the storms have been extremely stressful but do not fuck around in the flood water. first of all, it is a fantastic way to get an infection. horrible way to find out if you have any open wounds. breeding grounds for all sorts of parasites and bacteria. you ever hear about people who die messing around in dirty water or even on a water slide that was not sanitized properly? there you go. flood water is filled with human sewage and human sewage is filled with some pretty fucking horrifying disease. not to mention every chemical that was in the area can get in your eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and skin.
second, manhole/drain covers are missing. one wrong step near a drain without a cover, you will get sucked in. if above ground is flooded, you can bet underground is a fucking nightmare.
third, the debris in the water can also kill you. there are sharp objects everywhere. broken glass, car parts, signs, needles, anything. and you get pricked even a little in water that awful, get ready for an even more awful infection. but you can also very easily get slashed bad by something that is basically covered with poison. you know the whole deal about poison covered arrows in shows and shit? yeah. and fucking powerlines!
fourth, you know what else is in the water? extremely stressed displaced animals. and besides just attacking you, you might step in a squishy corpse.
do not care how fun or relaxing it sounds to play in the floods, cut that shit out. hospitals that were not destroyed are already overwhelmed with covid patients and now storm patients, and if your area was damaged severely, you may not be able to get medical care, and whatever medical care you get from hurting yourself will take much longer and be way worse.
