not everything in a story has to or should be "realistic" but in my opinion there's a level of illusion that should be maintained, and I think that's the actual problem that many people try to pinpoint with the "unrealistic" criticism. Dialogue shouldn't be written like an actual transcript of human speech, but should contribute to the illusion of a real person speaking. A character is a tool of the story, not a narrative, but we're trying to maintain the illusion that they are a person. Worldbuilding should exist to serve the story, not to be a perfect simulacrum of how every aspect of nature/society etc. would actually play out for real. But there should be the illusion that it could be real, that organizations and systems would operate in such a way, that people might behave in such a way.
in conclusion: "Is this realistic?" <<wrong question. "Does this serve the illusion or disrupt it?" <<now we're talking

and frankly? some of you struggle with hairy men.
this is like a group chat
[IDs: Screenshots of a show with text that appears to be subtitles. The conversation read like this (characters are distinguished by number for ease of reading):
ā 1: Okay, okay. So say I put my brain in a robot body.
1 Cont: And thereās a war. Robots versus humans.
1 Cont: What side am I on?
2: Humans. You have a human brain.
3: But, the humans discriminate against you.
3 Cont: You canāt even vote.
4: Yeah, but⦠nobody knows youāre a robot.
5: You look the same.
2: But dogs know. Thatās how the humans hunt you.
1: Theyāre gonna hunt me for sport?ā
The important thing about continents is first that the idea was invented with Europe in mind and second that it does not work for Europe
So the English word continent used to just mean a big landmass. Being a language from a small place, one of these continents was the Isle of Man.
Then we applied it to the "three" "parts" of the "world" (Europe, Asia and Africa).
Then upon discovering there were more than three bits a Science was airdropped in, so that it was now a large distinct contiguous landmass, a definition which worked perfectly for approximately one Australia, having found to their horror that it turned out Europe, Asia and Africa were connected.
So then geologists discovered continental plates, finally allowing them to explain how Africa was actually separate from Asia, and how Europe was... still just a bit of Eurasia with delusions of grandeur.
I really hate it when parents of autistic kids use phrases like āI know theyāre in there.ā Bitch theyāre right in front of you! You havenāt lost them! Theyāre not locked away like a final boss in a video game!! This is your child As Is! Love them for who they are not what you wish they would be! Fuck!
nobody talks about how exhausting it is to live in that space between "things will get better" and "i can't handle this anymore." it's like your emotions are constantly swinging. leaving you both hopeful and defeated in the same day.
you should get a second evening for reading fan fiction. And you should get an extra day in the week to do arts and crafts.
why donāt you go write about those two guys jacking each other off and then maybe youāll calm down
How about you don't harass Jewish queer people who hold a pride flag with Magen David on it instead of squinting at the design in order to decide whether it's okay to do hate crime or not?
probably gonna go through some weird and unknown phase of my life soon
never met a sentence i couldn't make incredibly long
Throughout my life, in the 30 years Iāve lived on this blue marble, desperately clinging onto this hurling comet of water and air, Iāve never encountered, never in my entire existence, a sentence - or sentence structure, that I couldnāt make incredibly long, words stretched like they were salt-water taffy on a hot summers day, endlessly twisting and contorting in the shop window of life, single letters finding themselves adopted into a family of like-minded syllables, drawn out longer than a tapestry still on the loom, if I were to stop talking, if this narrative ends, youāll leave and Iāll be alone again, so I canāt stop, I have to fill the silence, the void with something - anything, to ensure you grant me the mercy of your company on this bus stop between destinations, so I have to make it long, make a mountain out of a molehill, form a ruckus from a rasp, a memory with just a moment, it has to be as long as it can, or Iāll think Iāll have failed, what are words if we donāt use them, what is silence if not to be broken, what is a blank page if not a canvas, a sentence, if not a long one?
