Hello and welcome! The last time I was on Tumblr pinned posts weren't a thing, but now that they are it seems like I ought to make one.

As a note: my account is currently shadowbanned! I'm working to get this fixed but unfortunately it means my ability to interact is limited.

I've started making CC and due to The Shadowbanning I'm posting it over on a sideblog, @possumcc !

I have played the Sims since all the way back when Sims 1 first came out, and I've loved it my whole life. Now in Sims 4 I primarily do long-form legacy play, but I recently (re)discovered sims storytelling and got an idea for a whole plot and now I'm in deep enough to be learning how to pose in Blender. Oops!

My main story is Strangerer! which is intended to blend B-Movie horror-comedy with slightly more grounded interpersonal drama. It loosely follows the plot of the Strangerville pack, but I'm hoping to add a lot more meat to those bleached desert bones. Rating-wise I am aiming for PG-13. Topics that come up will likely include frank discussion of death, missing persons/loss of a loved one, anti-government sentiment, poverty and the disenfranchisement of rural communities, and queer identity. I plan to keep things tonally lighter (or at the very least, darkly comedic) but if that's not your cup of tea, Strangerer! might not be the story for you.

Right now all that exists is the prologue (which I already want to redo) and a lot of posts of me rambling about my process. My goal is to finish several parts before I begin posting so I have a buffer and a better idea of how I want to tell the story!

It has been so long since I posted any wip! This is the hair i was working on for Halloween (along with other stuff). It was supposed to be a test for a blender add-on I got, but it turned out to look so good I really want to give it to you guys. I regret not updating blender earlier or looking for add-ons, this one really does make it much easier to create hairs! It's not free, unfortunately 😖 but it was worth it for me, it will make the hair making process much easier (and fun!) than what it was! To me, the best part is that I finished meshing the curves and solidified them as meshes and when i went to check the poly count it was 10k. FOR THE ENTIRE HAIR. COME ON.

This add-on is magical and i can prove it since I'm staring at sims4studio now with THAT hair (in the post above) imported with the hat chops and it's at 10k vertices and 14k polys and i didn't make a singular effort to reduce it yet. And if you work with hairs you know how this sounds like sorcery.

ANYWAY I have stuff to say. This add-on creates a thing in your mesh called COLOR ATTRIBUTES. I don't know exactly what they're for (because my blender knowledge is restricted to making cool crystals and custom content for the sims 4) but SIMS4STUDIO CANNOT READ THEM. FOR LIFE. They will cause various errors that will make you spiral forever because they're extremely UNCLEAR. I found them by accident so, if you bought the add-on and is now making beautiful hairstyles and struggling to make them to sims4studio, here is the culprit:

Located in: DATA. Delete every other color attribute besides "color0" and your hair will import to s4s normally!

I dont understand this community what do they even want ??

you get annoyed when people post "too much"* and dont support them because it clutters your dash but you get annoyed when people post "too little"* and you ignore them because you need constant posts from them to realize they exsist

You get annoyed when someone wants alittle more visibility and reach for thier art than likes because for some reason you feel personally pressured even though no one even spoke to you and you get annoyed when someones art doesn't reach you specifically because how dare people not cater to you specifically and labour to get what you like to you without any effort on your part

You take it personally when someone reblogs thier own stuff on their blog for different timezones and think its attention seeking behavior thats meant to make you specifically feel guilty

If anyone even express how sad they are there isnt much interaction on thier stuff from the general public you take it personally and act like its directed at you specifically, like someone is putting you on trial with their very general post

But when someone doesnt say anything at all and doesnt interact with you specifically you get mad and feel alienation

WHAT DO YOU WANT?? whats the end goal here if no one posts their stuff more than once and no one reblogs anything at all and no one talks or interacts fearing pissing you off what then? Do you want to be locked in a vacuum chamber and just stop being aware that other people exsist just content to look at? Delete your blog and go scroll Instagram instead then what the actual fuck??

Stop treating everything and everyone like its made to cater to you specifically everyone has thier own space on the internet and are allowed to set expectations within it we dont all exsist to entertain you specifically stop policing people's expectations and blogs let people live goddammit what the hell???

I take no issue with monetizing cc. You release good content and have an agreeable release window, I either choose to subscribe, or I wait. Cool. What I do take issue with is this

Perma-paywalls or ridiculous early access release windows. Anything exceeding thirty days is excessive. My opinion.

2. New creators setting up immediate early access. The skillset is just not there yet to put a price on your creations. You barely have a base to sell to. This includes creators who created for other games, then come over to The Sims and try to sell to us. For example, the creator that makes skins and admitted they don't even play the game. Simply here for profit.

3. Creators that do not qc their work, or steal from other creators. Girl.

4. Customer service. Once you start creating for profit, whether it be supplemental or your main source, you have to have a level of customer service and professionalism. You have now started a brand. A very niche brand, but that's what it is. You cannot be short with people for asking valid questions and catching an attitude with them. Like that one lady with the tree coming out in February. If you are one of those rare creators who is lucky enough money to hire someone to handle your social media, I suggest you do that. Or supply a friend with more patience with their favorite coffee or something and let them handle it. Something.

5. Not interacting with the community you are trying to sell to. Connect with people. Repost their edits, lookbooks, builds, leave comments, give a like. The creator mentioned above commented that no one comments on their stuff, at least not here. Fair. This community does not talk like it used to, but to each other like it used to, but you can go to creator pages and see that they are perfectly curated advertisements. Like a showroom. No reblogs of anyone using their content. If you want that for your main page fine, but at least have another side blog where you can do the outlined above.

6. Pushing something out just to push it. I think we have entered a space, both creator and follower/consumer, where everything feels so fast-paced. What's the new thing coming out, what's next, etc. So much so that I think it has made creators push out content just to keep up, especially if they rely on that income. This has resulted in some creators getting into hot water for releasing the same item(s) in different sets and in different colors. Or creators releasing duplicates of the same thing. It can be frustrating, but I question if it is because they're just trying to keep up, or afraid to try something new or different in fear of it not doing well. Some smaller creators who create different content don't get as much love and I question if they would receive more if they followed the wave, or were big enough to start one.

Now to this community

If a creator disrespects you or others or moves in a way that you don't fundamentally agree with, and you complain but still download and or advertise their content, you're moving counterproductive to your plight. Why would anyone reflect on themselves when you prove that you're going to advertise their content anyway?

2. Show love to these creators. Big and small, especially small, monetized or not. Everyone likes to hear or see that what they release is valued. Don't harass or disrespect creators if they take a break, or they don't get something out quickly. Especially the modders.

3. Interact with each other. Even if your aesthetics or different. This is a community. If you see something you like, LIKE IT. Share it, leave a comment.

4. Create the thing simmer. The edit, cc, build, lookbook, whatever. Create the thing and share the thing. Even if it isn't part of a popular trend or aesthetic.

I'm speaking about myself here too because I want to better about this.

I want this to feel fun again. Not just based on what is in at the moment.
