Hi my name is Richard Papen and my parents own an oil well so we're really rich (that's how I got my name) and I have a permanent resting bitch face and big pathetic eyes filled with melancholy and brown hair that I cut myself because I'm too good to go to the barber and a lot of people tell me I look like Jay Gatsby (AN: if u don't know who he is get da hell out of here!). I'm not related to the king of France named Pepin but I wish I was because then maybe Henry Winter will think I'm a major fucking hottie. My teeth are straight and white just like me. I don't have a tan. I'M NOT GAY. I'm also a Classics student, and I go to a liberal arts school called Hampden College in Vermont where I'm in the third year (I'm twenty). I'm a scholar (in case you couldn't tell) and I wear mostly tweed. I love the thrift store (I'm not poor though) and I buy all my clothes from there. For example today I was wearing a tweed overcoat, some vintage cufflinks, and a funny tie with pictures of men hunting deer on it which definitely is not foreshadowing anything. Tomorrow I'm going to wear an old Brooks Brothers silk jacket that used to be my grandfather's. I was walking outside Commons. It was raining and the snow was melting in the mountains, which I was very happy about. A lot of hippies stared at me. I put up my middle finger at them.
The thing about Sherlock Holmes is that practically every adaptation you can think of has been done in some form. Every scenario, format, medium, it’s all there. He has at least three sisters, in varying levels of evilness. He’s been young, he’s been old, he’s been gay, straight, and aro/ace. He’s been Victorian, he’s been modern, he’s been a doctor, an asshole, a woman, a gnome. He’s been frozen in ice a la Steve Rogers and reanimated in the 21st century. He’s fallen off cliffs and in love. He’s thwarted every criminal known to man. He’s done quite literally everything there is to be done and yet there’s always, always more to write.
Hats off to you, Doyle, my admiration is yours, may you loath your own creation with all the vehemence with which we love him.
a sort of survivor's bias of literature causes a lot of people to believe that novels "used to" be of higher quality, greater originality, greater 'effort', greater literary-ness, greater inspiration, &c., than they are to-day
and it's like, well, that is because you're pitting a book published 150 years ago that people still talk about and read to-day, against your average aeroport written-to-spec romance that probably will not be being discussed 150 years from now. if you read the mass-market Grub Street hetslop of the Victorian era I promise you would not like it.
I think I might need to embrace the deception, maybe even learn how to bend?

The fact Shawn and Gus have a whole dance made up for a chocolate room makes me think they’ve either practiced it or they’ve seen more than 1 chocolate room
I hate when people ask me how long it took me to crochet something I’ve made. Frankly, that’s none of my business. I put the yarn on the hook and worked on it whenever the spirit happened to take me to and then one day it was done. How long that process took is between the yarn and god; I want no part of it.
i love you indol
Ive had this saved in my phone since April

the mist has such a fucking sense of humor because it's just like, yeah don't worry, people won't think you're a demigod, they'll just think you're a terrorist. oh by the way you're still 12 though.
