Finally. Zim has finally been given a worthwhile mission to prove himself to the others. To show heās fully on their side. Zim is finally worthy. Yet Dib would not look at him. Since they left the bridge where they were briefed for the next mission Dib had grown quiet and cold.
His black coat fluttered innocently around his long legs as he stormed ahead of Zim. His hands clenched into fists at his side, the dark blue leather tight over his knuckles. He had the lock code for their sleeping quarters punched in before Zim even caught up to him.
āWhat has gotten into you?ā Zim spat the second the door to their quarters slid shut. Dib let out a low growl as he ran one hand through his hair, the other presumably pressed against his eyes. Zim couldnāt see it where Dib was turned away from him but the stiff line of his shoulders said more than anything.
Dropping his hands, his goggles fell to the dresser.
Dib stripped his utility watch and gloves off next. They fell to the wooden top with a small thud. He picked up his glasses, before unceremoniously shoving them over his nose. The tense silence stretched between them.
Zim hated it. Hated how it made his spooch clench and his antenna flatten. How it made his skin feel too tight. His old Invader uniform was suffocating, clinging in ways his new one didnāt. He couldnāt breathe. āDiāā
āYou canāt go, Zim.ā Dib cut in as he leaned heavily against the dresser. His shoulders were trembling. āTheyāre insane.ā He spat, and Zim could hear the panic rising in the back of his human's throat. āTo send a defected Irken? Into the heart of the Armada? Anyone else. They could send literally anyone else but you.ā
Zim let his claws unclench and his own tense shoulders fall. He took a breath. āThey canāt and you know it. Zim is honored to serve the Resisty.ā Dib jerked his head roughly to the side as Zim spoke. As if shaking off an annoying insect. āIt is an hoāā
Dib spun around, eyes wild behind the round frames of his glasses. āItās suicide!ā He wailed, āWhen thāif they catch you theyāll destroy you. No hesitation!ā The panic was growing as his voice rose. āSend someone else!ā
The realization hit him with the force of the whole army. He was across the room in a matter of seconds, his smaller body immediately pressed along Dibās back. His human shuddered as the sobs finally broke free. āI canāt lose anyone else.ā He choked out.
āZim will be fine.ā Zim muttered, pulling on Dibās coat just enough to make him face him. Watery gold eyes stared back. Zim was drowning.
āI canāt lose you, Zim.ā Dibās hand came up to gently cup his jaw. āPromise me youāll stay safe.ā He pressed their foreheads together.
Zim let himself be pulled forward into Dibās space. Breathing in his warm breath. Dibās kisses always felt like he was watching a supernova. āI will do everything in my power to come back to you, Dib-mate.ā
This was supposed to be for @alt-zadr-b1tch3z Zadr week 2024ā but life decided it had other plans and I didnāt have time. But itās done now! I wanna do more with this AU nglā probably will eventually

There was a tightness in his chest when their lips met. An ache so deep and bitter he wasnāt so sure Shane couldnāt taste it on his tongue. Then again how could he taste the bitterness when salt was coating his tastebuds? Maybe they should talk. Maybe he could explain the hurt away and they could be good again. They could be them again.
āRyāā
But they both knew this wasnāt forever. This couldnāt last forever. They burned too hot. Too bright. They were irrecoverably shaped and changed. It was Icarus flying to close to the sun. They smoldered and melted in secret.
The pleasure and the pain. Wound together so tightly in their hearts it was no wonder it had to die. Because they knew. From the very start they knew. And try as he might, tangling his fingers in Shaneās hair. Tasting the coffee and the regret in his mouth. Ryan couldnāt forget it.
This was too much. Too much, too good.

I just-- I fuckin love the idea of Demon!Shane. Give me more Demon!Shane. Also that song is a banger please listen to it... and I'm still not happy with his face but you know what he's hard to draw, and I think it's the early Unsolved hair style that's throwing me off but I love it too much to change it.
