No, you see, I wish to be an author. Not in marketing. Or an influencer. I wish to tell my stories, be told I did a fantastic job, and then go back to my hovel to scribble some more. I am delicate of constitution and awkward in crowds.

There is very little intrinsic institutional power in queenship. The power a consort, dowager, or queen mother has depends mostly on how much the reigning sovereign (usually a man) is willing to grant her. Needing a queen to serve as regent is exceptionally rare, and the regent is more often a male relative.

I know this is a bit of a bummer. I'm sorry.

For clarity:

Queen regnant: woman who rules in her own right, not on behalf of someone else.

Regent: Someone who temporarily assumes the powers of the monarch on account of the monarch being too young or too incapacitated to govern.

Queen consort: Woman who is married to the monarch.

Dowager queen: Woman who was married to the monarch. The monarch is dead, and she is owed support as his widow.

Queen mother: Woman who is the mother of the monarch. Usually the dowager queen, though there are exceptions if there isn't a straight line of succession.

Sometimes you just need to restart whatever you're writing.

You can’t force a square peg into a round hole, so if something really isn’t working, it’s totally okay to start again with a new outlook. Sometimes an idea just needs a subtle change to come together, but you’ll never know if you don't try it out.

It's a hard lesson to learn, but a good habit to build.

Once again recommending that writers, especially newer writers, start ‘rubber ducking’

When you’re stumped and you don’t know what’s not working for your writing, or you don’t know where to go next, take out a rubber duck (or any equivalent friend/inanimate object, I like to use my dogs) and start explaining every single detail as if the rubber duck knows nothing about writing or about your story. Explain out loud what’s going on, what part you’re up to, why you’re stumped, and what you know you need to get to when you figure out how to get there

Somewhere along the line of putting it into words and externalising the thought process, it’s likely something will slot into place

they're saying spending 2 hours in the word doc changing words slightly to be more specific and evocative and moving endless commas around is one of the most noble and respected things that you can do

Okay! For those who were wondering about alternatives to Google Docs, I think I found pretty much the perfect option: Ellipsus

Besides being online and collaborative like GDocs, a few things I've liked about it so far:

It has a drafts feature, which you can use to track and merge revisions to your doc OR you can use them as sub-documents to store things like your bible--character info, notes, scenes, whatever OR you can break down your story into chapters

Strictly anti-AI, and wanting you to own your writing 100%

Has a built in writing timer, and a focus mode (Strips away the UI)

Their plans are to keep this version of the product free, and then create higher end paid versions with more features to maintain a sustainable model that'll keep the product viable. They seem really cool so far. Highly recommend checking them out, if you're in any way interested in degoogling.

Monster's Who Wear Human Skin

• Prompt # 1215

As the woman hollowed out another corpse, she wiped the sweat from her brow. Orders like this always piled up around Halloween time. Monsters were so determined to blend in with humans that they resulted in wearing them as costumes. Of course, she would never give up their true identities. The pay was well, and she really wasn't getting much business nowadays as it was. So what harm would it do to help a fellow monster out?

how many ways can I outline this scene happening and not actually Write the damn thing.

It's basically already written! I just need to add the dialogue & make it less ramble-notes like!

Maybe I should just. skip ahead to the next chapter and work on rewriting the scene Later.
