jury-rigged. even keel. by the board. three sheets to the wind. loose cannon. son of a gun. pipe down. taken aback.
Give me some leeway, hit the head, learning the ropes, the cat is out of the bag, get underway, the cut of your jib, true colors, hand over fist
under the weather, in the doldrums, long shot, toe the line, groggy, aloof, overhaul, mainstay, pooped, keel over, in the offing, give a wide berth, footloose, flying colors, press into service, shake a leg
Chock-a-block. Scuttlebutt. By and large. Above board. Slush fund. Batten down the hatches. Shot across the bow. At loggerheads. Squared away. Dead reckoning. Down in the doldrums. Touch and go. Fathom/plumb. Leading light. Overwhelm, overreach. Skyscraper (originally a sail at the very tip top of a mast!). The bitter end.
we’re all in the same boat
People often say to me: “You draw like some kind of inhuman machine. If I eat your brain, will I gain your power?” The answer is yes, but there is another way. The key to precise drawing is building up muscle memory so that your arm/hand/fingers do the things you want them to do when you want them to do them. Teaching yourself to draw a straight line or to make sweet curves is just a matter of practice and there are some exercises you can do to help improve. If you’re going to be doodling in class or during meetings anyway, why not put that time to good use?
This is so important to mention to all artists. The reason PRACTISE improves drawing ability over time is it increases the literal, technical movement in your hands and arms through /muscle memory/.
THIS IS VERY GOOD, to all the people that like my lines. I do similar but less constructed doodles like these in my sketchbook all the time, it basically just teaches your hand how to move
These are exercises you can find in drawabox! If you want to start learning fundamentals of drawing you can visit their website and discord.
It’s not easy. I’ve quit several times but I wanted to finish their lessons even if the last one I did was three or four years ago.
This is their website

Game studios learn to optimize your fucking games challenge.
Who the fuck do you think you are? You are a toy. A glorified slinky.
publisher executives will actually tell their studios to have an inflated install size because gamers will assume that Bigger Install Means Better And More Game.
I couldn't find any sources on this, it seems more likely that it's just because optimization costs more than it worth to AAA devs
source: i work in the game industry and coworkers who experience it firsthand have told me this. not to say that optimization costs isn't one factor but. this is certainly another

My housemate's cat came into my room while my dictation was on...
You know, if CEOs want me to really care about CEOs getting killed by guns, maybe we shouldn't have spent the last couple decades making the US so numb to absolutely horrifying gun violence. I have reached the point where I can not cry when another round of kids in school are murdered with guns. No wonder I can feel vaguely amused when a sleazy millionaire who built his career off denying human rights and dignity is being murdered.
That being said, I don't want to be in charge of ranking who is most worthy of life and making the call on choosing who lives and dies.
Hmmm....You know who does want to be in charge of that?

I can't stress enough how much I miss StumbleUpon
StumbleUpon once sent me to a supercut of Lion King, Lion King 1 1/2, and Lion King II, the main edit being that the scenes of Lion King and Lion King 1 1/2 were interspersed so that they happened in the order they actually happened.
stumbleupon not existing anymore can be directly traced to a dramatic decline in my mental health, I could do a thesis on it.
bestie stumbleupon very much still exists its just called cloudhiker now. i use it all the time.
mini compilation of suggestions from the replies:
The Bored Button - "Press the Bored Button and be bored no more."
The Useless Web
Cloudhiker - "Discover the most interesting, weird and awesome websites of the Internet" (not really a rebrand, it's a different person running it but they have the same intention in mind)
Astronaut.io - "These videos come from YouTube. They were uploaded in the last week and have titles like DSC 1234 and IMG 4321. They have almost zero previous views. They are unnamed, unedited, and unseen (by anyone but you)."
Marginalia - "This is an independent DIY search engine that focuses on non-commercial content, and attempts to show you sites you perhaps weren't aware of in favor of the sort of sites you probably already knew existed."
I think libraries are hindered in their ability to reach a wider audience by....themselves. Libraries' social media team can't sit you down and say, hey, look at me. We don't keep your data. You fill out an application and that information goes in our database and it's only ever accessed when you lose a book or something and we have to send you a notice. That information does not leave our database. There's no third parties or cookies or analytics. It's just your name and your contact info in the digital equivalent of a filing cabinet. Your data and your privacy is your own.
But I can. I can say that.
Also we don't keep records of who checked what out. Which most people are saddened by because they can't find that one book they checked out two years ago. But this also means cops can't access records of who checked out what items, and your academic interest in a subject has now put you on a watchlist. That doesn't happen at the library.
Obligatory your mileage may vary based on what systems your library uses. But as a general rule, information is highly protected.
In a day and age where everyone and their mother is keeping your information whether it is to sell you a specific lotion based off a throwaway comment you made to your friend, or if it is to track how much of an enemy to the government you might be because you are interested in things like civil rights, sexual and gender identity, etc - libraries are here to say, your information isn't ours to keep. And I think that should be shouted from every fucking mountain top (coming from a person who sits in various vendor meetings, asking a. How is the information encrypted, and b. We don't keep that info so much that everyone can predict what I'm gonna say before I say it).

More paintings done with my new impressionist brushes! This one is a scene from my work in progress novel about a traveling artist and his apprentice. In the novel the little girl said the stars look like a thousand spying eyes so there are some creepy eyes hidden in the sky 😂
There is also a town in the distance with white steam and black smoke from burning coal.
Time lapse! The full hours long video recording, HD images and PSD files will be DMed on Patreon.

Everyone's thinking "witch" but the owl was actually going as a cowboy.
Iirc the original images are from years ago, and everyone was worried that the owl was actually stuck to the toy - but apparently the townspeople had seen him put it down to hunt and such, and then go back to pick it up again. Which straight up triples my enjoyment of this story.
Me, having tired most of the time disease: :)
Me, when I'm tired most of the time:
My theory of adhd management is that in order to focus there are 4 things that need to be sufficiently occupied:
Eyes
Ears
Hands (or body)
Brain
And if you aren’t occupying them enough or there’s too many things demanding the use of one, it’ll start to wreck havoc on your ability to do things.
So for example, listening to a podcast. This occupies your ears and brain as you focus on both listening and processing what you hear, but it leaves your hands and eyes completely without anything to do. If you tried to sit down and just listen to a podcast by itself you’d probably get unbearably bored and stop doing it.
But if you pair that activity with something that uses your hands and eyes, like a craft, household chore, or commute, suddenly you’re fully plugged in and can in fact focus better on both tasks than you could if you tried doing them separately.
It’s also why you can’t listen to a podcast while doing homework; you’re trying to use your brain for two different tasks. To occupy your ears while doing homework (which is already using eyes, brain, and hands) you need something for your ears that doesn’t require your brain: music. Specifically music that doesn’t use too much brain power, which is why some people prefer instrumentals or songs in other languages.
Hyperfixation and sensory overload change this by moving the threshold for how much sensory input you need to be able to function. If I’m extremely focused on a craft project (eyes, hands, brain) I might not even need something for my ears; my interest in the project makes up for it. If i’ve had a very overwhelming day, trying to listen to an audiobook while I do some stretches could be too much to process. My brain needs a break.
Video games, which pretty much universally occupy all 4 areas, are basically instant, easy focus wrapped up in a neat little bow. No wonder adhd-havers tend to love them.
If you’re struggling with a task, try looking at which areas it occupies and which are left unattended. Then try to find something enjoyable to fill those gaps, and see if that helps.
if you’re white and wanna write a poc character and feel awkward about it i implore you to ignore any twitblr stuff treating it as a massive ethical burden and instead come in more with the same mindset you’d have if you wanted to write about idk firefighters but didn’t know anything about firefighters so you do... research. Like fuck off with the weird kinda creepy calls for spiritual introspection you’re not writing about god damn space aliens you’re writing about humans and if you think you need more perspective of different life experiences just read?
If I were writing about firefighters I'd also, in addition to just reading about them, take advantage of Our Blessed Internet to ask actual firefighters about how shit works. I'd do the same for a minority I'm not a part of.
I remember when there was this LiveJournal community where you could just ask about anything you needed for your novel - medicine, professions, vehicles, how things function in country X - and people who knew something about that would answer.
We need to bring this back.
And apparently just this summer they DID bring it back - it's called Little Details and it's on Dreamwidth!!!!
Remember, a world where everyone stays in their own boxes and only writes about their own narrow demographic is straight up a goal for racists. If you ever find yourself attempting anti-racism so hard you've looped back to "functionally the same thing racists want", stop, take stock, and ask yourself where things went wrong.
I want more people to know that while the Palestine Olympic team consists of only 8 athletes, at least 69 Palestinian Olympic athletes have been killed since October 2023. This includes athletes who were going to compete in these games and retired athletes such as Majed Abu Maraheel, the first Palestinian Olympian, who died of kidney failure in a refugee camp product of lack of medical treatment.
Remember them during these games.
