I've always felt the pressure to live up to society's expectations of success. Growing up, I was taught that I needed to work hard to achieve a high-paying job, buy a big house, a fancy car, etc. to be considered successful. I was made to believe that if I didn't achieve these things, I would be seen as a failure. This pressure to conform to societal expectations led me to feel overwhelmed and inadequate and also led me to self-doubt. However, I've come to realize that maybe what I truly want is something simple—a simple life, where I can be content with what I have and not feel the need to constantly achieve something big.
As I've grown older, I've realized that society’s definition of success isn't accurate for me. While I do value financial stability, I don't feel the need to constantly strive for more. I often find myself feeling content with what I have and the life that I live. Back then, I believed it was wrong to feel satisfied when I achieved less than those around me. However, I enjoy living this way. I am content with my current situation. This does not mean that I am not interested in pursuing my passions, but rather that I am happy to do so without the added stress of constantly striving for more.
In a society that values constant growth and achievement, it can be hard to embrace contentment. But I believe that cultivating contentment can lead to a more fulfilling life, one where we find joy in the present and appreciate the journey we're on.
