ones we’re actually looking for though.”
“They will do fine for target practice. And we might just find clues about the rest of them.”
“My thoughts exactly”, Magnus confirmed. “How do you want to proceed? The sun is about to set. We wait a bit and strike when it’s dark?”
“Works for me.”
Lucanis then spotted Spite smelling the air in the direction of the Tevinter cultists.
“Yes. Easy preys. Blood and flesh. Soon turned to tears and ashes…”
“Your stepson agrees,” he sighed.
“Well, if the whole family in on the same page… Let’s keep an eye on them. Just in case others would show up.”
And the wait began. Lucanis’ words gave Magnus something to reflect on. If the relationship between Spite and the Talon still had its bumps here and there, the cohabitation with the demon was going way much smoother now than during their fight with the Evanuris. He definitely listened more to Rook than Lucanis, probably because of their less antagonistic history. It became even more evident when the two men truly began their relationship. When confronted to a new situation, the spirit would spontaneously and unsurprisingly ask questions. If Lucanis usually stone-walled him, Magnus tried to take the time to answer it without going into the most private details. Which would have brought even more complex concepts to explain and made things awkward on top of it.
After Tearstone Island, during their first night, both of them had noticed his purely protective intervention. This had happened a few other times in different contexts since. Strangely, he had never asked any questions about their most intimate moments. By extrapolation with their basic kisses, he might had understood by himself that this was a thing mortals simply did. The strong emotions emanating from them in these moments might have helped too, spirits could sense them strongly after all. A basic lack of interest was also a possibility, since he usually vanished when they were together. In any case, both of them were more than pleased to not have to explain that particular topic to a spirit of determination.
***
When Magnus and Lucanis both stepped foot in front of the first step, a snapping sound resonated in the chamber. Both of them were suddenly incapacitated as green strings of Veil energy materialized, out of the ground, to keep them from going further by tying down their arms and legs. Lucanis spread his wings but a new bunch of magical strings snared him even harder.Â
“Have the Crows’ standards fallen so low? I expected better from the First Demon and his fellow Godslayer.”
The masked assassin then came to them.
“You didn’t even notice that someone was watching you since you entered the Wastes. Maybe next time you should pay more attention to what is happening outside of your tent instead of shagging one another under it. Also…”
He moved towards Magnus and stared intensely at him.
“The pictures in the papers had left me uncertain but now… The ginger hair, the scar, the lightning magic… And judging by the look in your eyes, I think you remember me. I certainly didn’t forget you either. Neither did my face with that damn electric spell of yours. The altus will be pleased to see this contract finally completed.”
These last words got Lucanis’ attention. He detached from his belt a small coin of golden metal shaped and engraved to look like a scarab. He placed it onto Magnus’ forehead and the insect’s engravings glowed with a green shimmer. A second later, the Spellblade let out a grunt of pain and his eyes rolled, rendering him unconscious. His Veil bindings vanished as he collapsed to the ground. The assassin gathered Magnus’ orb and mageknife before grabbing the collar of his coat.
“Get off your hands from OUR Rook!”
The demonic echo from Spite showed itself near the end of Lucanis’ warning.
“My altus will find a use to your lover, Demon. He’ll probably be alive if you see him again.”
He pressed a medallion which had been concealed under his cape. Lucanis wasn’t sure but the symbols on it looked like Elgar’nan’s. A maelstrom of Veil energy then formed behind the killer and he walked through it by dragging Magnus with him. When the two of them vanished, the green portal sealed itself right after them. The magical strings tying Lucanis down finally dissipated. Shaken up, he needed a few seconds to assimilate everything that had just happened. He had regained his freedom, but Magnus, his Rook, was gone.
Spite materialized in front of him. The silence of the demon spoke ten times louder than his facial expression.
“I hope you are ready for the hunt of a lifetime,” Lucanis said with a grim look.
Spite would have usually smiled after hearing that kind of promise. But instead, he simply nodded with an angry frown.
Host and demon merged again and flew swiftly out of the sanctuary. Their contract had just begun.
***
Lucanis walked up to Magnus, just at the edge of his Tempest. The two men, stared at each other for a second. Seeing only an apathic blankness in the eyes of his lover instead of his usual cheerful and peaceful green look felt like a dagger across Lucanis’ heart. Just when Magnus moved to make another throw, he closed his eyes.
“I’m giving you the reins. Bring him back…” He thought.
The scorpion ripped through the air, going straight for the Talon’s head… but, instead, rebounded onto a wall of spectral feathers. When the second one flew off as well, Spite, fully in control, opened up his wings and caught it mid-air. His purple energy was surging from Lucanis eyes and formed an aura all around him. The electricity conducted through the scorpion sparkled against it as it was acting like a barrier. Then, with a swift gesture, Spite snapped the blade from its chain and thrown it back to Magnus who dodge it before invoking a new spell. A well of thunder formed around him and he extended his arms in front of him. Two beams of magical lightning blasted from his hands. Spite folded his wings all around him like a shield. In the backseat of his own mind, Lucanis could feel the demon taking in and focusing the spell’s energy.
Not far, Abel was taking advantage of the battle with the demons, and its chaos, to circle around them. He was almost right behind Magnus when he unleashed his beams. He saw Spite wings turning white as they were absorbing the spell. Now was the time. He detached two smoke grenades from his belt and sent them right under Magnus. The two spheres then delivered a thick fog that disrupted his concentration. The beams and the Tempest almost immediately dissipated. Â
In a burst of absolute rage, Spite let out a demonic scream and spread his wings. They started to glow as he was extending them backwards.
“ROOK. MUST. COME. BACK !!!” He screamed.
He then threw himself and his wings forward, ejecting a real shower of energy projectiles onto Magnus, powerful enough to push him back out of the smoke screen. Stunned, the Spellblade had no time to parry: Lucanis, back in control, arose suddenly in front of him with the lyrium dagger. He slashed through his facial mask in a move of surgical precision, shattering it in two parts with multiple shards of fuming metal. Finally free of his hindering, Lucanis had just heard a plaintive grunt coming out of Magnus as he was falling on his face, unconscious.
“Lo siento, vida…” he panted.
As much as he wanted to, a fireball kept him from checking on Rook, as the altus was now targeting him, a grim look on his face.
“Your turn…” The Talon said while pointing a dagger at him.
***
The summer sun had already been warming up the countryside for some time when Lucanis woke up. He opened his eyes, only to find Magnus inches away from him, lying down on his stomach, his face buried between several pillows. The Spellblade was soundly asleep: his body was slowly moving to the rhythm of his deep breaths. His massive right arm was laid down across Lucanis’ torso. The Talon smiled and gently freed himself to get out of bed.
In silence, he dressed up with a basic and casual outfit: some leather pants, a linen shirt and a pair of boots. Spite chose this moment to show up.
“Rook. All right?”
“Yes. He’s just tired. I’m getting us some breakfast. Knowing Magnus, that should give him the boost he needs.”
He turned his gaze toward the demon.
“Thank you for your intervention last night. That fight would have went very differently otherwise. Did you hear our conversation, just before we slept?”
“Spite hears everything. When Rook and Lucanis go to bed. Always leave them alone. Too much feelings. Too bright for Spite.”
“Thank you for that too. What do you think of what we talked?”
“Rook protects us. We protect Rook.”
“Try to make him understand that last part,” Lucanis smirked. “He’s a Spellblade and a de Riva: he didn’t get his nickname for nothing.”
After an affectionate kiss onto Magnus’ braids, he left the bedroom and found his way to the kitchens.
Thanks to @rookanis-week for hosting this!
Rookanis Week - Day 5 (Part1): Family
Magnus never had any family. He was sold as a servus when he was 3 yo and doesn’t know where he’s from. House de Riva became his family when he was 15 but he always missed that special connection. That sense of belonging telling him he’s actually home. That’s what he found with Lucanis. The Dellamorte family, or its remnants more like, is another matter.
Samples from my fic series : The Rook and the Talon.
The sun was already quite high above the mesa when Lucanis finally opened his eyes.
“Good morning, my Talon. Slept well?”
“Overslept well, more like,” he said while noticing that the daylight was fully up. “Weren’t we supposed to wake up at dawn?” he frowned.
“I was. But I didn’t wake you up. You needed to rest.”
“Fair point.”
“I won’t lie. Waking up like this is definitely more pleasant than having Caterina around to throw us out of bed…”
“We really need some actual sleeping furniture in that meditation chamber,” acknowledged the Talon.
“As long as she’s throwing that kind of daggers at me, it’s probably for the best to avoid the Dellamorte’s villa.”
“She’s like that with almost everyone. Even me. Don’t pay too much attention to it.”
“That last conversation about “the continuity of your House” had quite a double meaning to it though.”
“Houses can grow through multiple ways. Adoption among others. You are a fine example of that”.
“True. There’s also our demonic stepson. We’re more or less two uncle figures to Assan and Manfred. And we basically raised Jacobus for the last few months,” he listed. “Quite the extended family, already.”
Rook was smiling and joking but Lucanis knew that his grandmother’s attitude was troubling him more than he let on.
“You don’t have to worry. It’s a whole new dynamic for her too. She’ll get used to it. And she sees that you make me happy. So, even if she doesn’t like it, she won’t have much of a choice. You have me, now. Siempre.”
The Talon then leaned in for a kiss and Magnus responded by putting his right hand on the back of his neck. In a strong but gentle embrace, he pressed Lucanis' body against his and slowly rolled over his side with him. Getting up had been postponed indefinitely.
***
Lucanis walked through the empty halls of his family’s villa. Despite his best intentions to honor the legacy of his House, this place always reminded him of its current state: powerful in appearance but depleted and empty at heart. And he hated it. One of the two reasons why Magnus and he rarely spent time here. The second being the two persons living here. Caterina had made her dislike of Magnus increasingly known. She had tolerated him at first, probably thinking he was just a fling, a fleeting romance born out of a near-death experience. But her demeanor had clearly shifted when she understood that he wouldn’t be leaving anytime soon.
As for the other resident of the villa…
The First Talon took a turn into the guest wing to finally reach the door he was looking for. He saluted the Crow guarding it and entered. Illario was sitting in front of a desk, busy reading one of the novels the staff brought him regularly.
Lucanis had chosen this place to keep him locked down out of practical necessity, nuanced by some suggestions from Viago. Having him in the guest wing would remind him of what he could have without ever owning it. The practical reason was to keep him away as much as possible from the main areas of the villa where he could cross paths with Caterina or Rook.
His grandmother’s resentment was one thing but Magnus’ was probably the worst, despite his usually laidback nature. It was him, after all, who had suggested to lock Illario up. Lucanis had assumed that this grudge came from Rook’s feelings towards him. A manifestation of his protective demeanor. But now, after what he’d discovered about Magnus’ past? The treason, the ambition spiraling into pure chaos… The pieces were fitting all too well.
***
Another Crow actually made his entrance.
“Ah! I thought you didn’t receive my message,” Lucanis said when Illario showed up.
“I did. But, I got caught up on the way here…”
He stood aside and Caterina appeared from behind his back.
“I told you we would talk, my boy…”
“And like always, your timing is one of a kind.”
Illario sensed things were about to get tensed and left them to their conversation. He took the direction of the meeting table nearby.
Caterina swept a glacial stare across the room before focusing again on her grandson.
“Releasing that disgrace of Illario is one thing but mobilizing three whole Houses to rescue one Crow?”
“That Crow saved my life and yours. He fought the Venatori and exposed Illario. He defended this city against a blighted dragon, the Antaam and a corrupted ruler.”
“I am not depreciating his deeds for Treviso or our family. But you must come to the realization that you are overreact…”
“All right… Last but not least, he saved the whole continent by defeating three ancient mages with god-like powers. Will this finally satisfy you or do you want me to continue?”
“You are not thinking rationally, Lucanis…”
“ENOUGH !”
A demonic echo deformed his voice and a purple glow glimmered in his gaze for an instant. He took a second and looked at his grandmother with a new fire burning in his eyes.
“First, House Velardo, then you, then the Venatori…” he listed. “All my life has always been decided for me. Magnus is the first choice I have ever made for myself. You weren’t there when he broke me out of the Ossuary. From the moment I set foot into the Lighthouse, he was always there with a kind word or just listening to me. He gave me back my life in every way possible. And more…”
He stopped for a moment, gathering his thoughts, and a smirk appeared on his face.
“And you know what? You’re right. I am not thinking rationally. Because there is nothing rational in our relationship. During our fight against the gods, I kept pushing him away and, yet, he kept piercing through my walls. I gave him, Maker knows, dozens of occasions to walk out on me but he never gave up. He kept backing me up, reassuring me. For weeks and months, I have ached to finally open up to him. To give him back what he had already given to me. When I finally did, for the first time in my life, I made myself vulnerable. And it felt good beyond reason. Like I had finally found a new home. Only with him, do I allow myself to let my guard down, because he is my sanctuary. He always finds his way through impossible odds, whatever they are. Like I am about to do for him today.”
Lucanis began to walk back towards the eluvian. The First Talon then took one last look toward his grandmother.
“That you approve him or not, I don’t care. You put me in charge. And I have decided to save him my way. I love him. And I won’t let him down. Not today. Not ever.”
He swirled on his feet and left the Diamond to join the others into the Crossroads.
***
The Veilguard entered the Crows’ sanctum under a thunderous welcome. Members from all Houses cheered and applauded as they walked into the Cantori Diamond.
Despite towering above most of the people in the room, Magnus definitely felt small in that instant. He thanked everyone the best he could, considering the size of the crowd, by nodding and waving. He definitely was more than happy to have Lucanis by his side to share the burden of so much praise. As the team got closer to the main table of the sanctum, the clamor became quieter with the entrance of Caterina. Teia, Viago and Illario were standing behind her when she approached Rook and Lucanis. An uneasy sensation settled as she stopped right next to Rook, her face as still and unreadable as ever. She reached then for Magnus’ shoulder, where she landed a benevolent hand.      Â
“Welcome home, my boys.”
Her gaze had swept both men together but she had paused and waited to look directly at Magnus to deliver the second half of her greeting. If the whole commotion of his return had not completely overwhelmed him, the Spellblade definitely was now. Smiling with a teary eye was all he could do while Caterina was taking them to the Talons’ table.  Â
“To Magnus and Lucanis,” she toasted with a cup of wine.
“To Magnus and Lucanis!” The others repeated.
Groups started to form and chat across the sanctum. Jacobus then emerged from the crowd:
“Hey, Rook.”
“Hey, Jacobus. I heard you’ve been busy.”
“My House simply helped the best it could.”
“And succeeded.”
“I was not going to lose my very big brother like I lost Dareth.”
Lucanis and Magnus smiled when they heard the nickname. The latter kneeled down and took Jacobus in a heartfelt embrace.
“I’ll still think of something to pay you back. You know that, right?” Rook smiled with a gentle shake of the young Crow’s shoulder.
“Of course, you will…”
They all laughed and Magnus went on to join Viago. But Caterina grabbed her grandson by the arm.
“It will only take a moment,” she assured him.
She took him a bit further away while Magnus started keeping up with the Head of his House. Â
“So, the Phantom is dead, huh?”
“His mask has already been claimed as a memento, I’m afraid.”
“Good. Because I can definitely live without it.”
“Illario keeps jesting. But it’s due in no small part to him that we took Cavalli down.”
“He pulled some impressive acrobatics that gave Viago and I an opening…”
“Did he, now? I am surprised Lucanis let you out.”
“You and me both. My cousin must really love you.”
“Well… Since we’re all making sacrifices for the family…”
Magnus extended his arm in a gesture that surprised everyone. After a second where he froze still, Illario firmly shook the hand presented in front of him. Â Â
“And just so you know… Try anything fancy against Lucanis and I’ll tear you apart myself this time,” Magnus said in a tone between warning and jester.
“I would not expect anything less from a Spellblade.”
The scene between Rook and Illario had not gone unnoticed by the other two Dellamorte.
“Looks like there is more than one victory tonight,” Lucanis said.
“And I am glad to see it. It also means that my work with you is over.”
“Don’t tell me this was one of your…”
“It was not a test, my boy. Just a final observation of how you are handling your new mantle. You are doing things in your own way. I do not always agree, as it is expected when giving the reins. However, I am glad to see that you are able to stand your ground when necessary.”
“Thank you, Abuelita…”
“Now go. Don’t lose time with me. And I expect to see both of you, the next time you decide to visit.”
These last words from his grandmother made Lucanis smile. He nodded and joined the others. When he got by Magnus’ side, the Spellblade smiled at him and circled his arm around his shoulders. His warmth and touch made Lucanis shiver.
***
“Lucanis, please. I would like a moment alone with Magnus.”
Despite her polite tone, it didn’t feel like Caterina was leaving them an actual choice. Magnus’ gaze crossed Lucanis’ and he nodded at him: he got this.
“I’ll be waiting in the main hall.”
Once her grandson had left the room, she invited Magnus to sit with her in front of a fireplace. Â
“You know I have my reserves about you, Magnus.”
“Straight to the point…”
“But, I also see the effect you have on Lucanis.”
“I am not pulling any strings on him, if that’s what you’re saying. His thoughts and decisions are his own.”
“Perhaps, but you certainly gave him more confidence in himself. He’s grown out of his shell since he met you. He has forged a mind of his own. That makes me wonder… What do you see in him?”
“I see him for who he is and not what he is. Not your grandson nor the First Talon nor an abomination. All I see is a caring and good-hearted man. That is the person I always saw and that I am trying to make him see everyday.”
“And that was enough for you to fall in love with him?”
“When we met, I saw a deeply scarred and troubled man who had walled himself for protection. As I was peeling all these layers of doom, I slowly discovered the beautiful soul beneath it. You know my past. Where I come from. He was the missing piece I had been yearning for years.”
A moment of silence engulfed the room.
“I know you’re worrying about the continuation of your House. Lucanis and I will find a way. I trust him. In every way possible. As you should too.” Â
“I can see that… You may go, Magnus.”

Rookanis Week 2026 - Day 4: Relaxation / Peace
Given they are both Crows, Magnus and Lucanis can train together. The interest is double: it allows them to blow off some steam while perfecting their combat technics.
Otherwise, they relax by enjoying basic things together. Keeping things simple is their favorite way to unwind.
A simple stroll through Treviso’s markets, admiring the city sights from its rooftops, or just relaxing together by enjoying the peace and quiet.
Magnus is a reader: adventure novels and serials especially (with an occasional side of romance). As a Spellblade, treaties about lightning magic and magical combat melee are also on his shelves, right next to the personal diaries he keeps about his past contracts.
One of his passions, is also stargazing. Starring at the night’s sky was among the only ways for Magnus to escape reality during his days as a fugitive in Tevinter, after his master’s death. The habbit stuck when he joined the Crows.
He dragged Lucanis into these two hobbies. Reading especially. Lucanis loves listening to Magnus’ voice telling him stories.

Logbook 1
Dawn:
- Exercises with Rook
- Breakfast
Late afternoon:
- Exercises with Rook
- Meeting with Bellara (Lighthouse and eluvians)
Rook joined me in my training sessions. Sparring with a fellow Crow and a mage turned out to be very instructive ("fast as lightning" certainly took a more literal turn today). We should do it again.

Logbook 2
Dawn:
- Exercises with Rook
- Breakfast
A year locked up and I had almost forgotten how deadly mageknives can be in capable hands. Rook certainly knows how to make them dance. Analysing and dissecting our training sessions together is really efficient. I like that.

Logbook 5
Late Evening:
- Exercises with Rook
We pushed ourselves harder than usual while training tonight. At some point, we both freezed with our knives just inches away from our throats, Rook slightly leaning over me, out of breath. As time itself seemed to stop around us, locked in each other eyes, I surprised myself reaching out for him and pressing my lips against his. He responded by putting gently his hand on my neck and pulling me to him. All I remember after that is Rook smiling at me and whispering "I love you, my Talon." before kissing me back.
Our first kiss. This stolen moment now belongs to the two of us.

“To pass the time, I took the book for the next club meeting. According to Bellara, it is the perfect balance between romance and adventure.”
“A story that can fully content both of us? Now, I’d like to see that,” he smirked.
The elf had chosen that book right before they left for the Wastes. Magnus was sure there was some sort of vaguely hidden message in there.
And, just like that, here they were. Sipping some Antivan red while reading a story of love and adventure by the heat of a campfire, in the middle of nowhere. Just the two of them.
As his reading went on, Magnus could feel the head of his Talon becoming increasingly heavy against his chest. The usual side effect of his calm, deep, slightly raspy voice.
“All right, that's enough for tonight,” he said softly. “Your eyelids are so heavy that you could sink like a stone in Treviso's canals”.
He gave him a gentle push to get him up and they both prepared to go to bed. Magnus took off his coat and boots to remain shirtless while Lucanis replaced his armor with a thick wool blanket to protect him against the chill of the Hissing Wastes. The ground under the tent had been covered with a Redcliffe bear skin. Magnus crawled there first and Lucanis followed, nestling wherever he could next to his imposing lover.
***
The summit of the spire was also Magnus’ favorite spot to watch the stars at night. As summer was unfolding, it also meant it was the season for shooting star showers. The couple had taken the habit to get themselves comfortable into this chaise, chatting, laughing, having a meal, a drink or a snack while contemplating the celestial dome above them. If Lucanis enjoyed the show very much so, his favorite part was definitely to spend an evening nestled against Magnus. More than once, the comforting embrace of the Spellblade had sent him to sleep in a blink. Often, he’d wake up in their bed where Magnus had carried him or in the chaise, wrapped in his arms and a blanket, because he didn’t want to wake his Talon up.Â
They laid down on the chaise, backing themselves up with the pile of cushions Magnus had set up. They were finishing their first glass of wine when some shooting stars began to show up for a fleeting moment.
“What do you think they actually are, up there?”
“I don’t know. There are just too many theories and folk legends about them. My favorite is that they’d be soulmates who passed away and are now reunited, spending eternity together.”
“Romantic…”
“I’m trying,” Magnus smirked.Â
“And succeeding,” he teased.
Lucanis sat back up and gently took Magnus’ glass off his hands. He put it back with his own on the table and turned to his lover with a smile. He then strode over him before bending down to kiss him with a slow but hungry brush of his lips.
“You know we came here to watch the stars, right?” Magnus smiled when they broke off.
“Didn’t you just say they were lovers forever intertwined? Let’s see how this goes for one night…”
“Not the worst odds we faced…”
“I know,” Lucanis smirked.
The citrus scent from Magnus’ neck was already intoxicating his mind and he could feel his massive hands sneaking onto his lower back. When the Spellblade lined himself under him to wrap him up better into his arms, Lucanis felt his heat and exquisite crush circling him. Magnus’ hands soon found their way under the silk of his nightrobe just as his own fingers were unmaking the buttons of his Rook’s linen shirt. They both gasped when they found themselves skin to skin again. Magnus then rolled on his side and dragged Lucanis with him in a hum.
The starry summer sky was watching over them as Treviso’s life went on all around the spire. The whole city could hear them burning up on that chaise, they couldn’t care less. They were home. They were together. Nothing else mattered.
***
After waking up rather late, Magnus and Lucanis had enjoyed a light lunch. They'd spent the following hour in the gardens. First, with a walk, then, by lying down in some chaise longue under the sun and the shade of a few trees. Magnus reading and holding a book in one hand, his other hand brushing Lucanis’ hair while he was relaxing by his side. A blissful day all around so far. Most likely the calm before the storm. Magnus was almost done with a new chapter when Jacinthe de la Roche came to join them. The two Crows were about to put themselves in a more formal position to greet her when she stopped them.
“Please, messires. I am only here briefly to deliver a message. Don’t stop enjoying yourselves on my account.”
“Your gardens are a blessing, madame.”
“You’re flattering me, dear First Talon. I bring news from our mutual friend, the count of Bouchemet. He’s gathering all his colleagues of the guild for an emergency meeting regarding recent events. He wishes for you two to be part of it.”
“We’ll be in attendance, then.” Lucanis confirmed.
“Perfect. I’ll let him know.”
She got up and left the area to go back inside the estate.
“The less she knows…”
“… the better,” Lucanis finished.
“I just hope that it won’t turn into a blood bath.”
“This is Orlais, so… The only red thicker than wine, here, is blood.” Magnus agreed with a grunt and went back to his reading and brushing. The rest of the afternoon went by, just as peacefully.
