Unfortunately, the game is not in a playable condition right now. Discovered some issues that cause crashing. Gonna try and fix it but we will see.
This is the compilation of the idle animation and both sides of the walking animation. I haven’t had much time this week to work on anything or post anything so I thought I would take a quick minute and post cleaner versions of these here. Also had some problems where Tumblr likes to default to my other account even though I don’t post on it. Enjoy!
Spent some time working on the left walk side of the walking animations. Feels pretty good and was able to use the right side to make it 100 times faster. Efficiency baby!!!
Got around to finishing the walk cycle for when the character is facing right. Hopefully I can recycle this for the left side with some editing and cross this off my list of animation that I need to do for the character. Was fun so far! =)
Did the basic 4 frames for the idle animation. Need to make it feel more subtle but it looks pretty nice so far. Probably will add 4 more frames to space it out and make it feel better as well as finishing the opposite side of the character. And yes that is a pistol on his side =D

A very basic build to just test out playing mechanics. Need to fix about a million and one things but this is what I have for now so enjoy!
Started posting my stuff on my portfolio in order to hopefully try and get a job with a real game design company. This is the title screen I threw together as a thumbnail for my GDD and executable. I will also be posting the executable here if anyone wants to play it.
Rough idea for the first boss of the game. The whole thing revolves around the idea of plants that have taken over animals so I based this off of the white clover flower (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trifolium_repens) and a generic lion who the other plant-animals are scared of when first appearing.
Some character conceptualization from my current project. Definitely going to adjust the size that I use for the character as this is 32 x 32 for each different image, as well as changing the design for his left arm to be more clearly visible towards the player. Animating may help make that more clear though so we will see.
The current state of the game I am working on as a solo designer. Tentatively called “Stranded” it will be a metroidvania esque title that has the player crash land on an alien planet that consists mostly of vegetation and plants where there are the ruins of the last remaining human base. Excited to work on it but because I am not that great of a coder I have a lot to learn.
I finally got the player character to have a jump based on the duration of the jump button rather than a straight, vertical amount upwards. Took me a couple hours but it really is surprising how such a simple mechanic can take so much thought and a bit of effort. :)
Originally I had a build prototype that I was testing out in GameMaker Studio 2 where the double jump function as a set amount of distance jumped on each button press. Currently making an attempt to have it so that the jump is pressure based but GML is not my forte. Will keep update soon, also want to fix an issue where if you melee attack and turn around quickly the melee will turn around as well. Also planning to add a hitstop on melee hits so that the player can feel the impact when in combat.
Quick general concept of the first controllable area or a very early controllable area. Hoping to introduce basic movement such as jumping, platforms, hazards, and traversable areas being less than obvious (top left). The player will be chased through this area forcing the player to think quickly. Any thoughts?
