Wait, y'all aren't defining an algebraic structure on your friends?

what even is a group. i dont know man. its a thing. and theres things in it. dont ask me. just let me get that crisp passing grade. god.
The things in the group act on eachother as symmetry operations.
The symmetry group of the things in that group is a group.
I’m bored so I’m going to show everyone the topological dog again
Spherical dog/Hairy Ball with a face has a reflection plane going along where its hair is parting, and cutting through its lil piggy nose.
Its point group is Cs
zere are abelian groups???? zats so many groups
densest packing of 17 squares waffle has no plane symmetry.
Its point group is {1}
[Warning: probably some poor math. If you are proficient at math, feel free to share your thoughts and any corrections/adjustments that might need to be made]
Alright, let me get this straight: so 1/0 IS an actual number with an actual value. It has to be, otherwise straight vertical lines don't exist. But it is also undefined
The reason why it is undefined is because as n→0+, 1/n= ∞. [1/1=1, 1/(1/2)=2, 1/(1/10)=10, etc...]
HOWEVER, as n→0–, 1/n= –∞. [1/(–1)=–1, 1/(–1/2)=-2, 1/(–1/10)=–10, etc...]
Therefore, as n→0, 1/n= both ∞ and (–∞). So does that mean 1/0 is simultaneously –∞ AND +∞, and not either-or like you would see when f(a)=f(–a)=0?
I don't even know how that would look, physically and mathematically
But if that is the case and we denote ± as being plus AND minus, rather than plus OR minus, it would mean that 0×(±∞)=1, as well as 1/(±∞)=0
[Side tangent: How would 0×(±∞) even look as repeated addition? Coz that's what multiplication is. Maybe 0±0±...±0? Or perhaps ±1(0+0+...+0)? Same thing actually, but it still makes no sense. How can you add and subtract something at the same time and still change its value?]
Which again, I don't understand, but it does explain why 1/0 is undefined, because it has two simultaneous values (which, from my understanding, only exist as concepts and not actual values) despite it being a constant
Have I got all of this right?
And why can't we just allow the existence of constants with simultaneous values in mathematics? Could certainly help in defining 1/0. But then, what else would it apply to? And its not like we constantly came across it like with √–1. 1/0 is just weird
[I also want to point out that if 1/(±∞)=0, does 0 actually have no value?]
Did some more thinking
1/0 is both positive and negative ∞, simultaneously, would that mean ∞=(–∞)?
And also typically 0<(1/n)<1, if n>1. And since ∞>1>0, then shouldn't 0<(1/∞)<1? Rather than 0=1/∞?
Unless it's more an element of being +∞ AND –∞, and you can't just write one or the other
So if:
0<(1/n)<1, when n>1,
(1/n)>1, when 0
–1<(1/n)<0, when n<(–1),
(1/n) < (–1), when -1
Then since –∞<0<∞, I need to prove 1/±∞=0
n=∞>1, 0<(1/∞)<1
n=(–∞)<(–1), –1<(1/–∞)<0
n=±∞, 1/(±∞)∈(–1,0)U(0,1)
→ 1/(±∞)∈(–1,1)\{0},
but we also know 1/(±∞)∈(–1/(10^k), 1/(10^k)\{0}, and as k→∞, 1/(±∞)→0
So then 1/(±∞)∈(0)
which ig would mean that 1/(±∞) is so infinitesimally close to 0 that 1/(±∞)≈0
Or, I suppose it might be like 0.999… where it DOES equal 1, but in a weird "bc it goes on forever, it's essentially 1" kinda way. In which case 0.999...∈(1), right? Because it doesn't equal 1 exactly, and yet it practically is 1
And so therefore, 1/(±∞)=0
Am I even doing this right???
... This means that 1/(±∞) only sort of equals 0, but it would still have to have some value so that when multiplied by infinity it equals 1
Like if you were to take a cake and cut it into infinite pieces, the size of each slice would have to be so small it's practically nothing, yet if you put them all together, you get a whole cake
I assume 1/(±∞) = ±0.00…01, because it has to be as close to 0 as possible. Otherwise 0 would have a value. So it's essentially 0, but it's kinda not
TL;DR: in my arrogance I tried to define 1/0 and ended up somehow proving that 0 is just a really small number
Was it fun? Absolutely
Was I right about anything? Probably not. The only way it can work is if it works like 0.99… where, since it goes on forever, it's essentially just 1.
However, silver lining: it would mean that –0 does exist as more than just a floating point, and I can get behind that
Hi, I studied Physics and some Maths. i think this is a lovely post with some great ideas mixed with complete horseshit, that is somehow triggered by the unhinged premise that "you can't divide by zero implies vertical lines don't exist".
But there's a great point to be made about the fact that both 1/0 should be ±infinity. this is of course not a #real number but we can just define any number divided by zero to be some symbol. and then it is somehow natural to glue it to both open ends of the real number line like this:

Interesting math fact of the day #386:
There is a real number A such that floor(A^(3^n)) is prime for all positive integers n.

This is my album of the year. We are six months in, and I can't think of a single release that could top this. Call me close minded, I don't care.
I was pretty steadfast about keeping Whole Lotta Red as the best rage album ever in my own mind, but enough time has passed that the fundamentals of the subgenre have shifted, if only slightly. WLR will always stay in high regard to me as fantastic in its own right as well as the originator of rage music; the 808s of a new age. That said, this is an absolute peak of rage, a high watermark that will rarely be met in the future
UNMUSIQUE is a beautiful dichotomy; the violent clash of gorgeous glitz with thundering beats paralleling a divide between hurt and hedonism, everything fueling each other into this hyper saturated inferno of sound and feeling.
This tape is more evocative than I've ever heard rage music be, and every bit as hard hitting and addictive. The best moments on this album reach a level of singularity and perfection that I genuinely cannot compare to anything else in this vein of music.
The melodic chants threading themselves into the beat of 2010 JUSTIN BIEBER
Lucy's twangy snarl backed by the guitar riffs in SMACKDOWN
The impassioned screams on the second drop on FENTY FACE, paired with a beat so rapid and overwhelming that I feel like I'm whizzing through the iciness of the cosmos at the speed of light
The sweetness and the melancholy of the refrain on TOUT NATUREL contrasting the power of the bass
The sour, skull crushing rage laced into OUJIA
The mournful cries of CARA MIA, the despair of wondering if you meant anything to someone
The key change on IGNORANT
These are moments that so welcomely remind me why I love music. These moments breathe life into my passion for my own art.
I am unable to put this project down. It is so utterly addictive and I'm just relishing in my dependence on these 40 minutes of music.
Lucy if somehow you find this, thank you. Thank you for all your art, ESPECIALLY this. You are a talent a treasure and an inspiration, I cannot wait to see what's next.
9/10.
the album cover has a 2-fold rotation axis in the middle of the basketball 🏀
Its point group is C2
I hate when math questions ask you shit like "Peter wants to paint the fucking tetrahedron for $3.4/m²" LIKE NO PETER. SHUT THE FUCK UP. I WILL KILL YOU IN COLD BLOOD.
Peter's tetrahedron has 3-fold rotation axes going through each of its vertices and opposing face and 2-fold rotation axes through opposing edges. However its reflection symmetry was broken by the paint and the peculiar way in which Peter's blood stained the corners.
Its point group is the chiral tetrahedral group T
(which is isomorphic to A4)
why do they call it group chat??
it is clear that there is no identity
group fish has a reflection plane going along its length containing the dorsal and caudal fins!
Its symmetry group is Cs
whatever tf this is has a 15-fold rotation axis through the middle.
Its point group is C15 the cyclic group of order 15 which is the only group of that size.
when will my thesis defend me
the relationship between your thesis and your self is fully asymmetric.
Its symmetry group is {1}
The best part about math trending it’s that there aren’t even that many memes. People are just excited about math here.
Anyway here’s a meme
The infinityhedron has infinitely many ∞-fold rotation axes and reflection planes going through its center, where there is also a point of inversion!
Its point group is the orthogonal group O(3)
