i was thinking about the scene when veronica asks lance if he can help her get a date with his “long haired friend” in refrence to keith and he begins stuttering all nervous and gets defensive. a lot of people interpret this scene as lance covering it up because he has feelings for keith and it’s #klance but what if instead it was lance covering up the fact keith is queer. it’s very contextually obvious keith is queer him being half galra and being treated differently being a metaphor for being queer he is heavily queer coded (even if it may of been unintentional) but either way lance wouldn’t be the type of person to put his friends he wants people to trust him and he cares to much about his friends to the point that homotron n1 keith kogane would even be protected from being outed so instead of telling his sister “sorry man he is gay” he got nervous and flustered trying to think of a way to protect his friend. it kind of adds a little more depth to the scene besides “haha klance” because i truly love klance but at this point in the story lance was a little to in love with allura.

You know how Keith said to Shiro: “If it wasn’t for you, my life would be a lot different”?

The way he says it makes unmistakably clear that he is glad for it. And I’m sure he is!

But imagine him and Krolia in the abyss, getting a vision of Shiro and Keith from the past. Maybe even that moment when Keith was sitting in front of the office after punching James. And it’s still early in their time in the abyss and Keith explains to her who Shiro is. Back on earth, but now the black paladin.

And then he says in the same fond tone: “I wouldn’t be where I am without him. I’d be a very different person.”

Imagine how that would be for Krolia. How devastated and maybe even angry she would feel about it

Keith says it like it’s a good thing. “If not for Shiro, I’d probably be in a miserable place somewhere, wasting my life away.” He’s proud to be here; fighting for the greater good and doing something meaningful, making a difference.

To Krolia, this is a nightmare come true. Everything she did after crash-landing on earth, she did to make sure her baby boy could grow up save and far away from this war.

Yet here her son is, a soldier at the frontlines of the war. Former paladin, now a member of the blades willing die sacrifice whatever he needs.

Keith says it like he is grateful. “If not for Shiro, I’d probably be a much worse person, someone I wouldn’t like myself.” He says it like he is happy to have grown into who he is.

But to Krolia it’s just so painful. She left her chance at peace and the man she loved and her precious child so he could grow up happy and carefree with his father.

Instead he grew up lonely and hurting and when she does meet him again against all odds, he is tinted by anger and resentment and distrust.

Keith talks like his life turned out good in the end despite it all. Like he found purpose and belonging with Shiro and later the paladins and blades and as part of the fight for the good.

To Krolia this is everything she never wanted for him. She sacrificed all she had to give baring her own life and yet it was all for nothing.

I don’t know why, but I never really got the idea that Keith and Acxa had any kind of romantic interest in each other.

When Ezor and Zethrid were teasing acxa about being “down bad for the fluffy haired paladin.” She seemed mostly unfazed if not mildly annoyed. It kinda gave me the same vibes as when Lance was convinced Allura and Keith had something going on and the whole time they were just hanging out. She doesn’t seem to be attracted to him at all.

Keith also doesn’t seem attracted to her in the slightest. They’re very similar, and they get along, but they don’t go out of their way to talk to each other or be around each other, and when they do it’s kinda neutral and chill. They fight together really well, and they obviously care about each other, but they don’t seem like they see each other as much more than that.

I think part of the reason they get along with each other so well is because they’re both half galra trying to figure out their place in the universe. They both distrust others, they’re very similar personality wise, and just overall seem like they’re both trying their best to find community and belonging.

This isn’t because I ship Klance either, I just don’t really see any chemistry between the two of them.

I think my most correct Voltron Legendary Defenders character take is that Keith has BPD and I can and will back it up.

His entire backstory is about repeated abandonment. His mom leaving, his dad dying, Shiro disappearing, he has a history of people leaving him. Fears of abandonment are a huge thing with BPD

Any time someone mentions wanting to leave, such as when Pidge planned to leave to go find her brother, he gets upset to a degree that nobody else does. He latches on to the people he cares about and when they want to leave he snaps. Abandonment, real or perceived, causes his emotions to overtake him.

He also has a lot of self destructive tendencies. MULTIPLE times he planned to sacrifice his life for the team. Sure it was "for the greater good", but it doesn't change the fact that he's willing to end his own life at moments notice. He also seems to just simply not care for his own well-being. He'll pick a fight, he wont give up when he's already beaten.

He's left the team multiple times. He seems to think his value doesn't matter, and it wouldn't matter if he left because I think in his head he believes they don't care about him.

In summary: A character who struggles managing his own emotions, with a history of abandonment issues and self destructive tendencies? Thats BPD babeyyy
