Main Duo of My Miraculous Ladybug AU
Just for fun, I’m making a Miraculous Ladybug fan continuity with all OCs (save the Kwamis) called Miraculous Champions.
Before I get into the characters, I want to note something: I changed the timers on the Miraculouses to energy meters. I’m mentioning this now because the duo both have multiple powers, and I don’t want people to be confused as to how that works.
If on the off chance this looks familiar, it’s because I also posted it on Reddit (although I’ve made some changes, because of course I realized a few issues AFTER I posted it).
Harmony Pierce/Lady Beetle
Harmony is an African American teenager who wields the Ladybug Miraculous. She is a clever, genre-savvy girl who loves cheerleading, but is trying to find out who she is outside of the “popular cheerleader” archetype. The Pierce family recently moved to Leavittsburg (the fictional American city where Miraculous Champions takes place), and Harmony has only recently begun attending Rowan Charter School.
The Order of Guardians originally intended to give the Ladybug Miraculous to Verity Madison, but because Verity and Harmony had similar bags, Harmony got the Miraculous instead. This is very much a good thing because Verity is the Chloé/Lila of this AU… which doesn’t say anything good about the Order’s ability to judge people’s character. (They aren’t really painted in the best light in this AU.)
As a civilian, Harmony has bright brown eyes and long black hair tied into twin braids. Her default outfit is a black tank top, a pink short jacket, black jean shorts, and white and pink sneakers with black socks.
As Lady Beetle, her hairstyle changes to two braided loops on the sides of her head, resembling the wings of a ladybug in flight. Her costume consists of a black skirted leotard with a golden belt and neckline, a red short jacket with black spots, red tights with black spots, red and black gloves with gold cuffs, black boots with red laces and gold buckles, and a gold-outlined mask that’s red on the top and black on the bottom. Her yo-yo rests on her belt when not in use.
This costume is meant to reflect both Harmony's love of cheerleading and her close connection with her older stepsister, pop-rock star Susanna "Sookie" Stevens. (Sookie is basically Socqueline Wang mixed with Jagged Stone.)
Lady Beetle’s powers are slightly different from canon Ladybug’s. Instead of creating random fortuitous objects, she can create whatever object she desires, so long as it already exists and she can visualize it in her head. Bigger objects require more energy (which makes the “evil Ladybug summons a giant sword for her Lucky Charm” running gag, which I am keeping, even funnier).
She still has the Miraculous Cure power, but the Ladybug isn’t the only Miraculous with that power: at minimum, the Turtle and Rabbit (which still has time powers, even if it has been severely nerfed) can also use the Miraculous Cure. This is because I decoupled the Butterfly Miraculous from the Akumas, which are now solely made from dark magic. In other words, there can be multiple Akuma-creators active at one time.
Additionally, Lady Beetle can do some neat things with her yo-yo, which are all inspired by concept art from the show: her Bugshield sprouts ladybug wings made of pink energy, which then spin to form a shield; she can create her Bugsaber or Bugstaff using the same pink energy; and later on, she figures out how to use the power of Bugbomb, which makes the yo-yo explode!
Jace Lewis/Cheshire
Jace is a British-American teenager who wields the Black Cat Miraculous. He is a longtime resident of Leavittsburg and a student of Rowan Charter School. He’s kind, quiet, and helps a lot of people and groups at school with behind-the-scenes stuff, but struggles to ask for help himself or voice his own opinions. (However, his desire to free the Kwamis from the magical restrictions placed on them by the Order is a major impetus for his character development.)
He gets the Black Cat Miraculous after he and his mom Amelia find it in an antique chest that Amelia bought at a flea market. (Yes, this means Amelia knows her son is Cheshire, as does Jace's father Corwin.)
As a civilian, Jace has messy medium brown hair and green eyes with square-framed glasses. His default outfit is a white shirt with horizontal gray stripes, a black and cyan hoodie, jeans, black and white sneakers with white socks, and a brown newsboy cap.
As Cheshire, his hair is pulled back into a small ponytail, and his eyes become cat-like eyes with slit pupils (just like Chat Noir). His costume consists of a white dress shirt with neon green tie, dark gray vest, long black coat with green lining, dark gray pants, black shoes with green paw designs on the soles, a black mask with green pointed tips, and a black top hat with a green ribbon and cat ears. He keeps his staff in a pocket on the inside of his coat when he’s not using it.
This costume reflects Jace’s love for the archetype of the “gentleman thief,” who take what they want while remaining polite and mannered.
While Cheshire still has the power of Cataclysm, he’s also the one who De-Evilizes Akumas, not Lady Beetle. However, like with the Miraculous Cure, he’s not the only one with this power: the Pig and Ox, at minimum, also have the power of De-Evilization.
He also has two new powers inspired by concept art for the show: Black Hole and Black Storm. Black Hole creates holes in solid, nonliving objects, but the tougher the substance and the bigger the hole, the more energy the power uses. Black Storm is unlocked later and is basically a hadouken.
Any questions about these characters or this continuity are welcome! After all, I've either considered it (so I have an answer) or I haven't considered it (so the question helps me)!
"Fuck canon" has its virtues as an interpretive stance, but you've gotta know what the canon is before you can fuck it.
This isn't a "you have to learn the rules before you can break them" thing. It's a "making yourself out to be some kind of edgy rebel while unwittingly replicating all the flaws of the very thing you claim to be rebelling against makes you look like a dumbass" thing.
Not to undermine your point in any way whatsoever (I agree on all fronts) but isn’t the latter just the square to the former’s rectangle?
"So does it count if" let's stop right there. All systems of classification are fake. We made them up. They are not capable of being correct or incorrect; they are only useful or not useful. The question you should be asking is not "does A technically fit into category B?", but rather, "does it have utility to draw our lines such that A fits into category B?"
It counts if it pisses you off specifically.
That's actually a lot better than most of the taxonomic quibbling on this site. Like, at least "does it piss this one specific guy off?" is a coherent metric of utility!
Science-Fantasy Worldbuilding Update
So, for those of you who give a crap about my axionic elements concept (basically an entire second periodic table), by the power of my ADHD that concept has evolved into a true fantasy world called Telluria.
The resident magic system, thaumaturgy, works thanks to subatomic particles called thaums, which are similar to electrons but have an iffy relationship with the laws of physics. Using thaumic currents, one can invoke the physics-defying properties of thaums.
Different substances have different "feels" when manipulating them using thaumaturgy, leading to different thaumaturgical fields. For example, geomancy mostly revolves around thaumaturgical manipulation of silicon, while hydromancy is manipulation of water.
Electromancy is a highly advanced and heavily-regulated form of thaumaturgy, because electricity is dangerous and hard to control.
There's also the fact that stellarium, carbon's axionic equivalent (which is too thaumically conductive to support life, but can form compounds with carbon to allow for thaumaturgy), tends to crystallize when given a strong enough thaumic current. This is formally known as thaumic crystallization, but is commonly known as starbuncles.
Thanks to keratin being a thaumic insulator, most starbuncles only form on the skin and can be removed with iron-based creams (because ferromagnetism disrupts thaumic currents). However, in certain circumstances, they can form on the inside of one's body, requiring surgery to remove.
Because of the way thaumic currents hitch a ride on the body's nervous system, improper electromancy has a very high chance of causing internal starbuncles. OUCH.
Registered electromancers use special outfits to protect themselves, including helmets to protect their eyes and ears from the light and sound of their thaumaturgy. Additionally, modern electromancy involves the use of UV lasers to ionize the air and direct electricity. (This is based on a real-life weapon called an electrolaser. Look it up!)
So, yeah, that's what I've been up to. Questions are welcome.
Too bad the prophet Cassandra never met Odysseus
They say if she made a prophecy Nobody would believe her
I’ve gotta say, that is exactly the kind of stupid thing that probably would circumvent a curse.
Cassandra: YOU ARE ALL GOING TO REGRET THIS SO MUCH YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW.
Odysseus: Regret it why?
Cassandra: You won’t believe me if I tell you. If I prophecy, nobody believes me. That is my curse.
Odysseus: … I’m Nobody. Fill me in.
*A couple of months later*
Odysseus: HELLO PENELOPE, I AM HERE PRECISELY ON TIME AND NOT YEARS LATE incidentally I rescued and adopted a Trojan seer while I was away, she’s great, got me home really fast, Cassandra this is your new mother who’s not going to treat you like shit.
Penelope: … I’m going to need more details, but okay, sure.
Cassandra: *in tears* I love you, new family.
Cassandra: Penelope, I’ve had another vision.
Penelope, sighs: Go tell your father.
the original? on my dash?
Someone make an Epic The Musical AU involving this premise.

Me:
Finally.
As a writer: been there, done that, bought the t-shirt.
A few people were interested in my science fantasy axionic elements system, so here are the four axionic elements I've come up with so far, in order of atomic number.
Kurmizium
With an atomic number of 26, kurmizium is the axionic equivalent of iron. It has the chemical symbol Km, which I realize would be easily mixed up with kilometers in-universe, but that's a Plot Opportunity.
The name comes from Arabic “qurmizi” meaning “crimson,” in reference to its crimson red coloration.
Like iron, kurmizium distributes heat evenly. However, kurmizium is a much better conductor of heat than its neutronic cousin.
Out-of-universe, I made kurmizium with the intent of it being a component of scarlet steel, which is based on the legendary Japanese metal hihi’irokane.
Sidhium
With an atomic number of 27, sidhium is the axionic equivalent of cobalt. It has the chemical symbol Sd.
The name comes from “sidhe,” the fair folk of Irish folklore, similar to how “cobalt” comes from German “kobold.”
Sidhium has a beautiful turquoise color in contrast to cobalt's signature blue. I still need to come up with other properties for it, admittedly.
Sidhium is the only axionic element I have so far that's a component in a compound, not just an alloy. This compound is a fictional variety of garnet with a deep blue color, known as thalassian garnet. The chemical formula is Sd3Ti2(SiO4)3. (Apparently Tumblr doesn't allow for subscript, but I hope making the numbers smaller will do the trick.)
As thalassian garnet is a compound of both axionic elements (sidhium) and neutronic elements (titanium, silicon, and oxygen), it is considered a bitronic compound. Yes, axionic and neutronic elements can form chemical bonds with each other, because that's based on electrons, which they both have.
Thalassian garnet has no special properties yet, I just wanted a true blue garnet.
Akrium
With an atomic number of 30, akrium is the axionic equivalent of zinc. It has the chemical symbol Ak.
The name comes from a Greek word for “point” or “edge,” as zinc’s etymological origin is a German word for “pointed” or “pronged.”
Akrium trades zinc's malleability in favor of better electrical conduction, making it a component of the highly conductive alloy orichalcum, along with copper. (Many historians believe that "orichalcum" in Ancient Greek writings, including Plato's writings on Atlantis, were referring to brass, which is an alloy of copper and zinc.)
Vesperum
With an atomic number of 79, vesperum is the axionic equivalent of gold. It has the chemical symbol Ve.
It is named after the Roman name for the evening star, as its orange-pink color calls to mind a sunset.
Compared to its neutronic counterpart, vesperum is less resistant to corrosion in exchange for being more reactive with other elements. I haven't actually come up with any compounds it is a part of, yet, as I started this project yesterday.
Anyway, even with this very small selection of axionic elements, alloys, and compounds, I'm very happy with how this project is going.
I don't even consider "it's gay" to necessarily be a selling point in games, but I've played enough zero-budget indie walking sims where what initially appears to be wonderfully imaginative meta bullshit is eventually revealed to be a strained allegory for the straight male developer being sad about breaking up with his girlfriend that at this point I get red flag vibes from the faintest whiff of heterosexuality.
(Like, I'm not even exaggerating for effect here. "Fun mechanics, fantastic art direction, disconcertingly heterosexual third-act reveal" is genuinely a discernible category on my "do not recommend" list.)
That’s… oddly specific, and yet I understand perfectly.
category of blorbo called "technically i like them but fanons obsession with them to the exclusion of other characters pavloved me into having a negative reaction whenever i see them"

@hellsite-hall-of-fame
I was just throwing worldbuilding ideas at the wall and seeing what sticks, and now I'm brainstorming a whole periodic table of science-fantasy elements and associated compounds, based on the general idea of "What if axions (a hypothetical neutrally-charged subatomic particle that's too weak to interact with other particles) had enough strong interaction to substitute for neutrons in atomic nuclei?" (It's still science fantasy, though, so the scientific realism only goes so far.)
So, uh, if anyone gives a flying frickamajig, I am more than happy to infodump on what I have so far.

It’s crazy how homophobes/transphobes are always like “I don’t think gay and trans people should exist in public. How do I explain them to my child?” and gay and trans people are like “Oh okay, I can do it for you. Sometimes boys like other boys and girls like other girls. Sometimes people are told they’re a girl as a child but realize they’re actually a boy or something in between a boy and a girl or no gender at all and vise versa.” and then they ban the books explaining these extremely simple concepts in child friendly terms.
