Disclaimer: I am not transID for fun, I have genuinely crippling dysphoria due to my biid. I am also physically disabled and transgender. This is not a fun label to collect for me. This is real dysphoria that genuinely makes me distressed and even suicidal.

i really really hate when people try to bar free to use resources made publicly available behind a dni. particularly aac symbols. 1. that's not stopping anyone. yeah sure i have filters to block tags and shit but if i'm looking for aac symbols i'm just gonna look anyway. its for My Personal Aac device . literally . who gives a shit. 2. why would you even try to bar something meant for accessibility from people? i seriously don't care who uses my aac symbols, i don't care if they would be happy if i died, i don't care about whether or not our values align. i think anyone and everyone deserves to communicate and if my symbols are an aid to that then they deserve to be able to use them. seriously so peculiar. idk just a random thought
What kinds of AAC devices exist? What even can be considered AAC? Is AAC only for disabled/neurodivergent people?
Im neurotypical (and not disabled), but I just can't speak because of the language barrier, it's just too much stress for me even if I understand everything and know what to say (I only have troubles when I have to speak german, I struggle with this for the last 9 years of my life, but 0% issues when I speak russian or even english). Some people told me that I can try using cards with words on them to communicate, but I heard that cards are considered a form of AAC(?) and now I feel that it would be kinda rude for me to use something like this when I don't actually need it...
(Sorry if I sound stupid, I don't know anything about AAC)
You donβt sound stupid at all! This is a very good question!
Firstly, AAC is for everyone. Absolutely everyone. As a disabled person who uses AAC regularly, I would love to see cards and other forms of alternative communication be more normalized. It would not be rude at all to use communication cards. Many things that were originally invented for disabled people can be quite handy and useful to abled people as well!
As for what is considered AAC, pretty much every form of communication that doesnβt involve talking.* This does include communication cards, but again, AAC is for everyone! If you think cards would be helpful, I highly suggest trying them out! I find my cards an excellent way to communicate on the go!
*this excludes sign language, I have been informed by native Deaf signers that many of them do not consider sign a form of AAC, rather just another language.
Iβm a part time AAC user due to verbal shutdowns. I use a high tech AAC device, text to speech apps, communication cards and a DIY letter board.
A lot of people like me, who experience verbal shutdowns incorrectly label themselves as βnonverbalβ. This misuse of language actually harms the nonspeaking community, and speaks over their lived experience. Nonverbal and nonspeaking describe a full time, long term state of being unable to speak much or at all.
This is not the same as sometimes being usually able to speak, but experiencing verbal loss.
Now donβt get me wrong, if youβve been using nonverbal to describe yourself for a long time, only to realize that word wasnβt for you, it can be a big change. Even I was quite resistant at first to change my use of language.
But this is important. Nonspeaking people are so often left out of conversations, and so rarely given chances to share their opinions. But the majority of the nonspeaking community has made it clear that this is not a word for people like me, and itβs important to listen to them.
If youβre struggling to find a correct term for temporary loss of speech, here are some alternatives β¬οΈβ¬οΈβ¬οΈ
And some people who are paralyzed can actually experience some movement in their affected limb(s)! Just because a paralyzed person moves a little bit, it doesn't mean they're faking! Some people may also experience episodes of paralysis due to conditions like FND!
I know the conversation on here about AAC is dominated by high tech users. I want you to know that yβall are just as valid as high tech users, and your voices deserve to be heard just as much as everyone elseβs.

Daily reminder that when antis say "oh your TransMinority? I hope you get hate crimed in XYZ way"
They are telling you that they think minorities DESERVE that
Even that person doesn't PUBLICLY think minorities deserve it, when they say they hope YOU get it, it means they still want that system of oppression and murder to exist to make YOU get hurt
Even if it kills the people they yap about protecting
Okay. I genuinely want a respectful TransID person to reblog this or send me an ask (preferably off anon so we could hold a conversation using reblogs)
I'm very interested in knowing why you see TransIDs as not harmful and your opinions on them.
This is coming from a person who has been in several uncomfortable interactions with transnazis, transharmful, and several other transIDs.
I genuinely want to understand, and I'm posting this with an open mind, because I do want to try and understand your perspective here, too.
I've seen a LOT of anti TransID stances and explanations and such, but I think it's unfair to take a stance when I have no idea what the other side is saying. I learned that with the plural community in the context of endogenic systems.
So please, any TransID person that's willing to be respectful and calm for the entire conversation and willing to help me understand your side too, my ask box and the reblogs of this post are open, please tell me!
Hi!! Transabled and transbody individual here who makes and uses subliminals :)
We have biid, which stands for body integrity identity disorder. It's a mental health (or potentially neurological) condition that causes dysphoria from not having a specific physical or sensory disability. I'm also neurodivergent + physically disabled with a spinal deformity, among other things.
For me, not having this specific condition feels like having a blank space in my identity. If there was a way to lay out all of the core pieces of my identity so people could see it, there would be things missing in the disability and appearance departments. In my mind, I know I should be these things. I'm so certain that I do have these conditions, but it isn't reflected in my physical form at the moment.
For us, we are very spiritual and use subliminals, among other things, to transition. We have gotten results from subliminals before and don't really feel the need to argue about whether they work or not. Arguing about spiritual beliefs is pretty much pointless since the only evidence you can go off of is anecdotal for the most part. (Although I think @germanpony did have evidence of an eye colour sub working. Correct me if that wasn't you, though. Our memory is terrible, lol.)
Lmk if u have more questions! I'm happy to answer (just very slow with responses).
I wanted to make a quick post to shout out an individual I haven't seen talked about yet in the wider transID community. This link will take you to the published book by one Dr. Ronnie Gladden (they/them).
A professor and speaker, Dr. Ronnie was assigned a black male at birth. Their book White Girl Within: Letters of Self-Discovery Between a Transgender and Transracial Black Man and his Inner Female details their journey to process their identity and grappling with their inner sense of being a white woman.
In their blog (link), there are discussions of the intersection of being transgender and transracial - "trangracial". A lot of their written works and speaking presentations are centered towards young individuals who are currently also grappling with similar struggles with their identity, so if that sounds like you this is definitely someone to look into.
Hey, this may seem random, but thank you so much for making the post that would introduce Dr. Gladden and their book to me! It got me talking, and then my mom bought me a copy as a complete surprise.
I've never been good with books, but I'll try to read this one all the way through.
AAAAHHHH I love everything about this! You're the second person I've seen get it because of this post! And your mom getting it for you is so great!! I don't currently have the money to get it myself so pleeeeease tell me what you think about it when you've finished! :3
