This phenomenon is documented in research into abortion attitudes among abortion patients: a subset believes that harsher abortion restrictions would be good because it would stop other, less “deserving” people from getting abortions - “but not me, of course!” 

Basically, people who think abortion should be illegal know that abortion is necessary and they just assume that it’s so obvious that they deserve to be special exceptions to abortion laws that they don’t think it will ever be a problem for them. 

I can’t remember every citation off the top of my head, but Thomas et al. (2017) is a good example of a quantitative study of this phenomenon. They found that anti-abortion patients were 5 times more likely to attempt an illegal DIY abortion at home: 

Women also stated a preference to have their abortion in the comfort of their own home, and viewed the at-home experience as easier than having a clinical procedure...Using products to induce abortion outside of a clinical setting could be particularly attractive for women with anti-legal attitude given the potential for experiencing cognitive dissonance between their beliefs and actions when seeking to terminate a pregnancy.

Nickerson et al. (2014): 

Participants used disparaging language to describe the presumed behavior of women faced with unintended pregnancies...Indeed, without prompting, women drew stark contrasts between the circumstances leading up to their own abortion and “other women’s” abortions.

Cockrill & Weitz (2010): 

In an interesting contrast with their claims that state-mandated information and waiting period requirements may assist with decision making, most women said they made their personal decision before they made an appointment at the clinic...In fact, responses to the question of whether a waiting period was a good law often included a caveat that while “for me” it was unnecessary, “other women” might benefit from the law... 

...Women in our study also expressed a concern that if abortion were too easily available then women would not take responsibility for the negative outcomes of their sexual and contraceptive behavior. Multiple abortions were a primary example of irresponsible behavior that might be prevented by regulation. Despite these opinions, several of the study participants were themselves obtaining a second abortion...

As someone who follows politics and analyzed policy, I’ve not seen someone who skillfully questions people quite like AOC. She is very adept at honing her questions to create a narrative that the lay person can digest and interpret on their own. This is why her lines of questioning are frequently newsworthy when much of congressional testimony never is seen by the public, because she’s able to elicit responses that make sense to people who don’t follow politics regularly. The right fears her because of how intelligent and skilled she is.

One of the biggest power moves I have here in the midwest when someone is being racist, sexist, homophobic is that I tell them that I’ll pray for them so that god can grace them with empathy, or that “I feel sorry the devil has made his home in your heart” cause you have not felt joy until you’ve flipped the script on a suburban house mom or an old racist white man.  The joy of watching their face in shock and confusion while they’re called out in Christian Standards the same way they try to cover for their homophobia is amazing.  100% suggest it, at the very least it gets them to shut the fuck up.

For those who didn’t know: that above is the nine-dash line, a controversial and wildly false statement by China, claiming that the Eastern Sea (which belongs to Vietnam alongside other SEAsian countries) was actually their territory according to some obscure history that only they seem to remember - I wonder why. The whole thing an entire mess and a half, but it did die down some time ago. I honestly didn’t expect to see it again, let alone be reminded of it in this seemingly lighthearted family movie of a WESTERN company.

A lot of Vietnamese people are calling to boycott Dreamworks and for this, I completely understand why. They should’ve known better, there’s no excuse to this.

Further context: China is trying to claim those waters because they contain lucrative oil deposits and they want to drill in Vietnam’s waters. In enforcing that false territory, they routinely bully fishing boats with fucking warships.

And remember how China'a been making concentration camps for Muslims? They’ve intentionally removed Mindanao, an island with a predominantly Muslim population, from the maps in the movie.

Please do not support this film in anyway. Filipinos are also boycotting it.
