It's my 15 year anniversary on Tumblr 🥳
Well it was last month.
Wow. Time moves too fast.
Having someone match your wit or your weirdness without hesitation is actually so fucking comforting and fun.
i want to be a sweet and friendly girl but there’s all this anxiety. and the horrors
and rage
yeah and also the rage
people don't talk enough about the trauma callouts can cause and the fact people can and will use them maliciously to destroy the social life and often livelihood of people they just don't like (often out of bigotry too!) since that would require applying critical thinking to what you read and understanding that you can't just go "oh shit this person is being called out they must be Bad"
if you've been maliciously called out i love you. if you have trauma from being called out i love you
wanted these tags on my blog
One thing I miss about Twitter is-
bahaha I couldn’t complete that with a straight face.
no MCU moment could ever hold a candle to the scene in the incredibles where Bob is at the computer terminal and in the background music the horn section is putting their entire pussy into it as he finds out with dawning horror how many of his old friends Syndrome killed
I agree but did you have to say it like that
yes
I think what's fascinating about this whole Unity debacle is how clear it makes something.
The entire C-suite of every company on earth are idiots.
That's not hyperbole, they are people serially uninterested in becoming informed and constitutionally incapable of hearing they're wrong about something. They build a thick shell of unreality and assure themselves they can direct any human venture even if they know nothing of how the enterprise in question works or how its' customers interact with it.
They had it. They were THE tool for learning to build games and even worked for larger projects. Producers and consumers alike knew Unity as a trusted albeit occasionally teased household name.
And they fucked their institutional trust like a university of Florida fraternity pledge strung out on something called "gator blood" fucks a supermarket turkey.
And it isn't even just Unity - look at Twitter, the smoking ruin of something once synonymous with the digital commons. It isn't just Twitter - look at grocery prices.
Our "business leaders", our "movers and shakers" don't know what they're doing. An MBA is taken as a stand-in for competence and knowledge. Because the neo-feudal overlords can never hear no.
The enshittification continues.
I forget the exact details or which study it was, but iirc there was a study that found that, between businesses run by people with MBAs and people without them, the former were pretty universally worse places to work (lower wages, worse conditions, etc) - without any corresponding increase in profit. So there's no actual benefit to having people with MBAs in charge, only downsides.
These CEOs are fundamentally disconnected from reality in amazingly terrible ways. They "solve" problems within a bubble that only looks at the desired end result and doesn't consider ANYTHING outside of that. They ignore anyone trying to tell them something is a bad idea. Other people aren't really people to them, just vague things.
It's exhausting. These people don't deserve the money they were born with and they sure as hell don't deserve the paychecks they write for themselves at the expense of everyone and everything around them. Even if they succeed at destroying their own company, they don't care: it wasn't their fault and they're still going to walk away with a massive payout. That's all that matters to them.
Reminds me of when I was working for a certain MMO company and they brought in a guy from another big company that starts with Nin- and ends with -endo to oversee the rollout of the cash shop. As staff, we got a week-advance sneak peek and things were priced SO HIGH that I told the dude, "Some of these things cost more than the jeans I'm wearing". And he was like, "Nah, we're burying the price under three layers of exchange, the players won't notice". I said, "Oh yes they will. Have you MET anyone who plays this game?" "Nah, they're not gonna notice." Total fucking confidence like he could will an alternative reality into existence.
But happy thoughts and attempted misdirection pixie dust do not, in fact, change reality. People noticed within minutes of launch, and it nearly tanked the company. 20% of us lost our jobs. But not the asshole whose bright idea it was, nor the execs he'd managed to convince. They never suffer the consequences of their actions. Bet we'll be seeing Unity dev layoffs soon.
afshahgsgsj I went looking for what the "Unity debacle" was and apparently they are creating a new pricing tier for small devs that were originally on the free tier?? and since it's an installation fee, a lot of devs will just not choose to pay it (because they are small time devs! they have no money)
I can't believe literally yesterday I wrote in a post about how ANY privately-owned internet technology was unreliable and how Flash died because it was privately-owned and I was like "huh should I include a line about how Unity basically replaced Flash as the ubiquitous internet game platform nowadays and it's actually vulnerable in the exact same way?" but then I didn't and now I have regrets because this is exactly the kind of move that might ruin unity as an accessible web game platform
What is your Hogwarts house?
Actually I've already processed all five stages of grief in regards to a beloved author from my childhood very publicly making the jump from "milquetoast liberal with unexamined biases" to "actively dangerous bigot who will double down into perpetuity" and will no longer be basing any part of my identity on her intellectual property! Thanks for asking!
If safety in your ideal society is entirely based on care by networks of affinity, and does not provide care for people who are not liked by anybody, then your society is actually even worse than the situation we are in now.
Pissing off people close to you or over-exhausting your social network or isolating yourself is often an inherent part of many mental health problems, addictions, etc. By the time people need care the most, they have often lost all their networks of affinity, and with some bad luck, any of us could find ourselves in that situation.
There has to be unconditional care available for the more unlikable of us, or there isn't really a safety net for any of us.
Hi folks.
I’m back. Gonna write blog posts here and stuff!
Definitely feel like deleting Twitter helped relieve a lot of my stress.
I’m gonna get a lot of personal writing done here. Poetry, stories, and random thoughts.
Also, we’re gonna set up more system accounts for the other alters.
Stay tuned!

Solidarity Summer is well and truly ramping up. AS IT FUCKING SHOULD.

Barnes and Noble booksellers are working on forming a union as well!
https://www.reddit.com/r/union/comments/rwczci/barnes_noble_workers_want_union/
Their flagship store and New York has unionized along with 3-4 other stores! This is happening! People are tired of being seen as dollar signs and being made to work just to get to work more, to survive instead of thrive. Keep it UP.
Girl underwear is supposed to match? Remind me never to trans my gender it's hard enough finding 2 socks the same.
It's not that it's supposed to match it's more like 90% of the time no one matches their bra and underwear so when you actually do it you feel extremely powerful it's like when you equip every piece from a set of armor in an MMO and it gives your character a stat bonus
Clicked on an article from the anthropology subreddit about loneliness and was immediately blasted into oblivion by this opening paragraph
i love responding to everyone with ‘waugh’ or ‘hough’ theyre such versatile words. they can mean anything. i love to say ‘hrng’
The ban allegedly affected LGBTQ users disproportionately.
Gee, Tumblr would probably really hate it if you shared and spread this damning article … To the surprise of absolutely none of Tumblr’s LGBTQ users, it turns out the independent NYC human rights agency Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) found that Tumblr’s ham-fisted adult content ban in December 2018 disproportionately targeted LGBTQ users. The CCHR’s investigation revealed Tumbler’s moderation algorithms is demonstrably biased against queer content. As part of the settlement, Tumblr was obligated to review their prejudicial anti-gay moderation policies. Even more mortifyingly, they’ve also had to hire an expert on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) issues and provide unconscious bias training to their moderators. I frankly doubt Tumblr has learned a thing from this humbling experience. Just recently the Tumblr algorithm flagged three ancient posts of mine as violating their terms. All three “offenders” were vintage homoerotic beefcake images (softcore by modern standards) roughly 50 – 65-years-old by Bruce of Los Angeles, Bob Mizer and Tom of Finland. (These are of course pioneering queer artists who routinely faced censorship and imprisonment in the fifties and sixties. Plus ca change!). They've been visible on my page - corrupting viewers - for years at this point. I appealed all three immediately. Only the Tom of Finland one was approved. The other two are now hidden. So, they haven't learned much. Apparently, Tumblr – who loves to declare how hip, youthful, inclusive and progressive their values are - wants to restore trust with their queer users. I’d recommend we remember their hypocrisy when Pride rolls around and Tumblr splashes rainbow flags everywhere and attempts to pink wash their image.
In honour of Pride Month, this is worth a reblog! Don’t buy into Tumblr’s hypocritical “pink washing.”
