Anyone who says X cant be this skin color doesn’t understand how skin color even works. People are not black because they’re “African”. They’re black because their ancestors lived in a equatorial, arid region for ten thousand years and their bodies darkened to protect their cellular structure from solar radiation.
People are tan because their ancestors either A) lived closer to the poles but still close enough to the equator to need darker skin tones or B) they lived on a coastline and fish was a huge part of their diet.
People are light because their ancestors lived very close to the poles and did not have a large seafood diet and needed lighter skin to absorb more sunlight so they can produce the essential Vitamin D.
That’s right. Your skin tone is because of an essential need for Vitamin D. The more sunlight you get, the darker your skin gets. The less, the lighter.
So an elf can be darker skinned because every world has a fucking sun and elves need Vitamin D too.
Unless you’re a drow and then you’re just a fucked up elf.
So these are from a couple years ago, and from a period where I had just started realizing how ridiculously white/european all the characters I’d drawn were. (So forgive the part where they still have pretty strong european features... habits were hard to break and these were just my starting points) But the short version is that elves with central and east asian influences are GORGEOUS. If you can suspend your belief to include dragons and magical spells and huge pantheons of deities, then you shouldn’t have any problem including POC in your world.

Spent some time this evening on r/dnd getting some inspiration for NPCs to put in my homebrew world by trading ideas for sketches!
And now... back to some real work.
So my group for Storm King’s Thunder is nearing the climactic final battle, so I had to hurry to get our group’s portrait finished!
A note, to all those familiar with SKT - our DM has made the Big Bad a void dragon instead of the normal BBEG in the text. So that’s why there’s a void dragon behind us.
Pretty sure we’re going to TPK, but I don’t even care because I’m so hyped.

Alas, they are not magical boots. But she has the fly spell and as of a couple sessions ago, a ring of air elemental control that lets her featherfall at will.

A Kellid bard singing the stories of her people that have been handed down for generations. I tried to pull in some inspiration and references from Inuit culture because it’s a) super appropriate for a northern tribal society that lives in frigid areas and b) it’s GORGEOUS. <3

Two Questions (boost this please)
1: An artist somewhat recently did a big group cover-type art for DC’s New 52. I think that’s what it was. They are perhaps a first time artist for DC. Can anyone link me that art?
2. Any artists open to being commissioned to do a planeswalker pantheon for me? I’m looking for paint on canvas, probably portrait oriented and vaguely inspired by the picture mentioned above if I can find it. I’m looking for slightly more cute than serious, but not much.
I’d want a sketch first to approve and ask for adjustments before moving forward. In total I’m talking a group of 34 figures, those listed under the “playable” section here. I’m interested in sizes around 16x20, 18x24, 20x30, or 24x32. Please be prepared to quote for each and also recommend a size (like if 16x20 isn’t really enough space to get everyone in there or something like that). Shipping should be included in your quote and if you do framing I’d be interested in cost for that though I may not opt for it.
If you can do high res scans so I can have a superb quality digital copy that would be awesome too.
Pay is multiple hundreds of dollars. We’ll discuss. I would prefer to pay half of whatever we agree upon when I ok a final submitted sketch with any changes, then the second half when the piece is finished. If you have an Etsy I’d be cool with doing a custom job and paying through there, or via Paypal, or personal check or money order via snail mail.
Time frame I’d hope for is approving a final sketch within two or three weeks of us agreeing to project terms and a final painting within two months following, though this time frame is negotiable.
I also expect secrecy on your end–I want to be the first to share this with the world, and after I’ve done that you’d be free to include a pic of it in your portfolio or website.

So, to be realistic, by someone with real skill, this is a $1,000 piece, or more.
This would be an exceptionally expensive project for the comissioner and heavily time consuming for the artist, but I’ll get the word out if it means there’s a chance of this coming to fruition.
I'd probably want to see the initial inspiration mentioned in the new-52 part to make sure I can deliver on style and ask that bit otherwise I'd be interested! Shoot me a message if you're interested. :)
